Right. And when THCa is burned, it converts to Delta 9. THCa isn’t psychoactive. That’s why just chewing weed won’t get you high. You have to cook it to get THC (Delta 9). I should clarify that when using the term “marijuana,” I’m generally referring to edibles derived from the marijuana plant. Which I understand is probably confusing.

Not just “in some amount.” Delta 9 is the primary intoxicating molecule in marijuana. There is literally no difference at the molecular level between “Delta 9 THC” and the THC in marijuana that is primarily responsible for getting you high. The difference from what I can tell is that marijuana also includes a whole shitload of other cannabinoids (such as CBD, CBN, Delta 8, Delta 10, etc.), typically in lower amounts compared to Delta 9 THC.

As I understand it, both are versions of the THC molecule. Delta 9 is the exact same molecule that gets you high from regular old weed. Delta 8 is a slight variant, and is generally thought to be less potent and give a slightly different high. In Texas, I believe the main difference as it relates to Delta 9 THC is how it is derived (from hemp, not marijuana) and the limits on concentration (0.3%). And also, Delta 9 products might lack trace cannabinoids that are found in weed. I guess that could make a difference. So generally, a Delta 9 edible in Texas can be compared apples-to-apples to a THC edible bought in, say, Colorado. The same THC is the primary active ingredient in both, although a marijuana edible will likely include a broader spectrum of cannabinoids that could vary the effects. But I’m certainly not an expert on any of this.
  4. The only thing Alex and I agree about is his self-loathing.
  5. And to address the sudden topic shift: for the same reason, the fascist right wing is dominated by Christian denominations that place more emphasis on apocalyptic eschatology. Dystopian fiction goes back millennia and it served the same purpose then that it serves now.
  6. “Wrong” is a subjective term. What’s clear is that fiction — especially dystopian narratives — can be incredibly powerful propaganda. For example, research suggests that totalitarian dystopian fiction makes people more likely to support political violence. Indeed, fiction appears far more persuasive on this front that nonfictional reports of actual totalitarian oppression. Which is why so much of the emerging genre of rightwing fiction deals with totalitarian dystopian themes. The right is indulging in the fantasy of a leftist totalitarian dystopia and it’s driving them to political violence. It’s much easier to convince a group of idiots who consume a steady stream of stupid bullshit about leftist world government conspiracies to storm the capital than, say, people who watch mainstream news outlets, read Oprah’s book list, and indulge in rom coms.
  7. This thread should put an end to the idea that there is any substance whatsoever to Anastasis’s bothsides nonsense. It’s nothing but empty rhetoric.
  8. You made an absurdly sweeping bothsideser claim. You can’t back it up. Which, of course, is completely unsurprising to any of us.
  9. What a bloviating way to admit you’re full of shit. Cite the examples, Annie.

    Thread title checks out.
  11. You’d contribute, too, if you were a true patriot fighting against the global cabal of liberal reptilian trans pedophile vampire elites who actually run the world.
  12. There’s a major push of alt right propaganda masquerading as feature films. I posted on another thread about Nefarious, which is just preachy rightwing nonsense marketed as a horror / thriller. It’s a garbage movie regardless. We stumbled onto it by accident, but it turns out my mom’s priest had recommended it as part of his homily. Which is fucking insane. If you want to dissolve your last remaining shred of faith in humanity, read the audience reviews. Many viewers felt this story of a demon-possessed death row convict convincing an atheist that abortion is bad was “the most realistic portrayal of evil.” Mass media propaganda isn’t really new. It was circulating in novel form going back to the Left Behind series and, before that, The Turner Diaries. The bottom line is that much of the rightwing beliefs are based on completely fabricated fiction. I would even argue that a defining characteristic of rightwing thought is the enthusiastic incorporation of fictional narratives into one’s internal model of reality. Alex Jones is an exemplar of this particular flavor of idiocy in action: the dude constantly cites to sci-fi movies as evidence of the truth behind whatever (exaggerated or fabricated) news story he’s talking about that day.
  13. Yesterday’s results were the best possible outcome. Bama’s win and FSU’s bumfight victory may have cleared both Georgia and Bama out of our path.
  14. I’m guessing that by that point, the tidal forces would have already fucked our shit up. Earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, and possibly loss or thinning of the atmosphere would make it difficult to enjoy one last drink or screw. But I’d still try.
  15. These movies look terrible and amateurish, and they are clearly written and performed by humorless hacks. But they’re part of a growing effort to provide a rightwing alternative to shared pop culture media. Other examples include the painfully unfunny Fox News show Gutfeld! and the sanctimonious-culture-wars-sermon-masquerading-as-thriller movie Nefarious. We stumbled onto the latter accidentally (pro tip: ignore Rotten Tomatoes audience scores) only to find out that my mom’s priest had recommended it from the pulpit at mass. Spoiler alert! It’s a terrible, boring movie that literally culminates in a Glenn Beck episode. This stuff is all unwatchable schlock. But rightwing ding-dongs are watching it and talking about it. And all it does is confirm their weird views and further isolate them from mainstream culture. It’s propaganda, and it will likely be effective at continuing to drive the right further over the cliff of fascist assholery.

    Nice try, narc.
  17. This Christmas season, Texas Republicans will tune into the broadcast of It’s a Wonderful Life to root for Mr. Potter.
  18. Lolz. On the right wing, “political freedom” equals “nobody tells me what an asshole I am when I say my weird, awful political views out loud.”
