  1. Or gift cards. My boss just texted me (he said to keep this on the down low) that he wants me to get a bunch of gift cards for a partner he's talking to. Would be a couple thousand dollars' worth. Any help I can get would be great.
  2. I've started listening to Taylor Swift just to piss off ... you-know-who. The sort of people who get their panties in a wad because of Taylor Swift. It's actually really good music. I mean, she hasn't released a Master of Puppets or Led Zeppelin IV or anything, but some of the songs are really quite well-written.
  3. Words to live by. The fewer the ingredients you have, the more care you have to have with 'em.
  4. A Philips Norelco lift-and-cut rotary is my daily. Self-sharpening, easy to use, easy to clean, no cuts. And a fraction of the cost of razors in the long run. Usually don't shave until after my morning coffee, though.
  5. lololol I know there's people who actually think this way but uh... yeah. How lame you gotta be to judge people by the phone they use? I'm not unhip because of the phone I use. I'm unhip because I drive an Accord. Get it right! Well, like... Lemme know.
  6. Well, I ran as fast as I could to the link and ... no Android app. People still do iPhone-only in this day and age? 🤷
  7. Audio cables? Those actually affect your sound. Try the POWER cables they sell. Laugh at this effusive advertisement masquerading as a review: https://positive-feedback.com/reviews/hardware-reviews/audioquest-dragon/
  8. sorry. already trademarked by Victoria Justice, apparently
  9. that's what this thread is about, man tits and Justice
  10. Mary Crosby does NOT get enough love.
  11. Because the water in San Diego tastes like shit. Visited Arrowhead Lake last Winter, and regretted not bringing some 10-gallon jugs to drag the tap water home in for our coffee and tea.
  12. Same same, only Feathers instead of Derby. And I got cheap soap cup and brush from Rite-Aid.
  13. oh man you know what else is like that? shaving. fuckers be out there telling you that you should get a these diamond-tipped DE razor blades with a handle made of pure Amazon rainforest mahogany with a blade holder of the finest dwarven mithril; the shave brush must use wood from the highest branch of the sacred baobab tree (terabytes of the Internet have been wasted on arguing over whether it should be harvested at the crack of dawn or just as the sun sets) with bristles cut straight from a young male unicorn's pubic fur. The soap should be served in 200-year-old Chinese ceramic mugs with soap made exclusively from the fat of harp seals no older than 3 years old. Water should come straight from the sacred hot springs of Roman Baths (though some say any sacred hot spring shall do) and you might as well grow your face wild and unkempt if you're not going to do this exactly. Which is, more or less, how the beard fashion started; nobody could be buggered to do a proper shave any more.
  14. Yeah, funny how coffee and audio are similar rabbit holes, with a combination of science, personal taste, and absolute gibberish that you have to comb through to get to what you want. And you can spend insane amounts of money, or nothing at all if you want garbage. But you don't have to spend a lot to get great results. A good grinder ($80), a good water boiler ($75), a Brita filter ($30) and a good French press ($85), and whatever whole beans you can grab will change your coffee experience for the better permanently for under $300. Keep the used grounds for your garden.
  15. Heh. Try digital audio sometime. Made even worse by the people who do follow the science generally tend to quote one guy who had all the facts right... but then drew conclusions that didn't follow from the very facts he presented. And all too few people noticed. Add to that the mystical powers supposedly contained by a $200 power cable, vs the actual amount of money required to get a standards-compliant HDMI cable, and you've got yourself a mess.
  16. Grind only what you need at the moment you need it. So, this is true in general, but a cheap flat burr is going to have more variation than a well-made conical burr. It's those manufacturing tolerances that matter, and there are fewer variables to account for with flat burrs than conical. I think my subconscious is trying to convince me to get a new grinder.
  17. That grinder, the OXO, is apparently the one people recommend as a low cost alternative now, supplanting the Capresso Infinity I bought (which is now also more expensive). And yes. There's nothing that'll improve the quality of your coffee more than a good grinder. I swap out beans all the time; I've done everything from espresso to French press to Turkish style fine grounds directly in the cup. The grinder is the most important piece of equipment.
  18. See, my research (and experience) was the opposite. Flat burr grinders produced more "sand." But maybe that's because mine was cheap. Flat burr grinders also generate more heat, and have much more retention of old grounds.
  19. I agree with most of this, except the stuff about burr type. Get conical burrs. The reason is that they are more consistent and heat the beans less. I've done everything from coarse grinds to espresso grinds in mine. It don't matter which; use conical.
  20. He doesn't see this as a victory, though. Based on every comment I've seen from him since... and comments he made in earshot of reporters... That, right there, is THE fact that you hypothesis ignores. Not the only one, but it's a doozy.
