If he's a lefty who can throw mid 80s he will get looks, he will get more looks if he goes after them.

Thanks!  Hope you're right.  Trying to figure all that out right now, and encouraging him to do it on his own.  I've always pushed him to do things himself.  So, it'll be up to him on how hard he wants to pursue this thing.

Unlikely, a rising senior in late July isn't getting looks at this point if coaches are not currently reaching out. If it doesn't happen the summer before their senior year it probably isn't happening.

A baseball game was violently interrupted when stray gunfire struck a coach, Texas officials say.

It happened the morning of Sunday, Sept. 21, at a baseball facility in Katy, according to a Facebook post from Waller County Emergency Medical Services.

A stray bullet hit the coach in the shoulder during a game at TheRac Baseball, EMS officials said, adding that “crews provided immediate care, and he was transported downtown by LifeFlight in stable condition.”

Video from the facility shows a helicopter lifting off from the outfield of a baseball diamond.

The bullet came from one or more individuals doing some “recreational shooting” on a nearby property, according to a statement by TheRac, saying local police were “immediately notified of the possible illegal hunting and responded to the scene.”

While police were responding, the coach was shot, according to facility staff.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family as he receives treatment for his injuries,” the statement read.

“The police have since apprehended the individuals in question,” it continued. “We are taking every step possible to ensure this does not happen again on our property.”

Here’s a new one for you all. Our coach was shot at the Rac in Katy this weekend.

The amount of gunfire I hear while at these ball fields each weekend is crazy. Down in Zorn there is always a neighbor shooting. Taylor a few weeks ago there were dove hunters shooting. Blackstar in Kyle and Westinghouse we have heard shooting almost every time. The most insane I have ever experienced was a tournament this last July 4th that we were moved to Prospect Hill in SA. The amount of gunfire made it feel like a war zone. 100's of shots mixed in with the fireworks. It is a miracle everyone made it out alive.

I didn't hear any shots on Saturday at the Rac but someone said its pretty common. The team was in a pregame prayer circle on the first base line when the coach was shot. That bullet whizzed in a few feet from ten kids, including mine. My wife hates guns and is fuming.

Someone tell me if I’m the asshole here…

Fall ball, rec league 9u game tonight. Umpire tells us before the game it’s drop dead at 1.5 hours. We are visitors. We are up 3 runs at the 1.5 hour mark while the home team is hitting. Umpire says last batter, kid strikes out. Ball game, kids lineup and shake hands. Other coach complains. Has the ump call the director of umpires. So kids are standing around for 10 mins while this happens. Ump gets off the phone, tell us we will finish the home team half inning. Our kids walks in 4 runs. They win.

I don’t give shit about winning, these kids all suck and are there to have fun and learn baseball. I give a shit about this whole process and keeping these 9 and 8 year old out 40 mins past the supposed end time, while also now teaching them that complaining gets you what you want.

I told the other coach a few times that he was a clown which he didn’t like too much. This is also the coach that sends his kids straight to 2nd on walks because these kids can’t make those plays.

I'm sure all the college and MLB scouts that were there furiously took note of the outcome

You're fine, best to just let it go.

Just felt bad for the kiddos who thought they won and were excited about it.
The message I left them with was control what you can control, don’t leave the result up to the umpire, don’t let winning/losing affect your enjoyment of playing the game.

It's a good message.  My son, who played, is off at college.  His HS team lost game 3 in a 6A Regional Final this past May, thus ending his baseball journey, on the same day he graduated from HS.

We were briefly talking about baseball down at the Sam Houston game, and after over a decade of it and so many practices and games of all things, he brought up this moment right here from when he was younger and after a hot ass early July game, a mom had brought snowballs, and their coach let them all have fun throwing them at him.

Keep their heads on straight.  Shit's supposed to be fun.

Usually if it’s a drop dead stop time mid-inning and the home team is losing, you revert to the score before the last inning started. It would be weird to give the visitors an extra at-bat then call ball game.

We were winning then too. But that’s not really my point

The other coach cares way too much about fall ball 9u, not that you shouldn't give a shit but there's a time and place for it. 9u is certainly not the time.

We're approaching mutiny on our 7u fall rec ball team. It seems the head coach thinks (starting before the first game) the only way we can win the final championship game (assuming we make it) is a strategy of leaning on 3 kids, one of which is his son who he plays at SS. He scolds the other 9 players for making the correct baseball play, like throwing the ball in front of the lead runner, or 3B throwing to 2B for a force out, because "they are too risky for 6 and 7 year olds" and insists that if any other player fields a ball, they must throw it to one of the 3 "good" players no matter the situation or where those players are in the field. In practices, he assigned kids to a permanent "A", "B", and "C" group that run different drills based on how he wants to play in the game. The irony is that we could beat the top two teams by season's end if most of the roster got development and were allowed to attempt the correct plays, make mistakes, and improve. It sucks when you're 3 or 4 games into a season and you already have to write it off because most of the kids (including mine) aren't getting the right reps in practice and are being instructed to make incorrect plays in games. Now that my older son and his friends moved to select, I'm going to have to come out of retirement to coach the younger crew.
