USA 🇺🇸 men picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

Tiafoe won three times as many games as Paul, and still lost in fewer than 5 sets.

Ouch!!

Tommy!! WTF happened?!?!

I watched the Andreeva vs Boisson match last night.  Andreeva had her chances but the crowd got to her big time.  She was up 5-3 in the first set and 3-0 in the second (lost 6 games in a row to close out the match).  The crowd was somewhat neutral or slightly biased at the beginning of the match.  By the end, it was a Davis Cup type match.  Andreeva showed she is still a teenager.  At one point she blasted a ball into the stands.  I can't imagine what it is like to miss a critical shot badly and have 15,000 people erupt in applause.  The umpire couldn't do anything.  I'm not sure what "Merci" means in French but I think it is "Yell when the opponent is about to serve".  At one point in the second set the announcer (not Chris Evert) asks Sloane Stevens if the crowd is pretty neutral.  Sloane politely said "No".  I was thinking what match are you watching.  Gauff better jump on Boisson and take the crowd out of it.   Every game Boisson won in the second set, the crowd got more into it and more rowdy.

Zverev is still chasing down drop shots in his sleep.  Novak hit 35 of them.  I never saw Zverev adjust to it.  The longer the match went the better Novak played and the more tentative Zverev played.

I expect Coco and Aryna to be playing in the final.  If it is Iga and Lois, Iga will need her psychologist.

Just got back from 8 days at the FO. Saw Andreeva, Rublev, Rune, Musetti, Schnieder, Alexandrova, Vondersova, Kudermentova, Greekspoor, Baptiste, Ostepenko and Ethan Quinn. (Not spelling all that mess correctly).

Thoughts:

1. No booze on the court at RG is brutal. My daughter and I were chugging Stella between sets. Fucking degenerates.)

2. the Women are so much more powerful than I thought, or even then they were 5 years ago at the US open, the last time I went to a major. They are very big and powerful. Massive legs.

3. Sat right behind Andreeva, and the signature lice are awful. Halfway through the end of what may or may not be the final set, the 8-14 year old kids (and some adults) start flooding the forward seats with balls and paraphernalia in hops of a signature. It sucks. They worm into every available free space. Makes for an awful 30-45 minutes

3. Musetti is the most graceful player I've seen live (never say Federer play live). He glides. He's also the real deal. The one-handed back-hand is almost discordant to see live.

4. French open only having one mens match for night session is bullshit. If you ever go to the french open, buy day sessions. Much better bang for your buck.

5. Do NOT got to the french open when PSG wins the Champions League and the entire town riots. We had a couple sketchy nights getting home from the stadium, and getting TO the stadium once we saw roving gangs evading hordes of French motorcycle benny-hilling across the highway. Daytime fires/looting. It was a trip.

6. In general, the crowds, the sponsors and the organizers were top notch and very friendly.

And Coco squashed the Frenchie, never to be heard from again.

Coco made her look like a junior. But I bet she's heard from again. she was injured, and 800k buys a lot of coaching and phisio work.

Damn, didn't know you couldn't booze in-stadium. That sucks.

New rule. Much sadness. Just makes the lines to get back into the stadium at changeovers and set breaks ridiculous. Doesn't stop buffoonery, or drinking.

Wait they were making a big deal about their cocktails...?

I have been to the U.S. Open 3 or 4 times and I’m not sure whether I have had an alcoholic beverage there yet.

I don’t tend to drink much if I want to remember what I’m watching. (Drinking more than one drink at concerts went away as I moved into my 30s.)

Sad to see Paris having issues. I should be there for about a week in July.

I would like to go to the French Open sometIme over the next 5 years.

Musetti looked good and then looked like he may have gotten the shits or something. Don’t watch sets 3 & 4, but holy 💩!! Must have gotten hurt. Don’t know.

Novak isn’t dead yet.
He’s not nailing his drop shots and he still looks formidable.

ALSO…

Anytime Novak gets a little momentum or break or anything, Sinner comes right back. No soul searching, no wound licking. Novak gave it all in the 2nd and Sinner had answers. See how it goes from here.

They can be going back and forth and then Sinner gets a forehand from his right corner and he cranks up the mph about 10mph or more and then Novak is just trying to return a bullet rather than try to do damage and then Sinner crushes a winner.

It resembles Chinese ping pong 🏓 Olympians. They are knocking it back and forth and then they unleash thunderbolts from the gods.

Read the thread, Vic.

My point was the FO made a big deal this year to push their signature cocktails but then turned around and barred them from the stadium which works against that.

Sinner is crushing him.  this is over in 3.  wonder if Sinner is juicing again.

Speaking of juicing, Iga hasn’t made a final since she got popped.

Don’t know whether she knew that she was juicing or if it was her team, but I could see her not feeling quite as strong and/or not having quite the endurance as she did in the past and psychologically, she can’t replicate those results.

Also, Coco getting to Sabalenka shots that would have been winners against every other girl on tour really fucked with Sabalenka’s head. She felt like she had to make the perfect shot point after point when Coco would extend a rally another 1 to 8 shots due to a combination of:

Coco’s speed + the clay + the swirling wind requiring Sabalenka to hit shots with greater margins for error.

I think that Sabalenka wins in straight sets if the roof is closed or if they are on a different surface… but that’s not the way things played out.
