How are they going to make a movie about tornados, set it in Oklahoma, and not expect me to root for the tornados?
  2. we'll always have your 2022 Texas high school football state championship picks. #neverforget
  3. my condolences to South Texas.
  4. I'm glad they are shining a spotlight on these folks. Sam is fantastic. Travis Vlantes and his staff is a major reason why Texas is so successful across all sports.
  5. just to piggyback on this a bit - being an effective recruiter obviously has many facets. To the extent that one of those facets is the relational/personality piece, Baker is very well equipped. Maybe not quite Tashard Choice level energy/charisma, but he will be very effective at that aspect of recruiting.

I hope for the best but am definitely skeptical.
  7. I still can't believe the winning chef in a semi-final served a totally inedible mousse. That was the kind of dish that gets you sent home 4 episodes in. It wasn't even a particularly difficult challenge! I know it has been beaten to death, but yikes the talent level is low this season. There isn't a single chef remaining who would make the top 6-8 of a halfway decent season.
  8. it takes an impressive amount of cognitive dissonance to say Doncic's defense has been only mediocre at times when, a few posts earlier, there is a graphic showing the three highest blow by percentages in a playoff series in the last 10 years were Doncic this postseason. https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/luka-doncics-defense-hits-shameful-levels-with-mavericks-on-brink-of-being-swept-by-celtics/
  9. Just an FYI - not exactly sports psychologists, but there is mental health support in the Department.

  11. that strike call was brutal - not even close on its own merit, let alone with the way the zone has been called all game.
  12. any thoughts on Jamie Vinson?
  13. not looking good - 13 strokes off the cut line in 14th place (out of 15) - about a third of the way through the round.
  14. Johntay Cook caused a minor stir during his recruitment when he visited Texas and said something along the lines of seeing lots of swimming trophies but not a lot of football trophies. I don't think he intended it to turn into a thing, but it did, with lots of giddy shots taken at Texas by opposing fanbases. The video in the post was a visit he took to A&M shortly after - he was mindful of his previous comments and this was his way of spreading out the mockery. He knew he was going to be asked about what he thought of A&M's trophy room and pointed out the lack of trophies (this is why he said he wasn't going to have a double standard). Much ado about nothing, ultimately. Given the context it isn't the best way of making fun of A&M the way the twitter user seems to think it is, but c'est la vie.
  15. FWIW, Catalon was a bust more due to being mentally broken than anything actively physical. Let's hope the same is not true for Lole.
  16. I think it is more likely that Oldacre is the replacement for Boutilier as developmental big.
  17. I agree - I love this place for what it is - but Surly is also prone to groupthink and runaway narratives. All in all I'd rather exist in a place like Surly than Bobby's ultra sanitized board, but he does have a point. The big idea, as expressed above, is that the two places can (and should) be viewed as complementary.
  18. after the Oklahoma St. game, FWIW.
  19. TEC, §28.0256. FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION REQUIREMENT FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION. (a) Before graduating from high school, each student must complete and submit a free application for federal student aid (FAFSA) or a Texas application for state financial aid (TASFA). (b) A student is not required to comply with Subsection (a) if: (1) the student's parent or other person standing in parental relation submits a signed form indicating that the parent or other person authorizes the student to decline to complete and submit the financial aid application; (2) the student signs and submits the form described by Subdivision (1) on the student's own behalf if the student is 18 years of age or older or the student's disabilities of minority have been removed for general purposes under Chapter 31, Family Code; or (3) a school counselor authorizes the student to decline to complete and subm
  20. Larry Bird was named Coach of the Year in 1997-98 (though point taken on how few good players make good coaches).
