  1. I'm not trying to offend, I just don't like his music or his act, it feels very contrived. I could be completely off base (well, except for the part where I don't like his music, I'm comfortable saying that).
  2. I'd have to look at our breaker setup and figure out what circuit the pump is on. I would be leaning towards tying the generator into a new switch that I could flip when grid power is down, and using the breakers to control power flow (to some degree).
  3. Best concert I ever attended. CBGB, "Hang Time" tour. Phenomenal live band.
  4. ~ 0.65 (69-37-5, so how you count ties affects the calculation) Which one was that? I can hardly remember who aligned with what schools at this point (save the Okies and Aggies).
  5. We weren't so lucky with our early-aughts Expedition. It had the bigger motor and the transmission wasn't really sized to handle that horsepower long term. It completely crapped out in the lower 100K mile range. I bought a rebuilt and sold the vehicle soon thereafter.
  6. I don't understand NIL beyond a very basic level -- what exactly would we be saving NIL money for? If we have it, why not pay it? Are we looking for additional basketball players? Does the NIL "budget" cross sport boundaries?
  7. Regarding the small inverter generators -- our heat is propane (tank buried in the front yard), as Austin chose not to run natural gas to our street. (Thanks, Austin.) But, we lost all heat during the two recent freezes because the blower, dampers etc. couldn't run due to no electrical power. I assume those are fairly small loads, though. Anyone know if such a small generator could actually get such a system running?
  8. We're thinking about the rec for Lodge at The Presidio -- is that too far from the bridge for photo ops?
  9. I completely disagree. MTG is a bully. The way you stop a bully is you meet them at the designated spot on the playground and then you beat the shit out of them.
  10. Question about how you wire it up: do you go to the breaker box or do you literally plug everything into the generator (perhaps via power strips, load dependent)? There is no way I'll ever get to the power cords on our built-in appliances.
  11. Yeah, I'm not exactly tall and I've always been able to see and hear fine, even from the back of the floor.
  12. Yours is the ridiculous response, and 100% predictable. Fuck MTG, sometimes the gloves need to come off. Comer is a dim bulb and an ass, and had no idea what was going on. That was the bonus.
  13. OK, coffee experts. I've gone back to a French press, and I feel like the beans I bought yesterday (Fara Breakfast Blend) are producing a slightly thin brew. I used the coarse grind setting on a burr grinder, for "4 cups" worth. It's a 32 oz French press. Now, the packaging on the beans does say it's a "medium" roast, and I usually drink darker roasts, so that could be part of it. I can't change that now. I stirred in water just below the boil and then steeped for 4 minutes before pressing. There were no grinds in the pressed coffee, it was clean, so the grind size must have been big enough. What would suggest I do to get a more robust cup of coffee? More ground coffee? Different grind size? Longer steep?
  14. Just got artist presale tickets for Soul Asylum + Juliana Hatfield at Mohawk (Oct 17). $35 with presale code "SHIRLEY" via the Soul Asylum website.
  15. Yeah, I started to get a little map creep there. It's very unlikely we'd go that far given the recs for places closer like Muir Woods.
  16. Somebody who knows Wooderson needs to see if he's up for being named the new President of The Bongo Congo. That's a coupe coup I could get behind.
  17. I don't camp much. Lowest I recall was it touching freezing overnight west of Boerne. I was in a 15 F rated sleeping bag and I was fucking miserable. Plus, a donkey started braying a couple of hours before sunrise. I almost went donkey hunting.
