  1. Interesting (maybe) family story related to the Japanese occupation of China and the birth of my wife’s mother: My wife needed her mother’s birth city for a visa application. Here’s the gist of their conversation: Wife: Where you born? Mom: In China Wife: I know that. Where in China? Mom: Oh. A horse farm. Wife: Where was the horse farm? Mom: I don’t know. Wife: Ok. I’ll just go with Horse Farm, China. Side story: Around the time my MIL was being born, her older sister (maybe 8 or so at the time), went missing. Some of the older family members ran among the other families fleeing the Japanese to look for her. Luckily, they found her not too far down the road.
  2. Copied from another thread based on a suggestion: I’m in a playoff pool where the participants pick a lineup at each stage with the caveat being you can only select a player one time. This is only my second year playing in a pool like this, so I’m interested in hearing/discussing any strategy. There are multiple layers of complexity when selecting a lineup (e.g., likelihood of generating fantasy points vs. not advancing, probability of scoring more points in the earlier rounds vs. the conference championship or Super Bowl, saving a player who ends up not advancing). Has anyone done one of these playoff pools?

  4. This makes me feel better about giving up 2nd.
  5. I considered going with Georgia (one of my nephews graduated from there); however, I wanted a chance at 1st.
  6. BottleRock just announced the 2023 lineup. Looking forward (at first glance) to RHCP, Duran, Pumpkins, Wu, Sheryl Crow, Japanese Breakfast, Mike Campbell, Los Lobos, and War. Any recommendations on the rest of the lineup?
  7. TCU or Georgia? Four players have a chance to finish in the money with three having a shot at 1st, depending on the picks.
  8. My wife and I got married in Austin on November 5, 2005 (her father was diagnosed with cancer, so we chose Baylor weekend), so we had been married for only a couple of months. She and I had tickets to the game; however, she got a horrible cold a day before we our flight to LA. The next day she didn’t feel any better (couldn’t even get out of bed) and knew she wouldn’t be able to go. I said “Sorry, baby” and left for the airport. She would have done the same thing. csb…In 2020, when there were no sports during the early part of the pandemic, she and I watched the game like it was live. We were yelling and cheering throughout. Our kids thought we were crazy.
  9. Not many weather issues in Oakland. Don’t keep anything of value in your rental car.
  10. Would Georgia beat 2004 USC? How about the 85 Bears?
  11. I’m doing a re-watch, as well. Just finished the episode in which Henri was introduced.
  12. I’m still recovering from our drive from Houston to Oakland.
  13. Looks like 4 people have a chance to finish in the money (1st or 2nd) Jameslaw Quinn Ewer’s Haircut Me MNLonghorn (best possible finish is 2nd) If we all pick Georgia and they win, it will be James and me finishing 1-2. Let the game of wits begin!
  14. My youngest nephew graduated from Georgia, so go Dawgs. Also, fuck Ohio State.
  15. This game ain’t drunk, it’s on meth and snorting coke
  16. Isn’t “TCU porn” the same as searching for “BBC cucks?”
