Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
MuellerHorn replied to closetojumping's topic in Football
That's fine. I agree with anyone with the opinion that there doesn't appear to be a dominant team as of now. However, I disagree with the point that we learned much of anything positive (on the whole) against SJSU, UTEP, and SHSU other than Arch's passing and confidence has been trending up. Him skipping passes or missing wide open receivers doesn't necessarily need to be gauged against a certain level of opponent. He either makes the throw, or he doesn't. Nevertheless, those are not the types of teams we need to beat consistently, or assess our play against, to determine if this team is a true CFP contender, or not. I don't believe those lines of thinking need to be mutually exclusive. Yes, every teams needs to get better at this point of the season. To what degree Texas does with its issues, that's what I don't believe we can assess yet against comparable "contenders." IMO, we need to play better teams to know how we stack up. -

How about you read my response in context to your OP. You stated, "Other teams have bigger problems than we do to be honest." How can we know that based on the level of competition we've played since OSU? You paint a more rosy picture in your OP and then respond to me with "yeah, well, I know by watching we have these problems." Yeah, that's my point. We know we have problems, and those haven't been tested against further good competition. So, how can you assert "other teams have bigger problems than we do" when we haven't found out at all yet what might be less problematic against better competition? The answer is, you can't. -
Texas Hoops: Practice begins Thursday; Duke game 42 days away By Gerry Hamilton Sean Miller's first season at Texas begins in 42 days in Charlotte vs. the Duke Blue Devils. Prior to that first game as head coach at Texas, the Longhorns will conduct 30 practices in 42 days per NCAA rules. The Longhorns in year one under Miller are considered a top 25 team by some, and fringe top 25-30 team by others. They are a team projected to make the NCAA Tournament. Making the NCAA Tournament in year one under a new coach is not a given. Todd Golden didn't make the tournament in year one at Florida, Danny Hurley the same at UConn, Rick Barnes the same at Tennessee, Bruce Pearl the same Auburn (Happy retirement), Nate Oats the same at Alabama, etc.. I said that to say this, the Texas staff is excited about the roster constructed in year one. There is feeling the team could out perform the rankings/expectations. A lot of that will come down to the guards and wings shooting the three well enough, and playing off of each in Miller's system. The 2025-26 Longhorns will be the tallest/longest team in a long time on the 40 Acres, if not ever. Only one player measures less than 6-foot-3. There is also plenty of NCAA Tournament experience on this team. Cam Heide played in National Championship game at Purdue, and had a strong NCAA Tournament last year. Tramon Mark has been part of a Final Four team at Houston, and multiple NCAA Tournament teams. Simeon Wilcher was a starter at St. John's on a No. 2 seed team a year ago. Dailyn Swain was a big part of Xavier's NCAA Tournament team last year. Chendall Weaver has played in two straight NCAA Tournaments at Texas, and Jordan Pope got his first NCAA Tournament action a year ago. Texas current 2025-26 roster... Tramon Mark, CG, 6-6, Gr. (10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists) Simeon Wilcher, CG, 6-4, junior (8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists) Jordan Pope, CG, 6-0, senior (11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists) Chendall Weaver, G, 6-3, senior (6.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists) Dailyn Swain, F/G, 6-8, junior (11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals at Xavier) Camden Heide, F, 6-7, junior (4.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 39.2% from three at Purdue) Matas Vokietaitas, C, 7-0, sophomore (10.2 points, 5.4 rebounds at FAU) Lassina Traore, C, 6-10, senior (11.