  1. We were all in the car yesterday and my 4 year old said, “Mommy, I just saw one of those ugly cars”. He meant the CyberTruck. Raising them right in this house.

David Simon: a legend, forever and always
  3. I don’t think the Fincher one tanked. I just looked and it had a $90m budget and made $102m in US and $232m worldwide. For a 2.5 hour pitch black movie, that’s really good. I imagine Fincher wasn’t interested and they couldn’t pull it together like someone said earlier.
  4. Who the hell were they bidding against?
  5. DeNiro and him sparring. Doesn’t get much better. Then William Baldwin just wasting everyone’s time.

  7. I know I have mentioned this movie on this thread before. It's one of my favorite "fuck it, nothing is on, I'll just watch this" movie. The diner scene and the hotel room scene are so great (for very different reasons).
  8. Ask a pro-lifer if they want to raise taxes to be sure every child has enough food. It’s pro-birth, not pro-life.
  9. What is going on with Macron? Some snap election? Seems bad?
  10. So, when are we just straight up allowed to own rocket launchers?
  11. I don’t know why people insist on fucking up good things. It’s exhausting.
  12. I'm dubious but hopeful. If Sony puts in money where it is needed and stays out of the way, could be good. Big companies aren't known for that though. Best case is probably that it's such a small part of their film business that no one really pays attention to it and it can just do its' thing.
  13. Watched "Scoop" with my wife last night. It's about the booking of Prince Andrew on News Night in the UK and his disastrous interview regarding Jeffrey Epstein (the New York financier). Definitely not essential, but interesting enough for your time. If your wife is interested in the royals and their insanity, you can get some easy points here.
  14. The CF should be allowed to kick the 3B in the nuts.
  15. Yeah, that’s been fun too. They’ve basically turned the Village theater into a repertory theater. We’ve seen multiple kids movies as a family (Snow White, Cars, Little Mermaid) and I have seen Speed and Alien (I know Alien was a larger rerelease) there the last few months. Speed and Alien back on the big screen was dope and everyone was having a great time in the theater together.
  16. Agree with this. I almost go exclusively to the Alamo in Austin (usually Village or South Lamar). I really enjoy the pre show and their effort to make it more of an event with specialty food and drink. I rarely (if ever) buy anything specialty but it makes me feel like they at least give a shit. I know it’s ultimately a money making endeavor, but I feel like the people who program and the people who work there are movie people. I never get that feeling the rare times I go elsewhere. I also enjoy the limited previews/commercials. They’ll still show 10-15 minutes of previews but I enjoy previews. What I don’t enjoy is 5-8 minutes of commercials I see at home, then 10-15 minutes of previews. I was in Houston for a few months last fall and had to use the AMC and the commercials drove me insane. Also, the preshow was just commercials or other nonsense.

    The Wire

This was a true story relayed to Simon when he was writing Homicide: Life on the Killing Streets. I can’t remember if it made it into the book (the filmed scene may have overtaken the book story in my head), but that book is great. So many wild stories.
  18. Wouldn’t shock me if Sainz isn’t interested in going to Red Bull. He’s spent years behind Mr McLaren and Mr Ferrari. He may want to be #1 on a team for a change.
  19. I think it is though, right? I know the rights are super messy, but Venom was in the post credits of No Way Home. I know Spider-Man has its own rights mess, but he has been part of the McU. Also, the YouTube link literally has Marvel in the top corner.
  20. Glad it’s available. I know the rights to this one were super messy, so there was a chance that it was going to be severely delayed. It’s great and everyone should watch it.
  21. So did the Spice Girls.
  22. Would “All That You Cant Leave Behind” count? 9 years and 2 misfires since Achtung Baby.
  23. Not sure there is a better, "Whatever, just fuck off" song than this one:
  24. So, where are we now? Two pretty big disappointments this month. I know the easy targets are the youths, but it seems like it's really the lack of adults going to movies. Take a look at the winners over the last 6 months (Anyone But You, Wonka, Kung Fu Panda 4, GxK, Apes) and they are all targeted at a younger audience. Even something like Challengers got a ton of buzz just for being a Zendaya movie. On the other hand, movies that are aimed at adults, like Furiosa and The Fall Guy are struggling. Adults just aren't motivated to go out (find a sitter, etc) when they know they can stay home and watch it in a month. It seems like an inversion of what would be expected. Dune is a little bit of a special case as it is a continuation of a big movie, long standing IP and has some massive young stars. It brings in people of all types. I guess we'll see what happens over the summer, but it doesn't look promising for the "adult" movies out there.
