Absolutely. There is a lot we can all learn from his open performance, and not just Sunday. Quite the inspirational event.

Great insight and sharing going on. Thanks to all. I pretty much stopped drinking often about 10 years ago. After that, it was maybe a few times a year I’d have a few. Typically at an event or get together. Other than that, I was having a beer every now and then, that was it. One was plenty. In the past 5-6 years, it’s came to where maybe 2-3 times a year, if that, and one is more than enough. More times than not, I get 2/3 of it down and I’m content. There’s a big family history with it, grandpa, both my aunts were bad (although socially functional), my mom some but not near as bad. When I was about 4, I was staying at my grandparent. At the time it was about a 3.5-4hr drive from where we lived. My grandma calls my mom one afternoon, grandpa was out cold on the couch, they better come get me. That incident caused my mom and grandma to put the fear of God in grandpa. He quit cold turkey. FF almost 30 years and grandma passes away. This hurt my grandpa severely. Within 18 months he was off the wagon. He went though a phase where he’d drink himself sick over many months (roller coaster going down), end up in the hospital, they’d fix him (roller coaster going up), and he’d be good for a little while. Rinse, repeat, until 9 years later and they couldn’t fix him that time. A few weeks later, he passed. My brother got bad for a while. Two DWI’s, didn’t phase him. Thankfully they were far enough apart the first one had dropped off. Both times were slaps on the wrist. Then maybe 7-8 years ago he was coming home from work (at a bar/restaurant) late at night after closing up and hanging around after for some drinks. About 6 blocks from his house, he drops his smoke onto the floorboard, ends up going over the right side curb, plowed through the corner of someones fence, taking out about 30ft of fence and “totaling” his car. Cops show up, he blows a .13, and takes the ride. He gets a good lawyer, and he was lucky he did. After dragging it out about 4 months, out of nowhere he gets a call: all charges dropped. Apparently during discovery or whatever phase, after a couple months, the city could not prove whatsoever that the breathalyzer was checked and properly calibrated. Not just that shift, but on-going for the previous few weeks. So the judge dropped it, since they didn’t take a backup blood test. If they knew the machine was having issues, why not take a backup just to be safe? Their loss. However, to be fully honest, it was probably the better outcome for everyone. Yeah, my brother was one lucky mother fucker, and should have had some form of punishment. However, that one night scared him straight. He hasn’t had a drink since that night. In the long-term grand scheme of things, it’s better for everybody. Better for him, as he quit the sauce. Better for the community as he isn’t out there driving intoxicated. Had he ended up in the system, I don’t think the same result happens, and the next time might have been fatally worse. So yeah, that stuff has weighed heavily into my consumption. As well it should. I didn’t want any part of shit like that. Thankfully I can keep it in check. I was able to walk back from that line and be alright.

Oh this is not going to go well.

Greatest character introduction ever in a Movie or TV?

Thanks, nutsack, now I have an ear worm -
Could y’all do me favor and not piss them off tonight? I really don’t want to be on the losing end of an anger bang tomorrow. 😂

Damn. His face says it all. Pitched his ass off, got burnt on the backend. We’ve had that happen a lot this season. It sucks.

Vet bills for that ain’t cheap. That’s pretty tacky though. On the flip side, if you started a call before 7am, you were on nighttime minutes for that call, even if it went past 7am. Talk til noon? Nighttime minutes. Back in those days, I was on sprint. And every morning, a couple minutes after 7am, they would cycle their towers and drop those calls. Daytime minutes now, bitch. That sucked. I even went to great lengths to measure the results, and yep, they were cycling towers. No doubt. Talk about some shady shit. Called them out on it once, with evidence, and nothing. Just a “sorry, but drops do happen from time to time. Just call back.”

I feel ya, man. I’ve been quite frustrated with our managers decisions this spring so far. A couple were understandable, because what else could you do. But a ton of pitching choices were absolute head scratchers. Pulling starters for a pinch runner, with 3 innings or better (a few times). Now don’t get me wrong, those managers are paid a lot of money to make those decisions, and they have way more info than we do looking in from the outside, but some calls you don’t need that info to realize it’s WTF time. There have been blatantly bad decisions made, before they even came to fruition on the field. A week ago with Richardson(?) maybe. First relief afterncoming up, blows a good lead and costs the game. A couple days later, same. exact. damn. thing. Granted, we DFA’d him the day after the last one. I mean hot fucking garbage. That manager didn’t know he didn’t have the juice to be a reliever? The pitching coach didn’t see it? Was the first time nerves with a big league start and a commanding lead? Why not yank that guy as soon as he started struggling? We had plenty of help available. Granted a few weren’t much better, depending on which version of their-self showed up that game, but still better than giving up handfuls of runs and loading them up. Now I know you can’t always just yank a guy at the first sign of trouble, and sometimes you gotta let them settle down and pitch. He never settled down. Bigger deal than Cole’s shoulder was him getting the DFA. Cole’s in better shape than first thought, no surgery required, probably out 6-8 weeks. Not perfect, but our starters are going to be ok for now. But yeah, sometimes you have to risk the ego bruise and mental game and yank the guy. They’re big boys, top level, and should be able to understand as a professional. Doesn’t mean they like it, of course. Other decisions were clinging to a few guys that needed a AAA reset in a bad way. They just weren’t producing for shit, and nothing was helping. I don’t think it was on-field effort, but neither were exceptional in the field to make up for it, and were JAG’s out there. (Melendez, Renfroe, and they’re still hanging on Massey for now.) We could use a minor upgrade or two, no pun intended, but maybe finally some pieces are coming together. Not sure they will get to the post-season at this rate, I thought the same last season too, but the break is coming up before long and maybe they can get competitive for a second half push to the finish line. If not, it happens. Unfortunately a lot more times for a small market team, but at least we aren’t nickel and diming the payout. Still got a bit of hardware over these past 56 years. Either way, saw some ball, had some grub, drank some beers.

