  1. The world could use a few more vainglorious billionaires who donate $3 billion companies to fighting climate change.
  2. Perhaps you spend a little too much time judging yourself and everyone around you on the basis of tiny little labels on clothing. You see a guy in a Patagonia [or insert brand here] jacket and you think “he’s an insufferable cunt.” I see a guy in a Patagonia jacket and think, well nothing really, he’s just a guy in a jacket like everyone else in a jacket when it’s cold. If you go to the grocery store in Texas in the winter, you will likely encounter 10-20% of people wearing a Patagonia puff jacket, fleece, or vest. Why? To stay warm. Not to mention people wearing North Face or whatever other clothing of choice. Probably 50% of people have some visible brand label on their jacket. Are all of those people douchebags in your eyes? That must be an awful way to go through life, constantly worried about what everyone else is wearing.
  3. Also, will the hoodie from Walmart keep me warm on my next ski trip?
  4. I need more street cred. Should I start shopping at Ross and Walmart?
  5. I have one particular cherry tomato plant/bush that was putting off about 30 tomatoes/week in the spring and early summer. I've kept it alive through the brutal part of the summer but it looks a little rough in some areas and I've had very few tomatoes for about a month now. Should I prune it back pretty heavily and let it grow fresh for the fall, or just let it run its course without any intervention?
  6. Just finished Surface. The previews looked decent but the show sucked. Writing was terrible. Plot holes galore which only existed for the sake of maintaining a mystery, which wasn’t much of a mystery at all and the payoff was absolutely not worth it. Don’t recommend.
  7. The reactions on Texags (which is possibly the most delusional extreme of their fan base) would disagree with you. Lots of infighting about the entire concept of midnight yell and whether or not it should be allowed to continue.
  8. Serious question, how does aggy approach midnight yell practice for Miami this week? They have to do it, because tradition, but sports fans across the country are eagerly waiting to see those same 4 yell leaders go out there and make fools of themselves again. A week after making lame jokes about App State, then losing to App State, then becoming a nationwide punchline, they have to do it again, for everyone to see. Will they cancel their own live stream and prohibit cameras?
  9. Went to see The Killers in Fort Worth tonight. What a great show.
  10. POOOOR AGGY....
  11. You’re such a tourist. Be careful though, there are white women in Cabo.
  12. Well despite my lukewarm feelings on season 1, I'm watching season 2 and liking it a little more through 5 episodes.
  13. Regardless of what most people think about GoT seasons 7-8, most people that enjoy this type of show would agree that GoT seasons 1-4 were some of the best in television history. So if your measuring stick for HOTD is to compare it to the first season of GoT, you probably just need to get ready to be disappointed. It’s a completely new show with new characters, stories, and conflicts. It probably won’t be as good as GoT season 1, but that doesn’t stop it from being a good show in its own right and hopefully have a clean story that doesn’t tank at the end.
  14. Hah, ok I’m dumb then. I suppose I just thought since it’s 5 days and each episode was 1 day, that it was a 5 episode series. Thanks for filling me in.
  15. I wanted to like this show a lot more than I actually did. I felt there were some big holes in their recounting of the events, and I can’t tell how much of that is grounded in reality and how much is simply TV drama or bad storytelling. Lots of bad and irrational decisions were made by everyone involved. A lot of that was probably true due to the people on the ground having poor planning, limited resources, sleep deprivation, etc. But as a viewer, I had a hard time understanding certain things and felt the show could’ve done a better job laying that out. The first 2-3 episodes showed various staff members being interviewed after the fact. Why did they abandon that aspect in later episodes? My brief internet reading says all charges against staff were eventually dropped, but the show hinted at an investigation and never actually gave us any information there. What about the hundreds of civilians that sought refuge in the hospital? I would think many of them left on their own accord at some point, but the show made that seem like an unthinkable idea, then never explained what they did and leaves us to assume they were all evacuated at the end. Why kill the dogs prematurely? Why not wait until the last people are literally walking out the door to take that action? Why when a single helicopter shows up does the staff immediately start wheeling multiple NICU babies up to the helipad without any indication that there will actually be a second helicopter? Lots more questions along the way. Maybe the book answers more of those but I’m probably not going to read it now. Would be curious if anyone else has and could provide more insight.
  16. We did Telluride the last 2 years. It’s our absolute favorite but we’re taking a year off for the sake of variety. Looking at either Big Sky (never been) or Park City (we have been).
  17. Appreciate all the suggestions. I’m not looking to completely soundproof the room, just somewhat reduce the sound transmission through the wall. You can hear normal conversation through it pretty easily as it is. Not really an issue now, but it may be frustrating when there’s a baby in there and we’re trying to sleep. Also, we probably have 2-3 more years in this house, so I’m leaning towards an easier fix like adding insulation over a more complicated fix like replacing the drywall.
  18. That’s the type of solution I had in mind. On the surface, it seems like it should work. Would you say it helped reduce sound transmission in your case?
  19. Master bedroom shares a wall with what will become an infant’s bedroom. Noise transmission through the wall has always been subpar but it never mattered before.
  20. I don’t understand the relevance of your post to this thread. Did you read another CS Lewis book recently that made you think of that experience from your teenage years? This is the “Watcha reading?” thread, which is a present participle that indicates current action.
  21. Is it possible to do this? I've heard of injectable foam insulation that gets injected through small holes, which looks like I would need to find a local company that offers this. Does it actually help reduce sound transmission? Alternatively, could I cut a 3-4" hole near the ceiling between each stud and manually add insulation through the hole? Then patch the holes? Looking for options that don't involve tearing out the drywall and replacing it entirely.
  22. 1. That’s not weird to me at all. 2. There’s more than 3 generations in 200 years.
  23. I had zero expectations but I really enjoyed it. Agreed with others that it felt good to be back in the GoT universe for a while.
  24. You can’t go wrong with either. Ellerbe is probably our favorite restaurant in town. Go there 2-3 times a year and it’s always excellent. Grace is also great but for some reason I forget it exists. Haven’t been since probably pre-Covid days. Need to fix that.
  25. I mostly enjoyed the finale. It focused more on the space stuff which is the entire reason to watch this show. Danny and Jimmy were horrible to watch the entire season and their respective storylines were dragging the show down. We got less of that this episode which was a great thing. The North Korean backstory was interesting to me, and agreed with whoever referenced Desmond from LOST because that’s exactly what I thought of. Molly needed more screen time all season. With the departure of Margot, they should’ve made Molly a surviving hero from the bombing and let her go on to lead NASA. She’s a badass and the show needs her type of character. I still liked Margot throughout this season. She gets criticism for being a traitor, but my interpretation is that she and Sergei collaborated over many years for the sake of advancing human space exploration, regardless of citizenship status or political lines. Her commitment was to that cause and she served it well. I think she could’ve died in this episode, but I guess they still plan to use her in future seasons. Dev and Karen and Helios sucked. Obviously meant to represent Elon and SpaceX and private space exploration, but they are the most boring group of characters. Karen is obviously gone, hopefully Dev and the rest are too. I was pretty frustrated with this show at the middle of this season mostly due to the Stevens brothers’ storylines, but they did just enough at the end to win me back and I’ll be looking forward to season 4.
