  1. Where did he go to college? UT? If he went to school in state he should have friends who will be moving here too. I’d want to be close to my friends. Otherwise, midtown, Rice Military, Washington Ave., Memorial/Westcott would all be great for a young professional.
  2. Chase had no fee checking accounts when my kids were in high school. I think they called them college accounts or maybe student accounts.
  3. I have found that my warm up has no bearing on how well I play that day. And sometimes, like all of April and most of May, no warm up at all produced some great scores for me. I definitely believe that too much time on the range can hurt. If I hit several bad shots in a row and don’t know what I did wrong it can ruin my round before it starts. If I practice at before a round I now try to hit 20-30 balls. And if I hit my driver really well the first time I hit it I’m done.
  4. I have this as well. Works well. I could clip my own hair during the shutdown. Probably not perfect but good enough.

    Getting old sucks

I did the two part Shingrix vac within the last year. I came down with shingles about 9 months or so before Shingrix was available. The doc said even though I had shingles that it can, and often does, come back--and in the same area as the first time. So I got the vacs as soon as I could. edit: And the old vaccine was not very effective and IIRC it was not recommended unless you were over 60. The new Shingrix is recommended for people over 50.

  7. When I built my pool in 2010 one of the builders that gave me a bid said he is not bound to any equipment manufacturer and that he would never use Hayward. Whether I used him or not he recommended Pentair.

    Gumbo

Roux is not hard. Use a cast iron skillet and a wisk. Don’t get distracted and keep wisking and you can get a good mahogany roux in 30 minutes. The key is how hot you have the fire. Start at medium high and keep stirring.
  9. This right here. I loved my salt pool and if I ever have another pool I would make sure I built it to accommodate a salt system. That and a good pool sweep and it’s unbelievably low maintenance.

That’s better than the crack of your ass down and up the scrotum.
  11. Check out troublefreepools.com. I was a disciple when I had my pool. They stress using liquid chlorine or do a salt pool with a saltwater chlorine generator. I had a salt pool and I loved it. But don't do salt if you have soft stone around your pool. It will erode it. The problem with using chlorine pucks or sticks is that they have cyanuric (sp?) acid. As CYA is added to the pool it requires more and more chlorine as the CYA increases. Eventually, if you don't dilute it by draining water and adding fresh water, you will likely get an algae outbreak and it will be a pain in the ass to get rid of. The forums at troublefreepools explain this in depth. There are some chemistry geeks on that site who seem to know what they are talking about. Another factor is whether you have a sand or cartridge filter. If you have a sand filter you might get away with using chlorine pucks or sticks because you are backwashing and adding fresh water often enough to keep the CYA within manageable levels. But if you have a cartridge filter, and especially if you don't get much rain, the CYA level will continue to increase and it will become problematic. I had a cartridge filter that I cleaned twice a year and a salt water chlorine generator. I also had a Polaris 280 vacuum--it requires a dedicated pump. The Polaris kept my pool extremely clean. The Polaris along with the salt water chlorine generator allowed me to forego a pool guy altogether. The one downside to the saltwater pool (other than the problem with soft stone work around the pool) is that you have to add a little muriatic acid every couple of weeks because the chlorine generation process causes the pH to rise over time. It's nasty stuff, but it's cheap. All in though, after the initial $800-$1000 or so investment in the salt water generator and salt, I spent about $10 per month on my pool for acid, extra salt, and CYA, and it took very little time actually dealing with the pool, like brushing the plaster and checking the skimmers. And no matter what you do, add borates to your pool--unless your kids/pets like to drink a lot of pool water. I really miss my pool.
  12. Demand for golf at private clubs in Houston is crazy with high school, college and even recent graduates all at home.
  13. He didn't say "nothing sweet" he said not "that sweet." My recipe isn't that sweet because I add a shit ton of rum. I hate overly sweet cocktails.

  16. A floater in a Planter’s Punch. And my favorite PP recipe is equal parts pineapple juice, orange juice, sweet and sour mix and sprite/7up. Add grenadine to taste. I don’t like mine too red. To the base I add light rum—at least 3 oz per serving. Mix with ice and then add a floater of dark rum, preferably Myer’s.
  17. Replace the whole fixture with an LED fixture. Wiring is easy. The only issue I had when I did it was getting a good screw set in the sheetrock to hold the fixture. I hate those plastic things you insert in the sheetrock that hold the screw.
  18. Update: it works with the correct bulbs. The Damar LEDs are nice. I did the other fixture in the closet in about 15 minutes.
  19. At least once a week during swim season I would hose off my coping and decking to wash off any salt residue. I recommend you do that. Also, add borates (unless your kids or dogs drink a lot of pool water). The water feels great and even smells great. Check out the forums at troublefreepool.com.

  21. True. And I did that for one of my fixtures in the garage. I know the lights last a long time, but at least for the fixtures in my master closet I'd rather simply replace the tubes vs. re-wiring a new fixture if it goes out.
  22. Thanks. There are several videos of some re-wires that use the existing wiring to the tombstones. They just cut the blue and red wires from the opposite ends of the ballast and then connect those to the black (L) and white (N) wires from the ceiling. It appears that you don't have to replace the tombstones to non-shunted tombstones unless you are using the single-sided LED tube that has the L and N connections only on one end. At least I hope that's correct and that's how I've wired it. I'll know tonight when I insert the new LED tube.
  23. I tried taking out the ballast on one of my closet fixtures and connected the tombstones directly to my power supply. As shown in several Youtube videos, I decided to go with a dual side connection--mainly because it seemed that my tombstones are shunted and I did not want to replace them with non-shunted ones which are required for a single sided connection. It was simple to cut the two blue wires coming from one end of the ballast and connect them to the white (N) wire from my ceiling. Then there was a single red wire going from the other end of the ballast to the other two tombstones (it's hidden, but there must be a jumper connecting the two tombstones on that end) and I cut it and connected it to the black (L) wire from the ceiling. The ground wire was left in place. I replaced the cover over the wires and then inserted the new LED tubes and then turned the breaker back on and flipped the switch. . . . Nothing. It appears that the Phillips "plug and play" LED T8 tubes actually REQUIRE an electronic ballast. They work fine on the other closet fixture that still has the ballast connected. I bought some Damar LED tubes and the guy at Light Depot says they will work with or without a ballast. We'll see.
  24. And “in this space.” Hate that term.
