    New Music 2021

have given the new war on drugs a few spins now. it's a good album but leans pretty heavy on the springsteen/dylan vibe but without actually telling any compelling stories. the blistering guitars and psychedelic tinge are almost completely gone...and that was my favorite part of the band. they're a great live band though and i look forward to hearing these songs in a live setting. this album is slightly more boring than their previous 2 though imo.
  2. can't imagine they're ever going to top gimme fiction. no one buys records anymore and superstar bands aren't made based on the quality of their music. spoon is very well known by people who listen to "indie" music, but they're never going to be an arena band.
  3. friday: a place to bury strangers, kikagaku moyo, black angelssaturday: frankie and the witch fingerssunday: hooveriii, acid dad, christian bland and the revelators, frankie and the witch fingers met some great people and had a really good time. love that festival so much, didn't see a bad set all week.
  4. another ripper last night, the well opening for fuzz. it got weird when a girl jumped on stage and grabbed the mic between songs and started talking about some dude grabbing her ass under her skirt. then she wanted to stage dive but didnt' want anyone to touch her ass and eventually security took her off the stage. i was directly next to the soundboard and i've never seen a sound guy rock out so hard in my life, really headbanging.
  5. when someone posts an explanation to an obvious reference, does that mean they think they're the only one who understood the joke and that everyone else needs help making the connection?
  6. levitation kick off party last night. it had been too long since i'd seen the sword. god damn they were good. loud as fuck, heavy riffs, headbanging...this is what i'd been missing. the last couple of tours they hadn't been playing anything off of their first album but they embraced it last night. very good setlist. opening band was called nothing. not bad. heavy shoegaze type shit.

    Pink Floyd

enjoying this less 80's remix of momentary lapse really wanting to get out to LA to see Their Mortal Remains before January. know 2 people who have been and both said it was incredible.

    microbreweries

finally made it down to meanwhile brewing. all of the beers i tried were good...the festbier collab with deschutes was the highlight. the kids though, my god the kids. it's like a playground that happens to have a brewery there.
  9. it was nice having the theater quality sound...but if you can wait until later this year they're releasing it for free on youtube.
  10. stopped at burnt bean on the way back from corpus on the thursday before this list came out. the line was not quite out the door and it was slow as shit. had the 2 meat plate, ribs were slightly better than the brisket. it was solid but wouldn't wait in that line again...can only imagine how long it will be now.
  11. saw the documentary in the theater last night...maybe 10 people in there. was a pretty good behind the scenes look at the making of the album. it didn't really get into technical details, more of an overview of all the songs and a little about how they came to be...and the events in his life that were fueling them.
  12. lots of good stuff happening next week for levitation. going to concerts wed-sun.
  13. never miss a chance to see one of the greatest bands of all time. they'll be gone soon and you'll regret not going.
  14. Gomez had a couple great albums then went to shit quick. Haven't thought about them in a minute.
  15. erwin center was by far my least favorite place to see a concert in austin, really tried to avoid it unless it was someone i HAD to see. first was widespread panic 10/24/2001 and last was tom petty 5/2/2017. saw tom petty there a couple more times. zz top, tool, nin, jane's addiction, roger waters' wall tour. the sound sucked for every one of them.
  16. first time i saw this was on the wall of the bathroom at texas chili parlor.
  17. that's what they're doing the entire tour, and also why i won't be going. rush fucking sucks.
  18. i think you're overestimating UM fans.
  19. even more surprising to me is every time i read that pearl jam releases their streams on a platform called nugs.net you've been around 30 years, you can do better than that.
  20. stopped at railroad brewing co. for lunch the last time i was down there. the beers were terrible to extremely terrible but they had some surprisingly good seafood. it was also packed at lunch on a monday.
  21. nin cancelled all tour dates for the rest of the year. had tix to both cleveland shows. donkey dick.
  22. yeah saw them last night in austin and had the same reaction. it was fun and chris still sounds really good and has great energy, but the band doesn't sound anywhere close to as good as they did in the past. my morning song was definitely the highlight for me.
  23. seems a little out of character for him to be shitting on other artists who are in the exact same position he was 10 years ago. comes off a little high and mighty, not a good look imo.

    microbreweries

went to 4th tap and hop squad last weekend, both were not good but 4th tap was marginally better. oskar blues has made significant improvements to their outside space since the last time i was there, and their beer was far better than the other 2.
