  1. The silly songs are horrible. Toss up between the hippopotamus song and the one about grandma getting run over by a reindeer.
  2. I was at Springsteen’s concert at the Summit in December 1978 and he sang it. Unexpected at the time but it was great. O Holy Night is probably my favorite. Pretty much any version but Josh Groban’s is my recent favorite.
  3. There is a fine line between browned but still chewy bacon and the dark browned bacon that breaks into a bunch of little pieces when you bite into it. The latter is terrible and the former is glorious.
  4. So was the shooter about 40 yards from you or less?
  5. No way Hugh Grant’s bad ass lawyer puts the wife on the stand. She would have read the 911 transcript as well as her police interview. The mother in law story about the death of the sister might have been new but the rest of the cross examination would have been foreseen. The lawyer would not have risked the waiver of the spousal privilege.

Am I the only guy that scrapes the sides of the pot as it cooks?

So long as you know it’s salted then go ahead and add salt to the stock. Otherwise, it’s like salted butter. If you aren’t careful you can over salt a dish. I think it’s easier to not salt my stock so I can more easily control the salt content of the final dish.
  10. I had a SWG and travertine coping and decking and had no issues. I sealed it every year and occasionally washed it down with fresh tap water. I would not have another pool without a SWG. I would choose the building materials around the SWG and avoid all sandstone. With the SWG and the Polaris 280, I didn't need a pool man. The only thing I had to buy was a bag of salt each year or so (only because of splash out and rain) and some muriatic acid every month or two--the SWG naturally causes pH to rise. Whatever you do, add borates. It makes the water feel and smell great and generally helps stabilize the chemistry of the pool.
  11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_World_(1960_film) It was occasionally on the Sunday Night Movie. It was memorable for a boy because it had a young Jill St. John and Vitina Marcus as the Native Girl. https://images.app.goo.gl/NVBBWmFSfNqZi7WbA
  12. Butter. A lot of butter and some cream or half and half makes for great mashed potatoes. Freshly ground pepper too.
  13. Turkey pot pie is also very good with the leftovers.
  14. The monarch is also the head of the Church of England. That’s what screwed up Edward VIII and Wallis.

  16. The monkeys and the witch scared the hell out of me as a kid. Loved it when she melted.

  18. They also push liquid chlorine bleach. Their big issue is that pucks or sticks or powder chlorine add either CYA or calcium. If you don’t backwash often (and if you have a cartridge filter they are not backwashed) and replace water you will have problems.
  19. Not sure but I believe the entire bottle is recommended for a turkey. Maybe 1/4 of the bottle per chicken?
  20. I’m in a similar boat, but i like to sip my bourbon with one or two small ice cubes. I don’t chase the hard to get stuff. I mainly drink Weller SR and WT 101. At my club I can get a great pour of Blanton’s for $13 so I drink it fairly often but I never go out of my way to find a bottle. When I’m really feeling cheap I find that Benchmark 8 and Ezra Bottled in Bond are very drinkable. About as high as I go are Rare Breed, High West and OF1920 or 1910 which I can easily find in Houston. Michter’s also is a reasonable splurge. Lucky for me, I suppose, every time I blind taste the above reasonably priced bourbons against some allocated expensive stuff, I really can’t tell a meaningful difference.
  21. You probably know about troublefreepools.com. I was a huge disciple. I miss my old pool.

If it really happened, I suspect they would get eaten rather quickly by wolves, coyotes, bears, etc. There may be some bones laying around.
  23. Peanut oil is recommended. It takes 2.75 gallons. I used Tony Chachere’s cajun butter for the injection. It was very good.
  24. I just bought the Masterbuilt XL from Academy. Delivered in two business days. $90. A friend fried one for me last Spring and it was fantastic. It can handle a 20 lb. turkey. Cooks in about 70 min.
  25. There should be other threads on this. It’s not a reliability issue for individuals using Green Mtn, etc. until, like California, providers within ERCOT replace our reliable sources with too much wind and solar to cause brown outs for everybody. If you use Green Mountain you are not actually using 100% solar/wind. The electrons in the grid don’t know how they were made to move along the conductors and into your home.
