  1. We're hanging tough for literally not having a starting backcourt.
  2. I've ridden NWA twice, and I honestly think I liked Eureka a little better than Bella Vista. Hobbs State Park is my favorite spot thus far. It's more remote than either of the others, and those trails are just perfect XC.
  3. If that model comes to pass, I wonder if you see the bottom half SEC and Big 10 schools consider moving to the Big 12 or ACC? If they aren't getting paid more, what's their incentive to stick around and get their heads kicked in by the blue bloods? Like if you're a Mizzou who is forced to be paid on the virtue of what they bring to the SEC, why wouldn't you look at joining back up with your historical rivals? Or if you're Kentucky why wouldn't you look at going to ACC where you play your arch rival as a conference game and hook up with basketball schools? By the same token that would open up Clemson and FSU to the SEC in a way that's more profitable for all parties. I could see that revenue model pushing things further towards Prestige Worldwide.
  4. Awesome. I rode this trails about this time last year, and very much agree with your assessment. I put in 17 miles and absolutely had my ass kicked. We're looking at spectacular weather the next few days (75 tomorrow) but there's still much moisture (likely) coming out of the ground to start riding. I'll be looking to hit my local trails tomorrow, but I think it's unlikely that I'll be riding anything other than pavement.
  5. When it comes to Nebraska, I'd rather not hear any exonerating facts.
  6. I sure hope so, because Iowa fans need a fucking dose of reality that up to this point they've been mostly born on third base, and not some kind of conference tent pole.
  7. Because the SEC has agreed to collude with the Big 10 due to the Big 10's financial backing. It would be nice if they developed a more adversarial relationship, because 75% of the Big 10 are schools that are no different in any meaningful capacity than the Big 12 and ACC schools, and just got lucky that Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State are more altruistic than any other schools in their position.
  8. Those last two spots are one G5 and one at large that's basically going to be Notre Dame if they have 3 or less losses.
  9. The secret is sitting farther away from the screen. I had it up on my 2nd monitor at work and almost had a seizure. Threw it on my living room TV and it wasn’t as bad
  10. Those can't be real. Can they?
  11. Right, and I fuckin' hate that. I feel like it's all being driven by the committee wanting to simplify their actual job. Rather than watch, evaluate, and take notes on all these teams, they'd rather just look at some metrics and go from there. It's why they don't react to high major conference tournaments. They'd have to do some work on Sunday!
  12. To piggyback onto this, this point just reminds me of how much it enrages me to see the entire sport get restructured around the whims of the committee. For example, there are 4 D1 schools in Iowa (ISU, U of I, Northern Iowa, and Drake). Drake and UNI are in the same conference and play twice a year. Both would play ISU and Iowa in the non-con in home-and-homes. In part because of how the committee started giving such heavy weight to metrics, ISU and Iowa ended those series to just load up on low major creampuffs to pad their metrics. You'd get punished so much for dropping a game to those highly motivated in-state opponents that it became a true losing proposition to play those games. I was elated at the time (because I hate losing to them) but after attending a UNI/Drake game this year at UNI, I thought "man, it would be fun if ISU still played in this gym". I'm sure there are countless examples of these high major/mid major in-state games being scuttled all over the country as a result of the same phenomena. And it sucks.
  13. The SoCon Championship was an excellent start to the week. It’s become fashionable to shit on conference tournaments because the committee doesn’t value the high major ones much, and as a sports society we only value the final playoff/tournament. But personally, fuck that. This is a great week of sports and I’m so fucking sick of discussions about certain sporting events “not mattering”. It’s fucking sports - none of it matters. I’m gonna have fun watching hoops.
  14. Don’t Be Tough sounds like Prine to me, but I can’t decide if it’s All the Best or Souvenirs
  15. Good While It Lasted has become my favorite
  16. I listened to it a bunch this weekend. My list of favorites hasn't changed much.
  17. That Rolling Stone review misses the point of a few songs - particularly the title track. That song is not a celebration - it's the narrator acknowledging he's a fiendish piece of shit. Which is why it's great.
  18. I've been a volunteer firefighter for a decade or so, and was motivated by a lot of the same things your kid is. I grew up farming (I farm now full time) but I was practicing law full time when I started doing and I was motivated by a desire to help out in the community and get back to doing some honest to goodness real god damn work. Farming full time keeps me away from a lot of calls, but I plan to do at least another 5 years, and have found the experience to be extremely rewarding. If I was doing things all over again, I would strongly consider telling young Al to get into full time career fire service. But to @BabaYaga's point, you will see some shit. I'm just a volunteer and I've seen plenty of dead bodies (we respond to all car accidents in our district). The worst thing I was ever a part of wasn't even a fatality though - it was a lift assist (that's when EMTs need more man power to physically remove a sick or injured person) on a bed ridden 500 lb man who thought he was having a heart attack. We go into the house, and all you could smell was BO and shit. There were pizza boxes everywhere. He was in bed naked, and shitting himself into a bed pad. His feet were swollen and purple and the skin was peeling off. I actually had to run out the front door and vomit into the bushes before I could really help carry him to the ambulance. I told my chief later in the week that that experience (of seeing someone who was alive but clearly decaying) was harder than any fatality I'd responded to. He agreed. So, yeah, buckle up, but I doubt he'll regret it and this may be his calling. Your kid sounds like a badass, IMO.
  19. He's comparing it to the best arena in the country, and to a clear top 10 arena in the country. I really don't think McKale is behind Hilton (and I'm obviously quite biased). At least it wasn't when we played there, or the other handful of Zona home games I've caught.
  20. That’s Drake’s game. Gonna either piss someone off big time in 2 weeks, or result in them getting blown out.
  21. Got my crusty old Drake Law hoody on. Go Dogs!
  22. I’m not a “Spotted Cow is overrated” guy, I’m more of a “Moon Man is underrated” guy.
  23. Agreed. But it’s also proven to be correct already
  24. The crazy part is that it might not be one of the 5 best beers that brewery makes
