  1. Lol Now she’s a lawyer; and I can’t speak to the statute she quoted (since IANAL.) I do understand the first Amendment, which does not apply to private individuals, businesses, or the media. I get she’s a demagogue, but what’s “US Law 10101?” Binary code for wingnut rights?
  2. Are you sure the thinking isn’t that citizens have (had) no right to make the determinations they have made, based on history and current opinion? That SS, Medicare, Medicaid, and government coordinated health insurance must go, through hook, crook, and damn precedent and the Ninth Amendment?
  3. Republicans bitching about the deficit? While voting for candidates who explode the deficit? Without fail. For decades. It’s not like there isn’t a historical record to examine, and judge which party has done more to address the issue. Just shows they are bitching to hear themselves bitch.
  4. Thanks. I wasn’t thinking things through. My search found that Joe Wilson encountered the same audience heckling in 2017, in his home district, and I went with it.
  5. “You lie!” Shouted by Joe Wilson in Obama’s SOTU, 2009 Edited to correct the record. Thank you, HH.
  6. Bold move. Teach the autocratic, fascistic pov and you, too, can participate in the grift economy.
  7. Good job, Joe. We saw the two parties portrayed in chiaroscuro.
  8. Physical intimidation and threats (even virtual, it turns out) make me dig in my heels and stick out my jaw. Dumb, I know.
  9. Of course it was racism. Let’s remember that no attempt was made to create a paper trail that might have helped rejoin these kids sooner. Utter contempt for those folks.
  10. I am aware this is the political board, so I assumed you posted to make a political point, in part because no, I wasn’t aware of political animus between the murderer and victim. Just racial animus.
  11. I guess you don’t know how asylum works. Asylum seekers want to remain in the US legally, and so seek out the authorities to make their claim that they deserve asylum status. Btw, this also describes the folks Abbott and Desantis are bussing and flying to other cities. Those folks are seeking asylum. Legally. But, I disagree with your belief, as stated. Folks trying to enter the country by illegal means are summarily deported. I haven’t seen a report that claims those families are separated before deportation. Edit. Of course, if parents send their kids across without going with them, that’s a voluntary separation, which isn’t really something for which our government, acting on our behalf, is responsible.
  12. As I explained earlier, when you asked the same question, advancing the political point that racist blacks are killing white people, which is bad, and yes, racist, will be drowned out by the ongoing flood of stories about the actions of a political party. Here’s another report which belongs in this thread, as told by the National Review. In a nutshell, African-American Studies violate the law of the State of Florida. https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/desantis-ap-african-american-studies-program-violates-florida-law/
  13. Show me the post where I called you racist. I said Republicans use racism to draw in votes and suppress others from voting. I linked an article about 700 kids being reunited with their families. If you think while families would have had their kids taken from them for seeking asylum, you’re a fool.
  14. Lol I’ve my share of encounters with folks who wanted to take a swing at me. Most didn’t, but I gave them the opportunity. Those who did learned I can do more than just take a punch. Never threw one first, though.
  15. Oh, I get it. @fattyflattie you were suggesting that you’d get in my face, and back up your argument with physical intimidation. IOW, your an unbalanced hothead with an arsenal. Fuck you, psycho.