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists in 2023-24 at LBSU) Nic Codie, PF, 6-9, sophomore John Clark, PF, 6-8.5, freshman Declan Duru, F, 6-8.5, freshman Lewis Obiorah, C, 7-1, freshman The team ... Tramon Mark, CG, 6-6, Gr. - starting lead guard. Solid player that will be an improved offensive player in Miller's system. Simeon Wilcher, CG, 6-4, junior - has been very good since arriving at Texas. High hopes here, with much improved 3-point shooting. Likely the key to Texas playing above their ranking. Jordan Pope, CG, 6-0, senior - role player shooter and floor spacer off bench. Texas needs him to be an 11-12 ppg level scorer. Chendall Weaver, G, 6-3, senior - very key role player that should find more offensive fit possibilities playing on the move for Sean Miller Dailyn Swain, F/G, 6-8, junior - Pro player, that would be a NBA lottery pick if he shot the three well. Terrific all-around basketball player with versatility. A forward/wing that plays like a guard. Will play some big guard in big lineups, at times. Camden Heide, F, 6-7, junior - key role player and floor spacer with athletic ability Matas Vokietaitas, C, 7-0, sophomore - Has shown very good motor, hands, toughness and improved game since being at Texas. Pro player on some level in two years. Lassina Traore, C, 6-10, senior - How he comes back off the ACL will tell the story. Likely he and Matas split minutes for most part at the 5. Nic Codie, PF, 6-9, sophomore - most improved player from a year ago. If that carries over to games, Codie will be a starter or starter level player. John Clark, PF, 6-8.5, freshman - Body has improved after missing senior season. Back in basketball shape. Will battle for role minutes. Declan Duru, F, 6-8.5, freshman - One of the most talented players in the program. Can be a pro player. Combo forward with high-end vertical athletic ability. Sees the game pretty well, and makes catch and shoot three's. Lewis Obiorah, C, 7-1, freshman - will be a developmental player this season and get stronger... unless there is injury or he races past expectations. Potential starting lineups ... Three guard: Tramon Mark, CG, 6-6, Gr. (10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists) Simeon Wilcher, CG, 6-4, junior (8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists) Chendall Weaver, G, 6-3, senior (6.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists) Dailyn Swain, F/G, 6-8, junior (11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals at Xavier) Matas Vokietaitas, C, 7-0, sophomore (10.2 points, 5.4 rebounds at FAU) Big lineup: Tramon Mark, CG, 6-6, Gr. (10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists) Simeon Wilcher, CG, 6-4, junior (8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists) Dailyn Swain, F/G, 6-8, junior (11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals at Xavier) Nic Codie, PF, 6-9, sophomore Matas Vokietaitas, C, 7-0, sophomore (10.2 points, 5.4 rebounds at FAU) Texas schedule ... Note: * - projected NCAA Tournament team *Nov. 4 - Duke (Charlotte) Nov. 8 - Lafayette Nov. 12 - Fairleigh Dickinson Nov. 15 - Kansas City Nov. 18 - Rider Nov. 24-26 Maui Invitational: Nov. 24 - Arizona State Nov. 25 - Washington State or Chaminade Nov. 26 - TBD *Dec. 3 - ACC/SEC Challenge vs. Virginia Dec. 8 - Southern *Dec. 12 - at UConn Dec. 16 - LeMoyne Dec. 22 - Maryland Eastern Shore SEC play: *Jan. 3 - vs. Mississippi State *Jan. 6 - at Tennessee *Jan 10 - at Alabama *Jan. 13 - vs. Vanderbilt *Jan. 17 - vs. Texas A&M *Jan. 20 - at Kentucky *Jan. 24 - vs. Georgia *Jan. 27 at Auburn *Jan. 31 - at Oklahoma Feb. 3 - vs. South Carolina *Feb. 7 - vs. Ole Miss *Feb. 14 - at Missouri Feb. 17 - vs. LSU *Feb. 21 - at Georgia *Feb. 25 - vs. Florida *Feb. 28 - at Texas A&M *Mar. 3 - at Arkansas *Mar. 7 - vs. Oklahoma

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
MuellerHorn replied to texifornia's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
Cross-posting from Bobby's "Tuesday" post on the football board: ** Texas recruiting continues to plug along. The Horns have only offered one new player based off of senior film, Colorado linebacker Braylon Hodge. But, in true Sark style, the Horns have stayed on two of their top prospects who committed elsewhere earlier this summer. The persistence seems to be paying dividends. Receiver Jalen Lott (Oregon) and defensive end Dre Quinn (Clemson) are two targets who are very much in the crosshairs of Sark’s aim. Both are real possibilities for the Longhorns to flip. Remember all the hand-wringing over recruiting in the months of June and July? ** Also in recruiting, Louisiana defense tackle Dylan Berrymon is headed back to Ole Miss this weekend after spending last weekend in Austin. Though he says he remains firmly pledged to the Longhorns, it’ll be the second trip to Oxford for Berrymon this season. Hook’Em! -

We've played three nobodys since "that game in Ohio." We don't know shit about this team yet. Florida and OU will tell us a lot. -

You're correct, that has not been said yet. We'll find out tomorrow.

