  1. it's weird they played no songs from aenima and it was still a fantastic show. would have preferred stinkfist over schism as the closer but whatever. we got the pot and they haven't been playing that one much this tour.
  2. danny carey is 62 fucking years old. that drum and synthesizer shit with pat mastoletto was fantastic. intolerance, rosetta stoned, and the fucking grudge lit me up. god damn that was good. didn't expect the backlash from *gasp* standing during a tool show, but fuck all you lame ass pussies behind me. for the most part people took the phone thing seriously and that was nice. the visuals were incredible.
  3. actually it looks like maybe that was paack and it's a "supergroup" that features members of madam radar. either way, not my thing.
  4. only opening band i saw was madam radar. didn't like them.
  5. Got some very cheap tickets to see the doobie brothers last night. Found out when we got there that it was a HAAM benefit and there was a slient auction happening and a bunch of VIP tables on the floor. Weird vibe. Michael McDonald is touring with them, which means they played some shitty Michael McDonald songs. Their voices all sounded surprisingly good and I really enjoyed the 5 songs that I was there to hear. The rest of it was incredibly boring.

    Texas BBQ

if i'm in waco it's because i'm passing through on I-35. 25 minutes out of the way is not ideal...maybe not a BIG deal, but probably would prevent most people from stopping.
  8. brown eyed girl came on the radio while we were crusing around in high school and the first line my friend sings, "hey juan amigo", and he really thought those were the lyrics. still think about it every time i hear that song.

amoeba hollywood is the best record store i've ever been to. also, holy balls that's an impressive (and expensive) setup you've got there.
  10. downloaded a shitload of music from napster over the jester dorm ethernet connection and played through winamp. i think eventually they set a download limit. i had a shitload of burned cd's and i imagine some of the mp3's that i still listen to are from those downloads.
  11. each time i saw him he was aggressively begging for free booze or weed and would throw a screaming shit fit if you didn't give it to him. every year at bob marley fest he would walk around and try to hit your joint and then literally show you his ass if you didn't comply. had this conversation with friends a few weeks ago and everyone had the same recollection of him being a piece of shit.
  12. inspired by the leslie talk in the other thread...most people forget, or never knew, that leslie was a deranged asshole pervert that sexually harassed everyone he met. i don't know anyone that had an interaction with him who came away from it thinking, "damn, what a great guy and an austin legend".
  13. not many options for lunch in terlingua. chili pepper cafe and espresso y poco mas are 2 that i know will be open.
  14. i saw them like a decade ago during sxsw. not really into the whole punk thing but they were fine, reminded me of the black lips a little...definitely the garage punk variety. i remember they wore costumes and had a keyboard player that i couldn't ever hear.
  15. still drinking beer in january as per usual. pinthouse burnet has man o war back on tap which was nice to see.
  16. Rusty dusty- only saw one song but they seemed alright. Power pop. Jess helios- really awful space cadet jamband hippie shit. Gus baldwin and the sketch- garage punk. great energy and good songs, will see them again. Kenton Mackay- 90's guitar rock sound. they were pretty good, seemed like they hadn't played together much. Probably worth seeing again.
  17. free week seems less exciting than usual this year. will probably hit up mohawk or parish tonight.
  18. saw gilmour's tour in 2005 when rick wright was playing with him. echoes was sublime. i had purposely avoided looking at setlists for the tour and was absolutely floored when i heard those opening notes.
  19. still had to shit in a hole so i'm counting it.
  20. nine point draw in big bend, great site. added a 2nd solar panel and a new lithium battery to the van before the trip. heaven.
  21. spent dec 24-jan 1 in alpine/big bend/terlingua. alpine on christmas eve was dead, not even a place to get a beer. bock burger was open and once again a solid burger sold from the side window of a house. big bend was the busiest i've ever seen it, there was a line of cars waiting to get in the basin on a 1 in 1 out situation and all of the trailheads were more than full. our goal was to get as much solitude as possible and we succeeded, didn't see another person on any of the hikes we did. days were perfect and nights were cold, 21 degrees was the lowest 8am temp we saw. spent nye in terlingua. had a good time at the boathouse and watched some fireworks in the parking lot of starlight. in bbnp we did banta shut-in, san vicente cemetery, bone spring, and old castolon river road. did the lajitas mesa hike on nye day. camped at k-bar, nine point draw, and cottonwood.

they ended up refunding the order but still sending the records. apparently a lot of people were pissed that they ordered during black friday and didn't get the order by christmas.
