  1. I'm sorry for your loss. My aunt had bile duct cancer. She was treated at MD Anderson, but it seemed like it was once complication after another. She spent the better part of the year there in-patient and later to hospice where she died. It is indeed awful.
  2. Nobody should store anything in an attic in Houston. I was given attic duty when we were cleaning out my mom's house. I went from Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation nostalgia to throwing boxes down the attic stairs frustration, and back again. Aside from the plastic garbage bag disintegration, it should be noted that no kind of tape will adhere to a cardboard box long term in a Houston attic. The other tough thing was that my parents came from a generation where there were lots of portrait type pictures of the large, framed variety hanging in the house. I kept a couple of the smaller ones, particularly ones of my dad from the 60s, a couple of which I hung in my office, but most of them were simply digitized with my phone and, then, thrown away. I'm sure the frames had some value, but ain't nobody got time for all that. When it came to furniture and other antique accessories, the smaller stuff generally has more value because it's easier to transport and sell. Apart from vintage barware and a bunch of cool glass ashtrays I kept, the only two big items I bought from my mom were a 9.5'-long hifi console I've posted pictures of elsewhere on the site and a really cool Chinoiserie-style breakfast table and chairs. I would have loved to have kept the Kittinger Lotus Flower table, Moroccan swag lantern, and "Ancestor" painting, but it was enough already.
  3. For the record, the quote is attributed to me, but the statement is from Brisket's post.
  4. One guitar? My 1990 "N9" American Standard Tele in Vintage White, which still smells like pipe tobacco from its first owner.
  5. SIAP Judge in Fulton County just told the parties that all 19 defendants would not be tried together, but if any decided not to waive his/her speedy trial right, that defendant could be tried on 10/3. I have suspected that the try them all together idea was floated simply to force the defendants' respective hands on the speedy trial issue since Trump always was going to try to delay things. If so, well played.
  6. I dump online order confirmation emails into a folder. Sometimes, you get free cookware out of the deal.
  7. I bought it at WalMart online. I searched my email and found the email receipt for the order.
  8. If you have a local "vintage" store, call them. They'll come over, pick through it, makes some offers, and haul stuff away. Some antique stuff is cool. Some of it is just "brown box" furniture.
  9. For you and Elvis. We went through this with my parents' house full of Hollywood Regency furniture when my mom sold her house. Personally, I love the stuff and bought a few of the cooler pieces, but limits were placed on me by my better half (probably for the best). It was all pretty unique, in great shape, and there still are people out there with money to spend surprisingly enough. There's a website called chairish.com, which has all sorts of expensive furniture on it from private sellers all over the country. I'm not sure what is involved in setting up an account, but it would be the right forum. In Houston, we worked with Lyn Huck Estate sales. She's a bit flaky in communications at times, but they came in, moved all the stuff off site, and sell it off over time after conducting the main sale over the weekend. What they couldn't sell, we donated to charity. She takes a good chunk, but my mom netted a pretty good chunk over what we could sell the stuff for privately. I'm sure there are similar setups in Dallas or Austin. You might message her on Facebook and see if she can recommend someone in Dallas or Austin. A realtor worth his/her salt in those large markets probably knows of someone as well doing something similarly. It's a pain in the ass. Good luck.
  10. The backwards hookem? Earl has been known to do it that way as well, you gonna send him a sternly worded letter? Lol Cosigned.
  11. A perfect circle. I've posted it upthread, but for anyone inclined to read it, this is my friend's moment-by-moment account of getting out of the North tower from the 85th floor. Link
  12. GIVE EM HELL! GIVE EM HELL! MAKE EM EAT SHIT!!!!!
  13. Late getting back, but that's the weird part of it. The beneficiary ought to just have to prove his own identity. Anyway, sorry for the loss, Texilla58. Good luck to your buddy's BIL.
  14. Do you have the power for the Chromecast plugged into a USB service port on the TV or straight to a wall power source?
  15. With lodge, on the website, it says to send them a letter, which is what I did. When I hasn't heard from them, I followed up with an email. I think they put the two together and got it handled. I'd mailed them a copy of my receipt. When I was emailing with them, they never asked for it. Cuisinart has some enamel-coated steel stuff in addition to some nice enamel-coated cast iron. My experience with my higher end Cuisinart cookware (and their warranty service) has been very good.
  16. Are we talking about the half-brother's SS card or the Departed's? If it were I, I'd get in touch with the Ins. Co. and figure out what they need. Death certificate shouldn't be hard to get. If it's the Departed's SS card, that might be a little trickier, but as the beneficiary of the policy, and with no intestate assets, if the half-brother is a reasonably functioning individual, providing the necessary info to get the policy benefits probably isn't the hardest thing in the world. I'm betting it's not a huge policy though, given the circumstances. This (the ins. policy) likely wouldn't be part of the estate.
  17. That's part of it. But a buddy of mine saw them in Chicago a few years ago before Charlie died and said it was the best show he'd seen them put on. But Steel Wheels definitely was better than Voodoo Lounge as far as the shows I saw.
  18. Same opener in Houston. I enjoyed the show, but 1989 was better overall, I thought.
  19. Yes. Just a small chip on the interior. I have no idea how it happened. But they were great and sent me an email today asking me to pick the color of my replacement.
