  1. Goddamnit, heard of the term "herd immunity" to try to end the pandemic and protect the public at large? And trying to head off more dangerous and potentially vaccine-resistant variants by stopping the uncontrolled circulation of this virus? This is a public health crisis, not simply an issue of individual freedom. The vaccine-hesitant types never seem to acknowledge that. This "I'll wait and see" is not a reasonable middle ground because it's literally based on nothing. No metrics for when the vaccine is deemed good enough on top of all the clinical trials and authorizations.
  2. I liked the Octopus documentary, the only nominated film I've seen so far, but the filmmakers didn't even bother to thank the octopus. Octopus and Chadwick Boseman, both dead and snubbed. Sad.
  3. Honestly, I can't imagine any difference between Texags and the Stormfront forum. Bet they all thought that military meathead who harassed and assaulted the teen just for being in the neighborhood was a hero.
  4. Spouse got the shot at the super Walmart in Round Rock, and said everyone in the store shopping was either limping or hunchbacked. Is it the gateway to gimpsville or something?
  5. They're begging remote learners to come in person to meet the whatever % metric of in-person learners TEA wants so the agency will allow us to have our captured money, it's not to do with people who have unenrolled.
  6. There seem to be a lot more positive cases in high school and middle schools in Austin than I ever recall seeing before. Some in the elementary schools too. Not cool, at a time when the district is urging everyone to send their kids back but not telling them the reason is because the TEA will yank millions of our funds if we don't hit a certain percentage of in-person students.
  7. What are you talking about? They are definitely doing something about it -- by allowing MOAR gun access. For instance, the Texas lege is advancing a bill for no-permit carry. Because I'm very sure the data shows that will lead to more good outcomes rather than bad ones. See? We're in good hands.
  8. That is a bill that needs to die a quick death. I would be enraged if I had a trans kid. Whoever wrote the proposed bill should be forced to listen to hours of real life testimony.
  9. Real question -- why has the timeline changed so much? Seemed like the consensus around these parts was Memorial Day should be a pretty strong guess of better days. Is it just the variants (which we predicted anyway)? And notwithstanding J&J, why 3 more months until everyone can get the shot who wants it? Cynical me thinks that if the benchmark is 3 mil shots to be given per day, the demand is going to run out way before the supply, and we won't get to where we want to be primarily based on refusal.
  10. oo-ooh chile posting's gonna get easier
  11. Accurate info about the Connecticut athletes and other political context for this big, important problem: https://www.vox.com/identities/22334014/trans-athletes-bills-explained
  12. Sorry but how many transgender female athletes are out there in competitive sports and of those, what proportion are outclassing all the cisgender women? Why all of a sudden is this THE big, trendy issue? Solution in search of a problem, just to kick around the "out" group some more and distract from actual issues that need tackling.
  13. Yes a 140 pound person can be a grown adult. Perhaps dickhead felt the need to compensate for his size. I'd be overweight at 140...chew on that. Now, because you disagree, how about you look up posts I've made starting from 2 years ago and neg every single one of them, like you did last time....you serious person, you.
  14. Nah have never done that for a snake, but would for a venomous one in my yard. The o-possum was just a creature I couldn't figure out how to escort out of my shower, and it worked out well with him getting a free trip to the piney woods of Bastrop. Plus my cat was real scared man, almost as scared as those cops.
  15. Yeah it's nauseating. There are people on that board that talk the way my dad and grandfather did 40 freaking years ago. And while my dad still thinks like that, he knows better than to spew it out for the whole world to see.
  16. Forgive the derail but just remembered more about that possum deal. Many years ago, and me being single, living alone. Asleep in bed and woke to hear all kinds of weird, creepy noises.Wouldn't stop. Said to cat, "CAT....cut it out. WTF. CAT" Roll over to see cat right next to me, looking at me. And still --weird noises. So I do that thing that everyone says only stupid as shit people would do in horror movies, but never in real life: Investigate. Eventually locate possum in the bathroom, INSIDE the stand-alone, enclosed shower. Call 311. They're on it. Wait. Two very bored cops heard the dispatch and decide to stop by my house to make sure Everything Is Under Control (TM). I let them in. I say, possum's in there (door's closed). Do you want to look? Nah, we're good. Come on, I say, he's right there. NOPE NAH...uh uh. These dudes were certifiably scared. To look at a possum. I noted nervous, furtive behavior regarding that possum that would lead me to have reasonable suspicion to detain them, had the tables been turned. They assured themselves Everything Was Under Control, then they left. The animal control worker showed up and was a tough as nails woman, who got the possum in a trap and headed out with him to Bastrop where his kinfolk might be waiting. Moral: Animal Control > Cops [css]
  17. Guess I'm talking to almost nobody then. Seen several pics of mutilated sneks in this thread. The coral above, for one. Maybe that neighbor who sent it to midtown was worried since it was in his backyard, though corals are notoriously shy and non-aggressive. But just call 311/animal control. I've had animal control come at 3 am and relocate a sweet possum from my shower to the great outdoors. They will come out.
  18. why kill even venomous snakes if they're not threatening you/yours? They're part of the ecosystem. Gross
  19. Come and Take muh Salisbury Steak
  20. I would add that on the other side, it's not entirely clear that even kids who seem to recover smoothly from Covid don't have long-term, not immediately-apparent effects. They've found "ground glass" lung tissue damage even in asymptomatic cases, then there's the heart inflammation and related issues that sometimes occur. My 14-yr old niece got some shitty genetics and was born with a hole in her heart and also has high blood pressure even though she's super-active and not overweight. She got Covid and I guess I'm the only one in the family who seemed at all concerned about long-term issues ...and they have her running track.... just saying, the balancing seems clear to me that even kids are better off with these proven vaccine mechanisms than risking Covid.
  21. Accurate Twitter reply: Tucker always looks like a toddler watching his parents fuck
  22. for some reason this announcer thing and his apology reminds me of that commercial about not becoming your old parents -- where they're in the home improvement store and the dudes can't stop themselves from commenting on the person with blue hair .... "we all see it...don't need to say it... BLUE!!!" ..except instead of "blue" they can't stop themselves from "black" but worse actually
  23. Coincidence? Looking at this fat bloviating grease machine makes me think he smells like green eggs and ham