Dayum. Talk like this brings back so many memories. Not that we ever got into real competitions, but the typical playing whatever group/clan you could find. Of course that was 20+ years ago, and the original. Honestly I think they still keep a server up. AFAIK, they still go by WhyGame. Me and a buddy that owns a computer repair shop put together a neat idea back then, but it never came to fruition. We were going to put together up to 4 tractor/trailer refer rigs with nothing but server racks. Then we planned to “tour” with it from city to city, with breaks, and host super huge land parties for a weekend. Like rent convention space type of places. Let some food trucks hang out outside, maybe some entertainment Saturday night from local-ish bands. Friday night just a free-for-all for fun, Sat/Sun a bracketed match with the winner of the loser bracket being the 6th spot in a 3v3 on a randomly selected map. Guests not still in the bracket would still have free-for-all access. Would have set out tables, full power for every seat, plus overhead, bring your own rig or rent one of ours. Rentals would have been purchased as an add-on, if we ran out of early sales, we might have built a few to have for walk-ups. So Fri-Sat, non-stop. Maybe would have had a small intermission overnight, but was going to play that by ear. Probably didn’t want people crashing out in random places, not a great look. But we were still deciding on that part. But that was the general plan. Tons more details, however they’re nothing but part of the big story now. First real year was looking at once a month, if demand grew then sprinkle in a few more if possible. We were also planning 4 or 5 trial runs. Maybe 200 spots, if that. Mainly to flesh out timing, procedures, equipment setups, that sort of stuff. We got commitments for about 70% of what we needed to start, but then the bottom fell out of the market and it just couldn’t get brought to fruition. Woulda been fun, and maybe could have expanded into multiple games and comps in a weekend. Who knows, but it’s fun to reminisce about now and then.

But that’s with 3 corps turds, not 2 and a goat. nttawwt, other than being aggy.

Wow. They have an actual @aol email address. I haven’t seen one of those in I don’t know how long. Granted, my wife still has an earthlink email that she’s had since the dialup days. She’s reluctant to switch, but damn, those bastards want almost $50/yr for just an email address. I tell her every year, this is the year for you to get off that shit. Transition now, and you have almost a year to sort it out. Yet, here we are. -
I think you’re right, and he was the lowest Sunday. Had to feel good after the first three days. 😂

Texas Rangers 2025: Pitching has been fire. Bats not so much.
thunderlounge replied to ztejas's topic in Baseball
Semi-true. We’ve been in a slump for a few weeks. To be fully objective, we’re in a similar spot as y’all. Bullpen has taken a lot of lumps. Slowly starting to come back, but middle relief has been sketchy a lot the last few weeks. We’ve had hits and got guys on, but haven’t been getting them around and bringing them in. We’ve also hit a metric fuck ton of fly outs/groundouts, and for some reason got on a train for a bit thinking those baseballs were made by Titleist, not Rawlings. Starting pitching has been really good, even with a couple injuries. Bringing Cameron up was good for us, he’s done really well so far early on. To the point that once we’re all back, we’re keeping him and rolling with a 6-day rotation. We’ve given up a lot of leads with our mid-relief the past month, but again, some are replacements for injuries. Bubic has pitched his ass off this season, which has been a big help. Still giving up those relief runs though. Bats have been cold for the most part in the slump. Guys just putting too much on their own shoulders and trying to be the hero and make it happen. Sometimes, you just gotta refocus, loosen up, and have a little fun. Remember what it’s all about. We’re on our way to SD now. So that’ll be just swell. 😳🙄 -

More names in the field this week than I thought there would be. Scottie with an 8 under score of 62 to tie for the lead. Quite the blatantly different conditions this week. Guess it makes for a good mental weekend, which those that played last week needed pretty bad.

Damn. Not like he just got there after this spring semester was over, either. -
Well, the right mortician can definitely cut it off, stretching it out might be out of their grasp.

Interesting. I wonder how accurate that ring is? I mean if you are in a spot where “close enough” would be ok. Like the ring says 110, and a poke says 107 or 112, something like that. Probably not close enough for sliding scale, but for general tracking? Would be interesting to find out.

Your edit tripped me up for a split second. I was like wait, I just saw this. Then saw my reply and it kicked in.

Front office has to be happy with the whole Jac situation. Get there last week after the road trip where they brought him up, and the store was loaded out the ass with Jac gear. They’ve had a few signed balls in the other store since he went to AAA, and damn… $200! Higher than the others, by a bit! (It’s for charity, so ok.)
