  1. mikal cronin and ty segall solo acoustic last night. really enjoyed mikal cronin's set, i'm a fan of his solo stuff and he rarely ever plays it. ty segall was good but i didn't totally love his acoustic style, thought he was too aggressive a lot of the time and needed to let the songs breathe a bit.
  2. i was always of the opinion she made his band sound worse when she joined them, but no one seemed to agree with me at the time.
  3. amyl and the sniffers last night at stubb's was GREAT. that band can rip and the lead singer has huge energy. everyone there seemed to be having a wonderful time...it was actually nice to not be sweaty as balls at a sold out stubbs show. ty segall tonight. sturgill tomorrow night. was supposed to go to st vincent tomorrow but sturgill wins that battle.
  4. went poking around trying to find old recordings and found this person's google drive of rare and unreleased songs. lots of good stuff in there. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/14ab45LEmq7sfN0a37nyhL4mG3pvMZQnb
  5. learned about his from mike campbell's book...this is their 6th gig ever, opening for al kooper in boston. it was recorded and released by shelter records as "official live 'leg". they only had a handful of songs at this point and were scraping to get by. later on this tour they were threatened by al kooper to turn down the intensity of their performance or get booted off the tour. tp said fuck you, we're not changing shit. all the songs from this ep can be found on youtube, there are a couple songs that never made it onto a record. U.S. version (Shelter/ABC TP-12677): "Jaguar and Thunderbird" – 2:28 "Fooled Again (I Don't Like It)" – 5:17 "Luna" – 4:17 "Dog on the Run" – 9:22 U.K. version (Shelter/Island IDJ-24): "Jaguar and Thunderbird" – 2:28 "Fooled Again (I Don't Like It)" – 5:17 "The Wild One, Forever" – 4:40 "Luna" – 4:17 "Dog on the Run" – 9:22

    Pearl Jam

the fan 2 fan tickets for this tour are just not popping up the same as last tour. every time i see a pair they're gone by the time i click on them. hopefully more action as we get closer.
  7. mike campbell has a new book, started reading it a couple days ago. i've only gotten through his childhood up to meeting tp and forming mudcrutch but it's been interesting.
  8. good 3 day run next weekend: 4/5 amyl & the sniffers 4/6 ty segall and mikal cronin acoustic 4/7 st vincent and glass beams
  9. ate at this place last night... -fried onion petals: delicious, best thing we had. -burger: extremely tiny burger for $8. barely larger than a slider, it was decent but you could go around the corner to pterry's or hilbert's and get a better burger for cheaper. seriously can't overstate how tiny the burger was, and it didn't come with fries. -picadillo burrito: almost entirely devoid of meat. i thought they had accidentally given us a bean burrito but upon closer inspection there were tiny pieces of meat in there. very disappointing. 2 cocktails, 1 beer, and the food above came out to $68, and it wasn't enough food for 2 people. we left and went across the highway to silver medal where we had 2 beers and 2 hot dogs for $16.

wish the sound was better but i really like this acoustic show from 1994. there's someone sitting in on violin for a lot of the songs and the whole thing is really mellow and unlike any other ween show i've ever heard. https://archive.org/details/Ween1994-09-01/Ween1994-09-01t03.flac

first exposure to them was bonaroo 2002. have seen them many times since...several shows at stubb's, new orleans, dallas, flagstaff, red rocks. last time was at moody amphitheater a few years ago. have also seen both of them with their respective solo projects. haven't kept up with all the drama over the years but i know the vibe hasn't really been the same since gener got sober. hopefully they can tour again once deaner figures his shit out. bartender at falling rock tap house (RIP) comped my tab once after we talked about ween for 30 minutes.
  15. yeah it's weird. the songs that don't sound like slayer are shockingly bad.

  17. it was a comment on the "fuck sxsw" post directly above mine.
  18. will never understand that take. for the past 25 years of living in austin it's consistently been one of my favorite weeks of the year.

    SXSW 2025

i waited in 1 line this year and it was because code compliance was at the venue verifying the number of people inside...as soon as they left everyone was let in. didn't go to a single event that felt full. it was good while it lasted i suppose...

    SXSW 2025

attic ted, rattlesnake milk, perennial, rickshaw billie's burger patrol, the thing yesterday. perennial was obnoxious but everything else was good. downtown was deserted as fuck, moreso than on a regular weekend. here is sixth street at 5pm yesterday.

    SXSW 2025

saw frankie & the witch fingers, native sun, wand, the thing, strange lot, throat piss yesterday. the thing and native sun are pretty similar but ns is more punk. slightly preferred the thing but they were both good. nothing was too crowded ,which was nice.
