  1. I recorded this huge herd of mule deer two weeks ago east of Rapid City. I missed the first ~50 getting my iPhone ready, and there were dozens more in the field just beyond the stubble that are hard to make out in the video. There were a good 250 total. This is 2 miles from where I got stuck in a line of cars 10 years ago waiting for a big herd to cross the highway. A friend was close to the front of the line and saw most of the herd. He claimed to have stopped counting at 200, but he’s a Sooner, so I assumed he was lying.
  2. Go Yotes! Sorry if that’s rude.
  3. Caught these two just a few days after our season ended. Just as well, because they both could use another year or two. I initially thought it was the same buck, but not so upon closer examination.
  4. She’s having way to much fun eating a cold Whataburger and fries.
  5. Can’t quite make out the number…
  6. This was the first time in any of our lifetimes (Brat being the obvious exception) when TCU has played a game with the same size target on its back that Texas has almost every game. It took a fucking NC appearance for them to experience it. Combine that with an elite opponent, and you’re left with an ass kicking.
  7. Honestly don’t know what the problem was. Was it one or two crucial calls or stuff that wasn’t enforced equally throughout the game?
  8. I’m happy for SDSU, even though I gave a starting OL from NDSU my set (his first) set of dumbbells 10+ years ago. I’ve had multiple family members go to USD, so there is generally no love lost when it comes to SDSU. My dad’s older brother got his engineering degree from SDSU in the early 30s (he trained fighter pilots during the Battle of Britain, which is a cool story), and a cousin got her nursing degree there more recently, but that’s it. The SDSU QB went down early in the FCSCG two years ago, and it still came down to a FG at the end of the game. It’s nice to see him finally get the one that got away.
  9. The actress, Joy Harmon, didn’t age particularly well, but here’s a somewhat recent interview with her. Talk about her acting starts about 6 minutes in. Now that I’m on my Joy Harmon research project…
  10. My vegan daughter gave in after 6 years. There’s always hope.
  11. We were at our cabin for Christmas, and I had driven my F150. My wife insisted on going to town with one of my daughters for some after-Christmas shopping. They get home after dark, and I see her maneuvering back and forth in the driveway. I go outside to help because I was afraid she would hit someone else’s car. By the time I got out there, she - with my daughter as navigator - only had one tire on the concrete. It’s not as flat as it appears in this pic, but if she had continued backing up, she would’ve been down in the creek. As it turns out, she had unilaterally decided to drive my daughter to the airport for her early morning flight and didn’t want to back out of the driveway in the dark. I told her to pull onto flat ground and let me park the truck. Zoom in for tire tracks as well as snow tracks:
  12. True story about my first glimpse of real, live, early 70s boobs the summer before I turned 11. I was a paperboy on my route one day (very small town in SD), and one of my sister’s friends (~16) was washing her car in the driveway. Jody was a pretty lass, barefoot and dressed in cut-offs and a halter top, so I stopped my bike to say hi. I surprised her, and she quickly stood up. Her halter top was the type that tied around her neck, but it came untied and quickly fell down because it was wet. It took her a second or two to drop her hose and sponge and turn around, so I got a good look. It changed my life. I told my sister about this decades later, and she told Jody at their 20-year reunion. She laughed because she remembered that glorious summer day. Jody didn’t live to see her 40th birthday, though. She was driving north on a rural highway just before sundown with her visor flipped down over her side window. She had her Walkman headphones on and didn’t see or hear the eastbound train.
