  1. Well, being self-serving is certainly rare amongst college coaches.
  2. I'm definitely an old, and I agree with you that it's a really smart move. His brand is what will attract people to the program. He knows how to create interest and excitement. I bet lots of top players will want to go play for him and all of this publicity is brilliant. He will run rings around the hopeless, tired, retread coaching industry in terms of recruiting.
  3. I am a huge Deion fan and loved how he brought a fresh energy and excitement to the SWAC. So many people misunderstood his talent and leadership, as evidenced by all the college pundits claiming his 5-Star DB was making a huge mistake by going to Jackson State. (Cause it would have been so much better to have gotten half-ass NFL training from shitty, nameless Florida State coaches.) Even other SWAC coaches and players threw shade at Deion, which is funny, cause what were they doing to bring recognition to the league? Nothing. That said, I do think Deion jumped the gun a little by choosing Colorado. I'm glad they are paying big but the culture seems very different. I would have loved to see him at an Auburn or Florida State, etc. Of course, he has nowhere to go but up, so there's that. It's going to be fun to watch how he attempts to transform the program.
  4. Helobious is hardly a Westlake honk. 54 game winning streak. 3 straight state championships. Sure beats being a Longhorn fan.
  5. Even though he was a defender, Taffee came in to catch the long pass to put Westlake in position to beat North Shore in the semis two seasons ago. Then, in the state game vs Southlake, he intercepted two passes, and one of them was an incredible, one-handed affair that made ESPN's top 10 plays of the week. So yes, Taffee. Neither team is "planet-killer" good this season. Westlake has lots of key injuries, but so does North Shore. After the game today, the Westlake announcers were going over the stats of the Brennan QB and they are truly mind-blowing. He is finishing one of the greatest runs in Texas QB history (82 TD passes to 9 ints is insane) and they shut him down. Westlake picked him off 3 times. It will be a great game, for sure.
  6. I've said it all season. Guyer will take 6A D2, even if our Chaps had to play them. They are on a mission. Final score Westlake 47-Brennan 7. @Helobious, you were right, Brennan has a really high-powered offense and moved the ball all game long. Problem was, when they got into scoring position, we baited their QB into 3 ints. We blocked a punt, and forced two turnovers on downs. They must have been shocked that they couldn't score, since they have so many talented offensive skill players and averaged 48 points per game. Our starting QB is still throwing picks, but our backup comes in and just wins. I think he's better. And Lake Travis has its final revenge against our Chaps. Thanks to LT getting the home game last year in the state semi-final vs North Shore, we've got to now play North Shore in Houston at Rice Stadium. Bleh.
  7. Just made our 2nd INT. Brennan QB has 3 INTS for the season and we have 2 of them in the first half of this game.
  8. Incredible game going on in Austin: Dripping Springs 24 Vandergrift 17 Lake Travis 15
  9. Also, 7 defensive starters are injured Band instruments destroyed in storage facility fire Cheerleaders detained in Mexico due to COVID Entire coaching staff blinded in freak solar flare event
  10. Helobious, you predicted before the season that Brennan had the best chance of beating Westlake, thanks to their outstanding quarterback, (and perhaps his brother). Your prediction has come true to some extent, as they are amongst the last teams standing. As people and myself have written here, Westlake isn’t quite as dominant this year. Can you give us Austinites a scouting report on Brennan?
  11. To be clear, my Chaps’ posts are mostly pure jest. I’ve gotten into the habit of writing them this way to entertain myself and readers. We also have deep connections to the program (hence my wife receives a state ring when we win) and as people who experienced the lean years under the former coaches, we’re enjoying every minute of this unforgettable run. Glad you are a part of this group.
  12. Despite the hopelessly biased San Antonio crowd, officials, announcers, law enforcement, etc, Westlake was able to squeak out the win. Arriving at the game, hapless Westlake fans were told that there was no parking available, and families had to park across a busy freeway, and were forced to run for their lives, while San Benito fans tailgated outside the stadium. The game was marred by the passive-aggressive stadium announcer comments like, “the player ran faster than cars move in Austin traffic,” and, “the quarterback was knocked out the way partygoers get rolled on 6th street.” When we complained, we were told by stadium officials to, “grow a pair,” and “go complain to Elon Musk.” I’m not sure why San Antonians hate Austinites so much, but our gallant teams shouldn’t ever be forced to play in such a hostile environment again.
  13. I want Thomas J Henry law firm to have an injunction issued against the San Benito/Westlake game. It's very biased against Westlake for two key reasons. San Benito has had an extra day to prepare, which is patently unfair. True, we had an extra day to prepare vs both of our two playoff opponents, but those were due to weather issues, as opposed to this unsporting gamesmanship. However, the main reason is that the game is being held in San Antonio, which is blatantly biased towards teams from the RGV. San Benito will be welcomed at restaurants and the Mercado by locals who will be rooting for the plucky underdog, while anyone with a Westlake sticker on their car will be met with cold stares, and unkind comments. The game should be held in a suburb of Austin, albeit one that is south of the city. Additionally, San Benito should be forced to exercise energetically for at least three hours prior to kickoff to eliminate to the unfair advantage cited in paragraph one.
  14. @blacklab summed Dripping up well. They remind me of a mini-Westlake. Defense is tight and they had several sacks on Westlake. We moved the ball well on them but they stopped us several times on their goal line, forcing us to settle for field goals. (and they blocked one) Their running backs were nothing special against us, but one of them ran all over Lake Travis. Novosad, as Blacklab mentioned, has a great arm but can play erratically. After a slow start, he played a terrific game vs LT. I didn't think too much of Vandergrift or their QB last year, and we rolled them 70-7 in the quarterfinals. I think much more of this Dripping Springs team. I see them as a quarterfinalist or semi-finalist this season.
  15. No more reps of your posts til you share the whole pic from your avatar.
  16. Wow after all my big talk about Guyer, I guess they aren’t quite the Green Bay Packers. Actually, the Green Bay Packers aren’t quite the Green Bay Packers.
  17. That was 2018. We lost our amazing starting QB. It doomed us cause that was a really strong team (lost in the semi-finals) and we would probably would have had 4 straight championships.
