  1. Two players from Hardin County, Texas. Riggs on left and Crosby on the right. 1963 Champions! Hook’em!
  2. Bednarski is great to remember, but I’ll top him for the Longhorns’ kicker from the early 60s. Tony Crosby was from Kountze, Texas and UT’s place kicker from the 61-63 seasons. What was unique about him was that he was a bare-footed kicker! Rare enough for that, but he still kicked the ball straight-on and not “soccer style.” Most of the kickers back then relying on a straight-toed shoe that helped get the kick off/away, Tony just curled his toes upward prior to the kick and hit the ball just below his set of toes! That hurts just thinking about trying to kick a FB like that! He helped Texas win the NC in ‘63! Hook’em!
  3. TXHSFB is almost here! I have two scrimmages this week, Friday PM and Saturday AM, as a TASO official. If your players/kids aren’t “hydrating” daily, they need too ASAP! I worry more about those at the Jr. High/Middle School level than those with years of experience. It’s hot out there and a cup of water prior to practice just isn’t sufficient. All of those youngsters games are usually right after school (4:30/5:00) first KO, so they can get two games in before dark. The earliest part is also just about the hottest part of the day! Have your kids hydrate all day, as they’ll be better off/safer! Have a great upcoming season and I look forward to officiating your kids! Hook’em!
  4. As a child growing up I saw my Dad in those, on an almost daily basis, as he was a HS Head FB Coach/Athletic Dir. I always thought it was “cool” as a youngster that he decked his staff annually in all new clothes, from head to toe, from practice gear to sideline stuff for Friday Nights. When I got to my teen-age years and he wanted to dress-up my HS golf team (80s) in those Sans-a-belt shorts/pants it was a hard NO from me and the rest of the team!
  5. Anyone watching TitleTown High on Netflix - pretty good - IMO. Basically about Valdosta GA and HS football. Hook’em!
  6. I went back a week or so later, meeting my Mom for lunch, and the Manager remembered me. Had to explain to Mom that he thought we’d “raised the flag” too many times last week. Hook’em!
  7. Late 80s and a car load of my buddies went to the Pancho’s, in Beaumont, between two-a-days practices. The manager actually came by after an hour or so and said that he thought we’d already got our money’s worth today! Hook’em!
  8. Jimbo didn’t want to whiff on the slap, so he’s got that 4” one-legged vertical going for him!
  9. I’ll be you Huckleberry and say that with GP helping the defense, the Horns only lose two in the regular season. One of them is a “tight game” with Bama and the other is a WTF game, losing to KSU or WVU. Hook’em!
  10. Arkansas will always be our Enemy! At the 40th anniversary of the ‘63 Team” my Dad, of all former players in attendance, was asked to describe what it meant to be a Longhorn! In front of all, as well as DKR and Frank Broyels! Asked by the local media afterwards of why DKR chose to have my Dad speak at that banquet, he said if he’d have forty of him (Mickey Riggs), he’d never lost a game! TSB! Hook’em!
  11. Army Brat, You might have been there or at least what they used to refer as the “Knot hole gang”. Hook’em!
  12. I’ll be your history professor on that picture. My Dad was on the UT sideline for that 1962 game. His “pearly white” pants haven’t been stained yet, as a “young junior” and basically on the practice squad. If it weren’t for their October tie to Rice (of all people) they’d been undefeated into their bowl game (Cotton Bowl). They faced LSU that year and their “Bonzai Bandits” (spelling?). They practiced, of course, for the month leading up to the Cotton Bowl, but my Dad says they were Never out-physicaled or “out manned” ever, prior to this game! They only lost the game like 13-7, but my Dad said it was like a complete butt whipping! That Spring both DKR and Rooster Andrews basically locked their ass in the West side weight/locker room. Back then (60s) according to Rooster, it was all about plyometrics and Isometrics! They didn’t have the weight training of today! Dad used to say that when they were “pushing” on the West side they could feel the stadium move All of that work paid off, as the very next team went undefeated and UT’s first National Champions! Hook’em!
  13. We are really close gentlemen! My first couple of scrimmages are 8/12 and 8/13! I’ve got another on 8/18 too. Are your players (kids) hydrating now? It’s MFing HOT out there and a cup of water before practice ain’t enough! I’m only a referee and I damn near pee every hour on the hour - during the day.
  14. I “color-matched” Colt’s jersey to match the matting color for the frame. Hello CDC, all sports uniforms need to go a little darker shade -IMO!
  15. I have a picture from that Ryan Bailey game, showing a close-up of Colt McCoy (soph yr) with snow flurries during the 1st Half of that game. He actually autographed it for my son later the following summer. It’s still matted and framed at my house.
  16. Someone should remind the CU Admin of 70-3!!! Just ask Klatts! Hook’em!
  17. I still say if this game can’t be moved to a 6:30-7:00+ time slot, we’re better off as fans in attendance. A 2:30-3:00 start would be in the heat of HELL, especially on the East side, with no reprieve of shade until damn near the end! Even the West UD will be baking in the hottest part of the day (3-6). Unless it’s at night, keep it at 11:00 - IMO. Hook’em!
  18. LTXfan or Longboard Horn, Did Mical Padgett wear 45 his Fr or Soph years? I played ball with him growing up. He was a great athlete from our local area. We’re talking late 80s-early 90s, David McWilliams era. Hook’em!
  19. The best photo ever for aggy! Hook’em!
  20. Hey Emmanuel and aggy! If you get the large sweet tea from Bill Miller’s, you can get a free refill for that dry ass BBQ at your pool party! Just saying. Hook’em!
  21. We have a countdown page for Texas’ first game, but the High Schoolers will start the week prior. I have a scrimmage scheduled as early as 8/12, so we are less than a month away from gridiron magic! It’s hot out there, so hydrate! Even for the old-ass officials! I’ve already started my two-a-day regimen of running in the AM and walking in the evening. Those sub-varsity games that start around 4:30-5:00 are dangerously hot in August! I worry about those Jr High kids early on, because hydration isn’t something like drinking a cup of water before practice or a game! It has to be done all day/week, so this is one part where Tom Herman was correct! Even in my days in the Army, if you weren’t peeing “clear” at 10 AM, you weren’t “hydrated” enough! Drink water gentlemen if you’re going to be out when it’s the hottest part of the day. Hook’em!