Probably because those are the teams we haven't played and CTJ's assuming they begin the nine year schedule according to the "every team will play all other teams twice every four years" note.

I don't think we can take much, at all, away from the SHSU game. They're horrendous. Otherwise, it was nice to see Arch not bouncing passes all over the place. -

Jalen Lott: The latest (Monday 10:03am CST) By Gerry Hamilton 28 minutes ago Jalen Lott: The latest Oregon verbal and 4-star++ wide receiver Jalen Lott (Frisco, Texas/Panther Creek) was back on campus at Texas over the weekend with his mom and dad. The visit wasn't about being at Texas for a game day, or game atmosphere or anything that is key in many recruiting visits. Of all the players Texas is recruiting in the 2026 cycle, Jalen Lott has been on campus and attended games in DKR more than any - and by a good margin. This was all about talking to Steve Sarkisian and staff. The communication never stopped since Lott picked Oregon over Texas. It's been consistent since about a week after the July 8 commitment. This recruitment is all about getting completely on same page in a couple of ways. There will have to be compromise of some sort, on both sides. We can report that Lott remains very interested in Texas. And OTF believes the Longhorns have a real shot here, at least 50-50, as of today. -
Sounds like a guy who is despondent about the prospects of getting fired. They're 1-3 (0-2) with this schedule remaining: @UNC @BC SMU Duke FSU @Louisville Furman @South Carolina They should beat UNC and Furman, but I could see a loss to every other team. Going 3-9 likely won't happen, but I'm hard pressed to see how they make a bowl game.

Honestly, it's a little hard to tell with the Westlake guys here. His alleged troll post and real posts are too similar.

Sir, you might be, in fact, his dad. Nice little slip up there. Also, this post is way too emotional for someone who isn't his dad. Lastly, Klubnick's performance and identity has nothing to do with his father's identity or self worth.

OU never gets called for big penalties. Fucking bullshit.

Lol yes, neither Wisner nor Baxter are playing this week -
He's talking about how much he loves James Talarico. But he just plays up his affection for all his guests, so who the fuck knows.

Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
MuellerHorn replied to closetojumping's topic in Football
Hopes and Expectations for Week 4 vs. SHSU (Friday) By CJ Vogel Texas will be under the lights on Saturday against Sam Houston State for the first night game of the year. Hey, who knows, maybe under the lights is where Arch Manning and the Texas offense will shine brightest. *** Penalties vs. Ohio State: 6 penalties for 50 yards vs. San Jose State: 12 penalties for 115 yards vs. UTEP: 7 penalties for 81 yards Keep the penalties under wraps for the first time this season. That would be a step in the right direction and something the team can build on going into the bye week. Texas ranks 128th in the country in penalties so far in 2025. *** Show Me James Simon Having read the chat and board this weekend, I feel like this is a consensus amongst most Texas fans. But freshman running back James Simon was one of the few bright spots on the Texas offense against UTEP a week ago. 16 rush attempts for 72 yards and 5 missed forced tackles last Saturday. There was extra juice in his game than the other backs we saw and I am excited that Steve Sarkisian mentioned him on Thursday as someone he is excited to watch as well. *** New Faces on the Offensive Line The Texas offensive line in pass protection has been solid. It has been far better in protection than in run lane creation through three weeks. What caught my attention from Sark this weekend was the first mention of Nick Brooks since the spring. On top of that, the inclusion of Nate Kibble and Daniel Cruz as players that Texas could deploy at some point in this game. For all the talk about building depth, the offensive woes have certainly prevented any type of depth to be manufactured. But all in all, the starting five has some clear deficiencies. Whether or not those are instantly solved with other pieces seeing the field, I don't know. But we would never know if those guys remained sidelined. So show me some new faces on the offensive front this weekend. *** Return Game Can Texas string together two straight weekends of plus returns? Ryan Niblett got loose last week twice, and of his three returns, was able to rack up 72 yards of returns. I would love to see that part of the game continue to move in the right direction considering we just don't know what the offense will put on the field. On top of that, no CJ Baxter or Tre Wisner takes away your starting kickoff return men from the opener against Ohio State. Texas ranks 115th in the country in kickoff returns with 15.67 yards gained on average of the 6 kickoffs taken out of the end zone. *** Brad Spence I have been a bit perplexed by the lack of Brad Spence I have seen this year. Now, credit to Zina Umeozulu for his play in the run game, that has been a huge plus for the Texas defense. But Spence should certainly be on the field in NASCAR packages. Through three weeks, Spence's snap count has gone – 5, 24, 13. Yet, Spence has the highest pass rush win rate (31.6%) of any Texas edge rusher and is tied for third on QB pressures despite just 19 pass rush snaps. He is a guy Texas can have success with. *** Kick Field Goals You have a quarterback and an offense that clearly is struck by a lack of confidence. Adding points to the scoreboard is a good thing. It shows that you accomplished something on a given drive. Instead of heavy helmets after another 4th down failure, your quarterback is rewarded with taps on the helmet and "good job" from teammates for adding points to the tally. That is part of the psychological part of the game that I do believe is affecting the quarterback at the moment. The scoreboard hardly looks any better at 36–10 last week against UTEP, but if you are Arch Manning, you don't have the three failed fourth down turnovers on the top of your mind, especially with one resulting in an interception. Until I see the high-flying arm that we saw glimpses of a year ago, there is no reason to pass over any opportunity to lift his spirits with the bye week waiting. Get that confidence as high as you can. -
They're going to do it - FAFO - aren't they? Cleveland has: 4 at Minnesota, who are already eliminated 3 vs. Detroit, who they just swept, yet 1st place AL Central 3 vs. Texas, who is basically eliminated Boston has: 3 at Tampa, who is all but eliminated 3 at Toronto, 1st place AL East 3 vs. Detroit, 1st place AL Central One team is reeling, one team is on a tear.

No, he was originally committed to Oregon. He flipped and signed with Texas A&M. -
There have been similar goals against her in previous games I’ve seen. She seems to be out of position on her line often. Can’t get to shots that cross her face very well, even slow dribblers like you mentioned.
-
GK must really stink this season. Texas outshot MSU 10-6. Each team only had three shots on goal. All three were goals for MSU. Woof, that’s bad for Dessieux.

Your posts have been thorough and you make compelling points. I posted my original thoughts in too much of a rush, and that's on me. Your main points are valid, and they inform my confusion regarding our lack of portal targets along the OL. Texas lost four starters (three of which the coaches knew well in advance would leave) and did not add to the room over the course of two portal periods. In addition, many of the players taking starting spots were either highly inexperienced, or have consistently shown to be erratic in terms of their performance, at best. Otherwise, Goosby is the one example of a clear succession plan. Lastly, the book is still out on all seven players from the past two recruiting classes. I realize that of any position group, OL players take time to develop in multiple ways, so I'm not writing any given player off yet. But, I don't have reassured feelings regarding our OL talent, especially given the lack of return on the current starting five + other important rotational pieces. Huston, Campbell, and Neto are all fourth-year players. Stroh is in his third year. I understand in-game experience matters, but these are all guys who should fundamentally understand what is asked of them at this point. However, at times, they look wildly incompetent and/or egregiously undisciplined. That's highly concerning. As compared to last year, the OL play has gone to shit. I understand Texas lost a lot of experience, but the drop off shouldn't be this alarming. That all being said, if Wisner had been healthy and playing, and if Arch hadn't gone MIA, I'm sure we would be much less alarmed. We'll see what happens the remainder of the season.
