I built my own damn stage.
would you get twice the number of people if the cover was $10? $20 is kind of steep for a backyard concert. i go to a lot of concerts and i'm not sure i'd pay $20 to sit in someone's backyard...but i'm assuming the turnout is mostly people who live in the neighborhood and not folks who are coming for a specific artist. in that case $20 is probably the way to go.

saw 2 songs of aether realm at radio east last night before "lightning in the area" stopped the show. unfortunate because they sounded pretty good. after over an hour delay gwar took the stage and did gwar things. always fun. i truly don't understand the travis county weather policy for outdoor shows. they kick everyone out of the venue and tell you to "take shelter in your vehicle". i took a fucking uber so guess i'll go stand in the street and get rained on? we never actually left the venue, and it never rained, but it's stupid to make people leave the only place where there's shelter.

the boomers are angry. this has happened to me several times over the last few years, most recently at neil young. it's refreshing to attend an arena show where everyone is standing.

Survivor 48...place your bets
no one was ever voting for joe, other than winning challenges he didn't do shit and they all knew it. he got a hero edit because playing up that emotional aspect of this season was the only way to make it remotely interesting. honor and integrity don't win survivor. one thing i didn't understand was kyle revealing that he's a lawyer. if you've kept it hidden the entire game because you think it would hurt you, then how is it suddenly a thing you want to tell everyone before the final vote? he also had to be prompted by kamilla to talk about how they voted out shauhin. glad he won, at least he was playing the game. not a good season.

Horrible way to die new stories
the first time i mowed at my current house i got attacked by a swarm of bees. they were living in a rotted out stump that had been cut to ground level. luckily they weren't the killer bees, but i still got stung in the face a bunch of times.

What's the Foo up to?
i'm sure the fact that he can go drum for 100 other different bands made the decision a lot easier. wouldn't be surprised if they've had someone else in mind the whole time, but freese was there and able to learn the songs quick because of his freelance experience.

Beer 2025: Merry Christmas Everyone, Including the Haters and Losers
went to a thai place for dinner last night and all they had were chinese and japanese beers. had a sapporo black and it was a surprisingly good dark lager. it came in a 22oz can and was the same price as all the 12oz beers. will not hesitate to order one again.

What the fuck is wrong with you, Austin?
they pinned them all on somebody. whether or not that person actually committed the crime is a different question.

Survivor 48...place your bets
what? it's a game, and this was one of the only interesting episodes of the season because they actually DID something. i welcome much more lying instead of this boring ass game they've all been playing.

they're the ween of post-punk, satirical songs that are actually good. they incorporate jazz, country, electronic, psych. they definitely don't take themselves seriously.

Vinyl
hit up a couple spots in nashville last week: third man records- this place is way smaller than I had envisioned. the section of stuff recorded live at third man was the most interesting part, otherwise they only have third man artists. they do have a lot of weird memorabilia and novelties to look at. daydream records- small shop but nicely curated and a large variety of genres. similar to blk in austin.

Hi Fi and Home theater set ups
i've had good results using an isolation platform for the turntable if it has to be placed on the same surface as the speakers.

San Diego recommendations
back in october i took amtrak from SD to LA and ended up stuck on the tracks for 8 hours with no power to the train...that means they can't sell booze and the toilets don't flush. also the windows don't open. never again.

it's not that tiny, i'd say a little bigger than stubb's. saw the flaming lips there like 15 years ago.

Vinyl
my sunday strategy payed off once again and i picked up a handful of records for 50% off. also, jack white was there casually digging through crates.

saw mogwai saturday night at emo's. they always put on a good show and they're consistently one of the loudest bands i've ever seen.

Big Bend - Alpine - Marfa - Fort Davis
They've delayed the closing of the basin until August.

Pretty sure that's the old Parish. I think it was called Mercury at Jazz for a bit. Definitely saw them there a few times.- Spoon
i had tickets for that as well. they never rescheduled and still haven't played a headlining show in austin since lucifer on the sofa was released.- Grateful Dead General Thread
jrad was fun, but don't think i would see them again. they definitely play everything too fast and there were some fairly boring jams. eyes of the world was really good and so was cumberland blues.- Pearl Jam