  16. In hind view, @Anastasis declamations against the poster might detract from the survey’s findings. To whit: A recent study based on the 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey found that transgender adults who received pubertal blockers as adolescents had significantly lower lifetime suicidal ideation compared to those who desired but did not receive it The first study followed 47 transgender youth and found that mean levels of suicidality significantly decreased from 1.11 before starting GAHT to .27 when assessed approximately 1 year after beginning GAHT [ [7]]. The second study of 128 transgender youth found small to moderate improvements in self-reported depressive symptoms (d = .44) [ [15]]. The third study examined 50 transgender youth at two 6-month intervals following the start of ExcEpts: and found significant decreases in depression as measured by the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale These findings extend previous cross-sectional research conducted with transgender and nonbinary adults and provide support for a significant relationship between access to GAHT and lower depression and suicidality among transgender and nonbinary youth. Among the full sample and those under age 18, receipt of GAHT was associated with significantly lower odds of experiencing symptoms of depression in the previous 2 weeks. Although our study is not able to determine temporal patterns, it is unlikely that many transgender and nonbinary youth began GAHT subsequent to this 2-week time frame. . High rates of depression, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempts among transgender youth are sometimes used by antitransgender politicians and activists to erroneously suggest that transgender identity is a mental health condition that can be treated through counseling and conversion efforts [ [27]]. These individuals ignore the impacts of gender dysphoria and minority stress [ [28]] and suggest that GAHT is not necessary if transgender youth can be counseled into accepting their sex assigned at birth. The findings of this study demonstrate that GAHT could be a potential mechanism by which mental health and suicide disparities among transgender and nonbinary youth may begin to decrease. Furthermore, existing evidence suggests that regret is low for gender-affirming care interventions, with one study of 55 transgender adults who had received gender-affirming care as adolescents finding that not one experienced regret [ [29]]. Unfortunately, efforts to legally restrict gender-affirming care for transgender and nonbinary youth may negatively impact mental health through two separate but linked pathways. The first is by directly prohibiting medication that many of these youth rely on to reduce feelings of gender dysphoria. The second is by increasing minority stress through negative public attention and harmful rhetoric debating the rights of transgender and nonbinary youth to live their lives authentically. As such, efforts to address the mental health of transgender and nonbinary youth must also acknowledge and address the cumulative risk that antitransgender political statements and legislative efforts may have on their well-being. Of course, our self proclaimed, and totally not narcissistically motivated, though given to demeaning rhetoric, expert is soon to explain why these medical researchers are only acceptable to dolts as trustworthy sources.
  17. In support of folks, who, like myself, read this survey ( which evaluated 13000+ individuals) and assumed it was meeting a higher standard of evaluation that @Anastasis recognizes,) consider these findings: A recent study based on the 2015 U.S. Edited to point out that the R tactic of fucking shit up and then pointing at fucked up shit to validate their claims is applicable. Just saying.
  18. Okay. Basic premise is valid. Have you interacted with others on this thread, whose posts you deemed inaccurate to the point of spreading disinformation? If so, I missed those. Again, I admit this isn’t my area of expertise. Surveys, that examine 13,000+ people, and reach the conclusion: “Findings support a relationship between access to GAHT and lower rates of depression and suicidality among transgender and nonbinary youth” are untrustworthy, because? And a layman who doesn’t understand the distinction is an absolute dolt, exactly why? Your insecurities were obvious to me a long time ago. Recently, I learned they are indicative of narcissism. I am undisturbed when learning I am wrong, as it is a part of learning, and then attempt to make amends, if necessary. I admit that if I have mischaracterized you, I have done wrong by you. The proof is in your hands. I will carefully consider your explanation as to why I am a dolt.
