Call Your Shot - Predict Texas Football's 2021 Regular Season Record
Yeah, but not a complete fail...note the caveat at the end of my original post.

Moody Center
Yeah, as someone mentioned up thread, having the half court circle centered on the observation deck is just a bit too "Whitmanesque".

Official "Fuck this stupid ass-commercial" thread
Any commercial (I'm looking at you, Dominos) that features someone yelling into a megaphone at someone who is an arm's length away from them causes a reflexive reach for the remote/mute button. Probably not the reaction advertisers want.

So, This Is Cool
Found this video earlier today. Pretty fascinating look at some Texas history that puts a bit more human touch on the topic. Got a little dusty towards the end.

Fat Gary? He gone.
Here's a conundrum...would you take a sip off that bottle if she had wiped it with that towel?

Moody Center
^^^ This. There are only two iconic buildings in the Austin skyline; the UT tower and the Capitol building. Everything else is just a generic high rise and in no way connected to the University. ^^^ And this. Now...get off my lawn!!!

The Gun Owner’s thread
Other than the Browning Hi-Power being one of the truly great hand guns ever made, it's very much a nostalgia thing for me. The BHP was the first firearm I had to qualify with in my former life while I was still working. Prior to this (early '90s), I had hated anything associated with the 9mm, because...you know, stupid European pussy round, military should never have replaced the 45ACP, etc., etc. Before I deployed for my first overseas PCS in 1994, I was required to qualify with handgun and shotgun. At that time, my organization's standard issue side arm was the BHP. I remember the first day of class, when all the desks had shiny BHPs sitting on them, and I'm grumbling internally about these "pussy 9mms", all prepared to hate these things. Then, when we were instructed to pick them up, the feeling in my hand was immediately a revelation. The BHP felt like it was custom fitted specifically to my hand. It just felt so natural and well balanced. You know how instructors say that the sidearm should feel like an extension of your hand? Well, this weapon really did feel like a part of my hand. I've never had a weapon feel as natural in my hand has this one. It carried over to the shooting range, too. From the first shot I took, through the thousands of rounds we fired during instruction and qualification, it was like I couldn't miss if I tried. I love this weapon, and I've wanted one ever since, but the Fabrique Nationale versions were very difficult to find, and when you did, very expensive. Now that Springfield Armory is making them, I'm sure they will be much more easily obtainable, and high quality, and will let me check one more box off the "must-have" list.

Yeah, me too. Just when I thought I had all the guns I needed or wanted, this thing drops. I guess it never ends...there's always one more.

Your favorite one hit wonder
Technically, you're wrong: Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze, Hey Joe, All Along the Watchtower Rush - Spirit of the Radio, Free Will, Tom Sawyer Public Enemy - Fight the Power, Don't Believe the Hype Grateful Dead - Truckin', Casey Jones, Touch of Grey That's just off the top of my head, but they all produced more than one hit.

Hocus Pocus by Focus...or was it Focus by Hocus Pocus. Anyway, kind of weird song with pretty decent guitar work which was, unfortunately, overshadowed by rather strange and off-putting, Popeye-like vocalizations. While we're on the weird European one-hit wonders, there was also that one song by Kraftwerk...something something something Autobahn something. And then there's Radar Love by Golden Earring...never understood the love for this song, but it sure was popular at one time.

Other Games Thread
Remember when the USC/Notre Dame game was must watch TV? I 'member. Tonight's game is just bad football, although Keontay is having a pretty good game. Malcolm Epps is doing Malcolm Epps things...lets a TD pass go through his hands and bounce off his facemask.

Any car commercial, whether Cadillac, Lincoln, or any other, that shows the driver of their cars taking their hands off the steering wheel just to show that the car can steer itself irritates the shit out of me. Not only is this reinforcing inherently unsafe behavior, but if someone is too lazy or disinterested in driving to keep their fucking hands on the wheel and pay attention to the task of driving their car, maybe they shouldn't be driving.

UT buys Dobie Center
Yeah...my tastebuds were a lot less adventurous in my youth. At that stage in my life, putting any vegetables on a sandwich was pushing the envelope.

Moore-Hill alum, checking in; fall '79 - spring '82. I may be misremembering this, but I seem to recall it costing somewhere around $1100-$1200 per semester including meal plan at Jester cafeteria. Meal plan included three meals a day Mon-Sat, and two (breakfast/lunch) on Sunday. Spent almost every Sunday dinner at Schlotzky's in the basement of Dobie. I was enough of a regular that they would start making my sandwich before I got to the counter because it was always the same; (ham&swiss on white with lettuce, tomato, light on the onions and black olives).

Erwin Center Concerts (you saw & ones you wished you could have seen)
May of 1981, my first show at FEC, I saw Santana. A friend had tickets, but had to cancel at last minute, so he gave me his on about the 10th row floor. Great show. Spring of 1982, I saw Earth, Wind and Fire with girlfriend. Not really my musical wheelhouse, but surprisingly good show. I also saw ZZ Top in April 1982 in what was their first Austin appearance since the infamous Rootin', Tootin' Barndance and BBQ at DKR on Labor Day 1974. There really was an electricity on campus prior to this show, and they did not disappoint. Still one of the highlights of my concert going days. Last show I attended was summer of 1983 with David Bowie on the Let's Dance tour. Had great seats towards from of lower bowl, and was hoping for a special guest appearance by SRV. It was a great show in spite of no Stevie.
