  1. Yeah we were watching LA fire coverage on the Weather Channel the other night. They did a cool demo where they applied water to a pile of sand, a pile of dirt, and a pile of dirt with ash mixed in. The sand and the dirt soaked up a substantial amount of water while water ran off of the ash/dirt pile immediately. Really good demo.
  2. I think you're probably onto something re: the size of the embers, and maybe a fine enough screen would help a whole lot. Another problem, though, is that the products of combustion of the fire outside are often hot enough on their own and contain enough unburnt fuel in them to spread the fire by themselves if they get into the attic. Even the CO in the smoke is highly flammable. When you see the fire 'licking' way up high into the flames, that's usually the smoke itself igniting. So covering the vents completely with a fire-rated material and removing fuels close to the house would probably help even more. Basically, what @Bevo & @flatdawgs said.
  3. I like the idea, but there's one important thing missing here. The result you get from that formula is not the total number of gallons needed to control the fire. It's gallons per minute. So an 1800 sf house, if fully involved, would require 1800/3 = 600 GPM to control the fire. 50% involved, you'd need 300 GPM, and so on. That formula is an estimation, and it usually takes more water for a defensive posture (surround & drown) than an offensive attack.
  4. Wrong M. I was referring to Alonso, who started with Minardi. Ocon came up with Manor.
  5. Holy shit. LMAO at these mfers with zero game at all. I lost count of the 'bodies' way back when I was still delivering pizzas for the West Campus Domino's in the mid-80s.
  6. Welp. Sigh ...
  7. Yeah it's looking more and more as if the free world is more likely to need protection from us than to be protected by us.
  8. And Minardi became Toro Rosso, too ...
  9. @ConferenceRoom & @Prepuce of Doom, I finally broke down and got a VPN sub a few months ago so I could watch MLB TV. Really coming in handy now, watching IMSA tv with no ads. Just FYI.
  10. Man, that was some great onboard action from Cheever's car just now ... but I'ma go to bed.
  11. This is kinda cool. Aston Martin Silverstone base 2021 vs 2025.
  12. Yeah it's a lot of fun. Just go prepared ... good walking shoes as always, and if you can secure a spot, an RV or even just a pickup or van in the infield would be awesome. I got my eye on the Home2Suites across the road, maybe for next year if I can get a res. He just sent a selfie of himself with photographer Jamey Price, from just before the race. He idolizes Jamey, and you can probably see a little bit of that in his photos. He must be on cloud nine right now. Here's his website url, in case any of you are interested. It's still a little bit limited, as he's just getting it up and running. Expect a whole lot more content after this race and throughout the season. Now that he's done his first big road trip on his own, he's gonna want to go to every race he can. https://nathanwood.photo/
  13. Hey now. Cut it out. IIRC the preferred substitute for that word is "Helobious".
  14. I mean ... wasn't a main complaint that the offense wasn't producing? So he fires the HC whose QB was out most of the season and elevates the OC? Water is wet. OU sucks ... Jerruh gonna Jerruh,
  15. Rue St. Catherine ... hollaaaaaa!
  16. My one trip to a Montreal strip club was pretty, uh, special. Stunning women (as there are all over Quebec in general), and they were just all over me. Good times. But I digress ... If we decide to move outside the Un-united States of MAGA, Montreal is at or near the top of the list, and not just because of the amazing, hot strippers.
  17. This. The Obama admin heavily prioritized going after criminals and still deported far more undocumented immigrants per year than dotard ever did. When dotard took office, he deprioritized criminals, starting the 'criminal immigrant' problem', then blamed it all on Biden of course.
