  1. I remember being 4 years old and too short to ride that roller coaster. Utter meltdown. A lot of my good buddies from ISU grew up there, so I spent a lot of time hanging out there in the summers in college drinking way too much and chasing tail. It has a special place in my heart, even though it's a bit laughable to include it in a list of great beach communities (but it really sorta is).
  2. Go to Okoboji, Iowa and visit my other alma mater
  3. Door County, WI in general. Sister Bay and Bailey's Harbor in particular.
  4. I might honestly consider ending it if this happened to me.
  5. This song was released the day before my daughter was born (August of '23). Turnpike's probably my favorite active band. It's generally written towards the singer's wife, and the fans of the band, but it a lot of the sentiment can be applied to our situation. We first met with fertility doctors in July of 2017 and went through a bunch of IVF, egg retrieval, spent hundreds of thousands, and had gotten nowhere. My went down the surrogacy road and the first person who agreed to be a surrogate backed out right before implementation. It just seemed like it would never happen. And then it did. When the "with a dance or two still left in me" comes through, it makes me think of her getting married someday and it wrecks me.
  6. That picture was shortly after I set it up. It's now home to a pink Princess tent, a Bluey bubble wand, dog chew toys, and an endless array of stuffed animals.
  7. It’s a bar my buddy built. I designed it partially
  8. Made some chili, grilled some dogs made out of one of our hogs. Got buns from the bakery in town. Giddy up
  9. Kevin Willard is leaving the Big 10 for the Big East. Basketball ain’t football when it comes to conference hierarchy. The Big 12 is not at the same disadvantage on the hardwood as the gridiron.
  10. Big part of why Otz isn’t leaving ISU. His wife is ISU WBB royalty. She’s also an Aussie who considers central Iowa her American home
  11. Down to 27 by Sunday. Roller coaster never ends.
  12. To steer the convo away from Nazis, this is really making me angry lately... My in-laws have all of their packages delivered to our house, because they believe delivery services won't take packages to their house. We live in town, they live out in the country, but right on a 4 lane Federal highway. My MIL used to work at their county courthouse, and she would have things delivered to a PO Box in that town. Now that she's retired, she was worried that she wouldn't be going to town every day and it would become inconvenient. My wife works in the same town (which is not the town we live in), so when they have the packages delivered to our house, my wife has to load them up and bring them to work with her. My MIL then runs into town (the same town she has a PO box) to get them out of the car. A couple of times we've been out of town in the winter, and they've had something delivered that could freeze. So I had to call a buddy to go by the house and pick it up. This whole thing is fucking insane, but if I make a big deal out of it, it will turn into a shitfest who's downside will dramatically outweigh the upside of them having packages delivered to their easily accessible home like sane people would. I brought up the idea of anonymously mailing them a gift last night, and my wife yelled at me for "trying to make her parents feel stupid" and "prove a point". They're (my in-laws) all very protective of each others' irrational neuroses and get offended when I push against them. It's not a hill worth dying on, but it fuck, it makes me annoyed.
  13. McCasland isn’t leaving for Aggy. I doubt he leaves at all. Tech has a rabid fanbase and good NIL situation. He’s in the Elite 8 in year 2 (or is it 3? I can’t keep track of time anymore).
  14. You'll have to excuse me, assuming derision from others is baked into the Midwestern ethos. Part of why we can't take compliments for shit. Fantasy Factory is great when fresh. It's a little leaner/lighter flavor profile from something like Two Hearted. Agreed that fairly recently the Midwest was big on those kind of IPAs. That's when I really started getting into them. Surly Furious is in a similar vein.
  15. I dunno, but he's always been one of my favorite posters. Invited me to go riding with him a few years back when I was vacationing in Yellowstone. I think he was in the Pocatello ID area.
  16. Been missing @Braff Zacklin from the basketball and mountain biking discussions for a minute.

    Boognish

So many people with similar taste to me are super into Ween, but I've never quite gotten it at the same level. Although "Piss Up a Rope" just cracks me up to no end.
  18. I took at his him saying it looked like shit, and Midwest IPAs are shit, which is a wildly ignorant take of course. IMO there's no specific kind of IPA/APA that is unique to the Midwest, but there are plenty of Midwest breweries making world class IPAs/APAs. Toppling Goliath, New Glarus, 3 Floyds, Black Stack, Pipeworks, Half Acre. I could go on.
  19. My wife is a UNI alum/former athlete, and that happened a couple years after we graduated college. We were watching at a sports bar in Des Moines, and the whole place went absolutely apeshit. Everyone was united because Iowa fans mostly went to UNI and cheer for them on the side, and the ISU fans hate Kansas. 2 years later we were in Lawrence for an ISU/KU football game, and we were at a dive bar getting Bloody Marys and the bartender goes "did you guys go to Iowa State?" and my wife responds "he did, but I went to Northern Iowa". Bartender looks at her and dead-ass serious goes "I wouldn't mention that to too many people today". Dude's a Midwest legend, and a lot of UNI fans are crushed that they couldn't get him back to Cedar Falls to coach, but assuming he does well at CSU he's on his way to bigger things".
  20. Just start funneling money on the Florida line.
