I know there are still offensive line concerns, but I feel a hell of lot better about our RB room right now than I did back in August, our WR room is better, and I think second-half-of-2025 Arch is his floor for next season.

It always bugged me that Sonny Crockett was an All-American football player at Florida, and then became an undercover vice cop in Miami. Like if Colt McCoy had left school and became an undercover cop

The portal is still open and there are hundreds of players that will still enter it. This not over yet.

Last year we needed a better left guard, center, and right guard. DJ Campbell was strong enough and mauled people in a gap blocking scheme at right guard but has struggled his whole career diagnosing his responsibilities in a zone blocking scheme. LG and C has been an issue in the running game that was never addressed dating back to Bijan. Thats why we could never run inside zone because we weren't strong enough to let go of our combo blocks and climb to the second level.

So going into the portal opening we already needed 3. Then more linemen left so you needed 6 just to get back the depth you lost. Of those 6, 3 needed to be better than what you had last year, and the other 3 needed to be of equal ability to what you lost as backups.

We aren't getting 6 or 7 quality linemen from the portal. We just aren't. Not the way Flood assesses linemen, disqualifying them immediately if they don't fit a size amd weight goal regardless of performance.

I don't really care where they come from, but I got a chuckle out of picking up a couple of top players out of Alabama (or that were headed to Alabama). This year is looking pretty damn good.

News Flash

No team in the country is getting 6 or 7 “quality” o-lineman in the portal.

Yeah, but we suck so we're REALLY not getting 6 or 7 quality O-linemen.

We're just asking for one, maybe two.

The fan dream of having maulers inside is dead. Sark and Flood are going to prioritize quick feet and pass pro over drive blocking. That does fit well with outside zone. 2024 OL is probably peak Flood. You are going to get Majors and Conner and like it. I am to the point that I wish Texas would cut the run game down and specialize in outside zone. Run a lot of OZ with QB boot with Arch. Minor in couple other runs (Counter/Duo), but dont run 10 concepts. Let's not do the camp and early season flirtation with gap schemes this year.

Look guys. I get it. Y'all are all excited about the skill players. We all are. I just want to remind you that we had a great season in 2024. Made it to the SECCG in year 1 and to the semis in the CFP.

That said, we rushed for 29 yards and lost to Georgia at home. We rushed for 31 yards and lost to Georgia in the SECCG. We rushed for 58 yards and lost to Ohio State in the semis, with the game ending when one of our linemen, notorious for whiffing on pass protection, whiffed on pass protection causing a strip sack for a TD. Michigan had just rushed for 172 yards on Ohio State. Had we been able to do that, we win that game. We only rushed for 53 on Arizona State but Quinn saved us with 322 and 3 TDs.

A quality offensive line is a must to win a championship. You cannot 1 dimensional your way to a title. You saw that this year as our O-line caused 2 of our 3 losses.

We don't need drive blockers. Our feet weren't quick in 2024, that's why we couldn't run on Georgia, Ohio State, and ASU. Inadequate line play is why we lost to Georgia twice and got bounced in the playoffs in 24.

This is magnified by the fact that Sark likes to "scheme" his receivers open. None of that matters if the pocket collapses before the receivers get open. The 2023 line kept Quinn clean. 2024, they regressed. 2025 was a disaster, especially with Banks gone.

Tell us again. I don't think anyone quite got it yet.

Then stop making dumb ass comments on the internet if you get it.

Feet were pretty good in 2024, I think the draft supports that view. Kirby abused Flood's slide protections, more so than the players. That has been beaten to death and probably unproductive to drag that up again. Flood did cut those back as 2025 season progressed, so he is learning. In general, the way to beat a Saban/Kirby defense has generally been on 1 on 1s on the outside. You do that and they have to move parts around and it opens the run game up. Rarely do you see a run game break that defense (maybe OSU NC team is one of the only examples I can remember). They pack the middle of the field. Its a solid strategy. Not a lot of teams have the talent outside and QB to hit those sideline shots. Mobile QB helps. I think Sark had Georgia on the mind when he was pursuing Cam.

Clark waited his turn and had a great bowl game. It takes a RB a while to get warmed up in a game, and a few games with playing time to get broken in. I think this is one they may regret letting go. I don't know if the sophmores and incoming freshmen are getting paid anything, but I would have let them go and kept CC. I don't know what more you could have asked from him.

Cooper is the #1 running back recruit and a couple of years younger than Brown and Smothers. Much better fit. Clark was 4th string, had one good game and decided to hold us hostage. He can get fucked. You think guys like Wisner, Baxter, and Barnes actually made more money leaving? Loyalty is a two way street.

If he was holding us hostage, then fuck him. He may have just wanted to get something on film before he graduated. All these guys think they are going to the NFL

Have he and Nicole ever been seen in the same room? 🤣

"Holding us hostage" is the new narrative for anyone that asks for money, doesn't get it then goes to the portal. Because nobody on Surly has left one job for another because the work conditions and pay were better. There are some jerk moves players can make (we had 3 this year and going to OU or aggie will always be a jackass move) but hating on a player for simply wanting more PT and money is silly.

Why does it take a RB “ a while to get warmed up in a game”? Why a few games to get broken in?
