  1. Hottest month in recorded human history SO FAR. I'm 2 pages behind so if someone else already made this comment, so be it. It bears repeating.
  2. 11th edition. We've sucked for most of the the past 11 years. Are we sure this book isn't actually a curse?
  3. Pfft. I can do one more than that.
  4. These are the bomb. Kids and parents agree.
  5. No pics right now, but I took delivery of my Rivian R1S (the SUV) last week. I've seen a lot of them around Austin, so I'm not the only one. This sucker is fast. It's ridiculous that a 7,000 lb SUV can go 0-60 in 3 seconds, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't fun. Although I did so many launches on day 1 showing it off I think I gave myself some mild whiplash. Extremely fun to drive, and assuming that the switch over to the Tesla charging standard that was announced (including a free adapter supposedly) happens next year, it's going to get even better for long road trips and the like.
  6. Well. Fuck.
  7. The Tesla Model 3 is one of the most affordable EVs out there. After the $7,500 tax credit (which is real money in your pocket when you file your tax return), a brand new Model 3 starts around $32,500 - and it's $40,000 without the tax credit. That's less expensive than the VW ID.4 or the Kia Niro or the Hyundai Ionic. It's so cheap these days that it's a full 20% less than the median new car price in the US (without the tax credit). If anything, they are producing so many of them and they are so cheap that they are losing any sort of cachet that they used to have (before Elon went full Space Karen), and the leagcy automakers are trying to compete in the "luxury EV" space more than the economy EV space (GM just killed the Bolt for example).
  8. Yes and no. Tesla has a huge head start with the supercharger network, although it will take both hardware and software upgrades to make it work with other non-Tesla vehicles. They will continue to expand/retrofit, and because they are already there they will be a big piece of the charging revenue stream for years/decades to come. Ford and GM have announced they aren't going to build their own network, and Tesla will get an increase over the next 5ish years (how big remains to be seen - Tesla produced 400k+ vehicles this last quarter, I don't think Ford and GM combined have produced 400K EVs total in their history). However, the NACS (North American Charging Standard) that Tesla uses, and which Ford, GM, Rivian, etc. have announced they will be using beginning in 2024 - 2025 is an open standard that is royalty free, so anyone can (and will) be able to use it. Electrify America and ChargePoint have already announced the will begin building NACS chargers. Rivian has their own network they are building out (it is aimed more at places like National Parks and such) which they have announced will be switching over. While Ford and GM have said they're happy to let other people do the buildout, tesla won't be getting money from the other networks that are built out. I think it's a savvy business move, but it's not like Elon just set up Tesla for a perpetual revenue stream from all charging in North America.
  9. Hah. It's a 2 story with a pool on about 3 acres and river frontage. I still don't want to deal with the hassle of it when he's no longer with us.
  10. My dad still lives there. You want to buy his house when he dies? None of the kids are going to want it.
  11. Having grown up in Castroville, this is very strange to see something this cool being built there. It was anything but cool back in the day.
  12. Well. Fuck.
  13. Because, unlike the astroturf'd protests against Drag Queens being "groomers" who are dangerous to children, the real danger remains the same as it ever was - family members, clergy, etc.
  14. Apparently at least one subreddit (r/interestingasfuck) is back, but practicing malicious compliance. Reddit can't/doesn't have ads on NSFW subreddits, so the mods changed it to NSFW and are not removing any sexual/porn posts as those are not against the policy of a NSFW sub.
  15. Just watched S4 over the last week, one a night and watched the last 2 episodes tonight. That’s the way to do it. It’s built to binge - 30 minute episodes, 8 per season. I think Bill Hader is a freaking genius, and this series definitely shows his chops - prestige television is giving way to streaming as the dominant paradigm, and this is a show that is built to be watched over a month or a few weeks start to finish. When the writers strike is over he will be in demand. It was a great ride. My only criticism of the finale - wish it ended with the sudden fade to black when Barry got shot.

  17. Or maybe that is when the 9 game schedule starts.

  19. Bill Miller BBQ in San Antonio disagrees. They've been selling sweet tea since the 1950s.
  20. Yeah, unless you stop a show mid episode it's not on the keep watching tab. Annoying.
  21. He pinned that tweet to the top of his twitter feed because he wants to rub it in people's faces that he was right about USC and UCLA to the B1G.
