when i am reading a thread i want the maximum real estate utilization side-to-side which enables faster consumption with less paging/scrolling

a thread needs to render side-to-side like this:

image.thumb.png.4dea9903bc38274f64becf4161914691.png

on the new site 20% of the frame (on the right) is not content) and the default sizing in essence doubles the amount of paging/scrolling

if we have to have blank space (obviously for future ads) it needs to be configurable for either the left or right side

thank you sir for the work you have done to keep this community alive

I'll need to figure that one out.

HOLY SHIT GUYS

I see that posts currently made on the test site arent showing up on the live site. I'm guessing you don't have them syncing while you're fixing shit. Will those be synced at a later date, or are those posts just gonna be lost in the void.

they will never sync - the test site is a totally different backend. The reason it messed with subscriptions is it made calls to the live paypal api instead of the test one.

Sorted by Recently updated, Cowboys thread about #20, updated last Mon, not two minutes ago during Cowboy game. Didn't see a better sort option (didn't look too hard)

yeah, it's not live data - Don't use the site except to check it out lol. It's from 3 days ago and won't update with latest posts.

Same. It’s the primary way I use the site

Did you see post? Fluid in settings (way I browse as well) is working 100% the same as it was on the main site. Big Win.

Seems completely useable in the 10 mins I spent fucking around. The only "nice to have" feature I didn't find would be keeping the post numbering feature, which can be useful for referring to other posts up thread  (e.g. see post XX) without actually quoting the post.

I'm going to build this ASAP, it's stupid not to have this.

Maybe this was mentioned in tech terms I don't understand, but I like having direct links to all the boards at the top and bottom of the page.  When I finish reading a baseball thread for example, I like being able to click directly to another board.  I can't see how to do that easily in the new version.

Check it out now - LMK what you think :)

I normally don't like when a site changes formats but eventually I grow into the new format and all is forgiven.

However, I really dig this new one.  If a set-in-his-ways oldhead like me likes the change then you done good.

Yeah it's very much everything in the same spot, just slightly different, but also just better.

Ok, I just made some pretty major progress. I think I got it feeling compact and less cartoonish.

Alt tabbing between the two on root feels so damn similar, but changes are made in a good way. I think the new theme is way way cleaner. Please give feedback I wanna launch before the 31st to get a game thread under our belts.

you're the gear head but in the context of tpq an "all up" launch with a game thread has an apollo 1 feel to it

why not just point everyone to the test version and call it an alpha?

Can't roll back. Need to rip the bandaid off there's a billion excuses to not ever move and I won't solve anything if i can keep putting it off.

@Hagbard Celine is content width better for you now?

I was playing with a logo at the top, but I think I like the text logo/slogan combo better than having a logo up top.

i know you have to replatform

that said the new feel is texags/secrant to me - i perceive an increase of wasted real estate - maybe just me

below see the same post - above is legacy - below is new - look at the subtle differences - in particular the reduction in the size of the graphic and the number of words on the 2nd line - multiply x100 per thread page and the clicks/scrolls is going up - and maybe there is no way around that

quick uat stat, number of pgdn to reach end of page 1 of "the U" thread:

legacy: 33

new: 35

one-line posts will not effect this - but this community is verbose

multi-sentence paragraphs will increase pgdn significantly

it appears that graphics are simply made smaller to compensate

i never log in on my cell, but i also think you have to optimize for mobile form factor to make the site stickier with yutes

to keep the place alive when you are the age of most of the community today you are going to have long previously made the site tiktokee

Idk why yours isn't rendering all the way to the right. It does on all my tests and the Max width is 2050 pixels