  19. @Anastasis, I get that narcissists demean others due to their own insecurities. So, I hope you get help with that. I take offense at being indirectly characterized as spreading medical misinformation. I have offered numerous studies that support the contention that GA medical care lead to improved mental health outcomes, and I will link to yet another, more extensive study that reaches the same conclusion. A study that seemingly, to me, though I will yet again admit I am not adept at medical analysis, meets the complex controls you require. (Eschew informing in favor of contempt, if you so wish). Feel free to dig into this study, though you seemed disinterested in doing so with the last bevy of studies I linked that were easily obtained through a quick search. I will again point out that the authors of the studies have the same qualifications you esteem above the ability to comprehend a summary, but I get where you are coming from. It must be difficult for a layman to challenge your expertise. Expecting others to value your conclusions over other conclusions, from equally qualified sources, is a function of your narcissism. I get that. As you have admitted, long term mental health descriptions are complex. You ignored the link that described societal pressure affecting outcomes that were initially 100% positive. You also ignored my contention that fascistic suppression is ongoing in ways that could improve the future of our neighbors who face these difficult circumstances. Under the premise that you are Catholic, I will remind you that the Pope proclaimed Catholics must, must, do all they can to defeat such political oppression. So, it falls upon you to refute each study that concludes that GA medical care improves the lives of transgendered human beings. You chose that role. I acknowledge you linked a study that agrees with doubts you have, but I have yet to discover a peer reviewed study that shows GA care does not do what the consensus believes. 20. Following up on societal stigmatization, a two minute video can inform, and enlighten, and conceivably improve mental health for the most at risk demographic among us. I’m sure the contrarian posters on this board would support this approach, don’t you think? It is fair to say Republican politicians would say that this is “grooming.” Effect of a Brief Social Contact Video on Transphobia and Depression-Related Stigma Among Adolescents Findings In this randomized clinical trial of 1098 adolescents, a significant change in attitudes was found toward transgender youth only in the intervention groups, especially among participants who self-identified as cisgender and/or of heterosexual orientation. As anticipated, a significant reduction in depression-related stigma was also found across all study groups. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2789426
  21. This Dutch study examines the issues you raise regarding stigmatization affecting quality of life post transition. This was a small study, comprised of 20 individuals, ten trans men and ten trans women. Notably, and I will have to summarize as the format does not copy and paste easily, in that all the participants reported feeling happier psychologically, post transition. They were less depressed, had more peace of mind, and fewer suicidal thoughts. And, the more support and acceptance they received, the more lasting these improvements were. Their headwinds came at the blowback of a segment of society. Almost as if stigmatization makes human beings depressed, steals one’s peace of mind, and can lead to despondency. So, the mental improvements gained were abraded over time by the blowhards of intolerance. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/340678902_Experiences_with_stigmatization_among_transgender_individuals_after_transition_A_qualitative_study_in_the_Netherlands

  23. This is badass! Researchers have successfully split seawater without pre-treatment to produce green hydrogen. The international team was led by the University of Adelaide’s Professor Shizhang Qiao and Associate Professor Yao Zheng from the School of Chemical Engineering. “We have split natural seawater into oxygen and hydrogen with nearly 100 per cent efficiency, to produce green hydrogen by electrolysis, using a non-precious and cheap catalyst in a commercial electrolyser,” said Professor Qiao. A typical non-precious catalyst is cobalt oxide with chromium oxide on its surface. “We used seawater as a feedstock without the need for any pre-treatment processes like reverse osmosis desolation, purification, or alkalisation,” said Associate Professor Zheng. “The performance of a commercial electrolyser with our catalysts running in seawater is close to the performance of platinum/iridium catalysts running in a feedstock of highly purified deionised water. The team published their research in the journal Nature Energy. “Current electrolysers are operated with highly purified water electrolyte. Increased demand for hydrogen to partially or totally replace energy generated by fossil fuels will significantly increase scarcity of increasingly limited freshwater resources,” said Associate Professor Zheng. Seawater is an almost infinite resource and is considered a natural feedstock electrolyte. This is more practical for regions with long coastlines and abundant sunlight. However, it isn’t practical for regions where seawater is scarce. Seawater electrolysis is still in early development compared with pure water electrolysis because of electrode side reactions, and corrosion arising from the complexities of using seawater. “It is always necessary to treat impure water to a level of water purity for conventional electrolysers including desalination and deionisation, which increases the operation and maintenance cost of the processes,” said Associate Professor Zheng. “Our work provides a solution to directly utilise seawater without pre-treatment systems and alkali addition, which shows similar performance as that of existing metal-based mature pure water electrolyser.” The team will work on scaling up the system by using a larger electrolyser so that it can be used in commercial processes such as hydrogen generation for fuel cells and ammonia synthesis. https://www.adelaide.edu.au/newsroom/news/list/2023/01/30/seawater-split-to-produce-green-hydrogen
