  1. For anyone into consumption of food before noon, Rama Jama’s at the SW corner of BDS, is pretty good but the best breakfast spot is the Waysider on Greensboro Ave at 15th St for a good Southern meal.
  2. I looked it up. 1980 at Aggieland. Final Rice 10 - A&M 6. Trailing at half, no first downs in 2d half. Rice found a way to win. I think Emory Bellard was A&M coach. Can’t remember Owls coach. Classic snagging victory from jaws of defeat game.
  3. Rice beat the Aggies in or about ‘77 AT College Station after trailing at the half WITHOUT making a single first down in the second half. AND the human dressed as an Owl jenked all the Aggie fans during pregame, strolling all around Kyle Field, bending over every 20 yards or so, bending over and flipping up his tail feathers to show this delightful message sewed to the ass of his shorts, in block aggie logo font: EATME The Owl was showered with cups and ice but he strutted proudly, all the way!
  4. Listening to Flags on the Bayou by octogenarian James Lee Burke with an ensemble cast of narrators. So far, excellent. Live me some Burke.
  5. Just listened to audiobook of Elmore Leonard book “Raylan.” Excellent stuff - Crowes, Crowders, other familiar characters from Justified, kidney stealing and selling back to original owners, racehorse owners, gambling chicks, girl gang bank robbers all kinds of crazy shit. Highly recommend. Hope to see this in a Justified flashback one day.
  6. Yer damn skrait, brutha. ”Two riders were approaching, And the wiiind began to howwwllll” Immortal song, man, guitar, production. World without end, Amen.
  7. Tetris Mama Llama, Baby Llama and I really enjoyed it. Baby Llama is a child of the 80s and we played a helluva lot of Zelda, Galaga, Qbert, Tetris, all that jazz. Very clever the way the filmmakers incorporated “primitive” 80s video game graphics and animation into actual images and scenes. The plot (supposedly true) was a ripper. Inspiring, actually.
  8. Semi related - Roger Allam who portrays DI Thursday on Endeavour, plays media mogul Maxwell in Tetris and steals the show, although covered with fake blubber and prosthetics. Didn’t know who the fuck he was. Drove me nuts until I Imdb’d his character. I knew that voice. Always enjoyed the rapport and tension between DI Thursday (Allam) and FS Endeavour (Shaun Evans).
  9. That’s as good as money. Every cent’s accounted for. These are IOUs. Better hang on to that one - $275,000 for the car!
  10. You, sir, are correct. It only seems like five miles. For someone born and raised in Tuscaloosa, my estimate of walking distance was way off. For most game dsys, I agree with your last sentence unless you are somewhere from which you can walk to the game in thirty minutes or less. I have a feeling this game will be a great one. Bama vs Texas = Unpredictable Chaos.
  11. Archibald’s is worth the trip. It’s in Northport, but with kick at six you could justify early afternoon BBQ at Archibalds. The Amtrak depot is five miles from the stadium, most of the way uphill and hot as a sizzling skillet on that day. Good luck finding a ride. Get to the Quad, only a few blocks from the stadium. Drink, eat, bullshit, swagger around wearing burnt orange, have a great weekend, win or lose. This is an historic meeting, so go! My guys need five Ws to get to even with Texas. Bama-Texas is always a trip.
  12. Still waiting for a Reacher screen adaptation to measure up to Childs’ unique no stereotypes characters. Most of the law boys have no idea what to do when Reacher Says Nothing.
  13. Archibald’s > Dreamland However, a really good juicy piece of charred steak always > bbq imho kickoff’s at 6, right?
  14. I must have missed something. Anyone, please enlighten me. What part of Coach’s private life justified these assholes ending his job?
  15. Ren said it to Stimpy but that in itself was an homage to the film in question.
  16. “You fat, bloated eeediot!”
  17. McConawatch is a thing, even in Alabama. ALABAMA LIFE & CULTURE Matthew McConaughey throws horns up to fans during movie shoot in Pell City Updated: Jun. 15, 2023, 3:59 p.m.| Published: Jun. 15, 2023, 12:05 p.m. 5 Matthew McConaughey in Pell City Ben Flanagan | bflanagan@al.com Matthew McConaughey is on a restaurant tour of Alabama, it seems, at least shooting movies if not enjoying meals there as he films “The Rivals of Amziah King” this summer. The latest sighting on McConaWatch located the Oscar-winning star of “Dallas Buyers Club” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” at the Pell City Steak House Restaurant, located at 2401 Comer Ave., right off of Highway 231. The Rev. Chuck Lackey, pastor at Calvary Baptist Church of Odenville, happened to drive by the moment McConaughey walked across the entrance of the beloved Alabama steakhouse. “Alright, alright, alright!,” Lackey told AL.com he shouted at the star, referencing McConaughey’s iconic line uttered by his character Wooderson in the 1993 film “Dazed and Confused.”
  18. I don’t care who’s on the schedule or where the game is played, if Texas brings the defensive intensity I saw last year vs. my guys, the Horns will be in every game. If the Mullet stays healthy, all Ws is a legit possibility. Hell, don’t be talking how tough the SEC is. Just roll out Bevo and give it hell. Roll Tide by the way. See you in September.
  19. More about Archibald's. Today's AL.com ranked it #1 best BBQ in Alabama (article appears below). Well worth a visit when Horns came to Tuscaloosa. The late George and Betty Archibald opened Archibald's Bar-B-Q in their Northport neighborhood in 1962.(Bob Carlton/bcarlton@al.com) 1. Archibald’s Bar-B-Q 1211 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Northport. archibaldbbq.com. Archibald’s, as we have said before, is the hallowed ground of holy smoke, the Wrigley Field of rib joints, and a pilgrimage to this modest, soot-scorched, cinderblock shrine should be a must on any barbecue lover’s bucket list. During basketball season, we make that trip at least a half-dozen times or so for our pre-game meals. Archibald’s is revered for its ribs, which are grilled over a bed of hot hickory coals in a well-seasoned brick pit that’s right behind the front counter, so guests get a front-row seat to watch the Archibald’s pitmasters in action. In recent years, they’ve added a screened porch to accommodate the overflow crowd (a good thing) and expanded the menu to include hot wings (highly recommended) and even fried catfish. Otherwise, not a lot has changed since the late George and Betty Archibald opened the place behind their home in Northport in 1962. Woodrow Washington III, their grandson, continues their legacy with the help of his siblings Lashawn, Reginald and Dalvin. (Washington also opened a second location, Archibald & Woodrow’s BBQ, on Greensboro Avenue in Tuscaloosa in 2002.) Order this: To get the true experience, we recommend the mixed plate, which comes with four or five big and meaty ribs, an ample serving of sliced pork, several slices of white bread and a small Styrofoam cup of Archibald’s atomic-orange barbecue sauce. For the full effect, wash it all down with an ice-cold Grapico. MORE: A quick history of Archibald’s Bar-B-Q
  20. Visiting at the Swamp is a most interesting experience. The aftergame experiences are legendary along the strip, well within walking distance. Gata fans, however, are NOT classy while the game is in progress. Get down there before they get their shit together. Much better in October or after.
  21. Near or at the top. Exhibit A - Cover of Time prerelease. Exhibit B -
  22. This. Plus, Robin Meade - mmmmmm.
  23. You’d think scripting would help the offense have a better chance of success on the road when crowd noise is a factor. But I have no meaningful qualifications other than watching football in person and on TV for 60+ years. Played high school ball and did so well ended up in the band. Corches, whst say you?
