  1. @Llano Estacado plus rep for the Marie Sharp’s
  2. Have you looked at the policies themselves? There has to be a beneficiary- that may be listed as “My Estate” or similar, but one has to be listed. You mention they were your dad’s and “ rolled over”. Might they be annuities or might they be the proceeds from your dad’s life insurance that your mom put into an annuity? They’d look like an insurance contract and may even have “policy” or “contract” In the title. But, just like a life insurance policy there will be a stated beneficiary on an annuity contract- maybe just her estate but something or someone will be listed. If you can’t locate that, the executor will need to contact the company and determine who is listed and proceed as such. In the event her estate is listed, the proceeds go into the pot and the executor will distribute based on the will, etc.
  3. Rent it yourself and reimburse a couple of friends who also rent it and then trash their online ratings/reviews talking about the crazy neighbor next door who keeps bringing the cops to the door and interrupting the parties. That's got to be cheaper than moving. You could make your police reports that you hear an ongoing assault rather than a noise complaint. It's hard to distinguish sometimes. One might also post some signs in your yard pointed at the neighboring house that you report underage drinking, drug use, and noise violations to law enforcement.
  4. The Casull is a great round. Sort of mainstreamed the bigger bore handguns in the late 90's after it had been simmering for a few decades......when Ruger adopted it in the late 90's it took off and lead to other developments like the .480 and the .500 S&W. Perfect choice for bear country and your Ruger Alaskan is carried by tons of guides up there.
  5. I’m all for extra barrels and more gear if you just want it but read up on Buffalo Bore’s founder’s comments on their hard cast bullets, hot loads, and factory barrels vs. after market barrels. I think his articles are in their FAQs, if not it’s easy to google. I shoot BB and Underwood hot loads and have zero issues. Buy and enjoy!!!!!
  6. When fresh in camp yoou can also cut larger sections of backstrap and then slice it thin, long ways. You get larger thin strip more like a CFS. i also cut mine out into filet sized steaks. If I want to grill/sear they are ready to roll, but if I decide to fry I cut an X half way through, lay it open and pound out to equal thickness. That way I can have one cut vacuumed and frozen and use it different ways.
  7. Twicehorn or another lawdog would be able to advise on the ins and outs but maybe there is a way to take this into the legal realm without spending a bunch of money. Small claims court, self-filed suits, or even one of those annual legal representation plans through which you could bombard them and become a hassle. Becoming a legal and a financial thorn In the side of the owner is what it would take. Obviously they are more motivated by money than being a good neighbor at this point. If you could find a way to take some of that incentive away by forcing them to spend money or time defending themselves you’d create consequences that would alter their behavior. Or, I hear there are a few E-bay execs who seem good at intimidation and are looking for jobs now. They might be a good at getting your point across.
  8. I love my G40. I have the MOS system with a Vortex sight attached, but only because I hunt with it. It's very comfortable to shoot once you pick the right back strap to fit your hand. If you want something a little more carry friendly, look at the G20 - Smaller but good capacity. Even the G29 would be better than a 9mm for your application. You'd loose some velocity b/c of the shorter barrel but its still a formidable option. Unless you are handloading and pushing the edges, the standard barrel is fine. You can can get relatively hot penetrating / dangerous game rounds from Buffalo Bore or Underwood and feel good about them. I also have 10mm revolvers - None of the above suggested by other posters would be a bad choice. Hell, buy one of each!
  9. Keeps people from messing with the fire once it gets hot!!!!
  10. Last time I was in Houston- pre covid- I met a client for an early dinner at Eunice. They had a pretty amazing happy hour special on appetizers and their raw bar was included. It had a great selection of oysters from various places and we partook generously.
  11. Hats off to the first Neanderthal who popped one of those suckers off a rock and said “Here, hold my fermented groul, y’all watch this.”
  12. Anmoseek and gunbot.net are great . Use them a lot, but in this environment their data has been a little off. Lots of searches showing as in stock are coming up as dry holes on the click through. Stuffs going so fast their data isn’t keeping up.
  13. SG Ammo just emailed a new available list with 5.56 , 9mm and 7.62x.39 among others. some folks were asking about bulk Ammo some days back. Act fast. It won’t get any better heading into November. SGammo.com
  14. I know several mariner types and even some old Eagle Scouts who can't stand seeing a rope without a knot in it. They tie shit for fun / out of habit. I also know there are ignorant assholes among us. Until / unless there is video shown of the rope being tied, those of us out here reacting to news coverage will never know what the intent was at the race track. Some dolt may have thought they were playing an innocent prank, someone may have been OCD about ropes and tied a loop handle as they were standing there one day, someone may be an ignorant bigot, or someone may have been trying to sabotage NASCAR in the wake of the flag fallout. All one can hope for at this point is that more good than harm comes out of the entire debacle.
  15. I've tried several times to replicate GW Fins smoked sizzling oysters with moderate success, but never quite the same. They have the advantage of heating the shells under a salamander which is hotter than a home broiler and I like to think that's the difference. Or, maybe it's just that they're better at the process. Simply is usually better unless you are trying to hide the oyster from someone who isn't sure they like them. Little herbed or garlic butter of your liking and maybe some good Parmigiano-Reggiano to finish. Rockefeller seems to bury the flavor of the oyster too much but I've never turned it down. When the weather cools off I love them in a cream stew. Having them dropped into a very hot gumbo at the time it is served is always great. Haven't done it in a while, but we used to get a sack once or twice a year and just sit around and shuck and eat. Takes a while to get in the groove and if you have more eaters than shuckers that gets old for the shuckers.
  16. I don't see that we have a thread dedicated to oysters or their kinfolk, even though they show up on a lot of these threads. Just had some chargrilled by a new neighbor (fast becoming my favorite neighbor).... handed over the fence - I was expecting traditional grilled, but he topped each with a small amount of homemade pimento cheese and then he crumbled up some Best Stop cracklins on them and they were incredible. Might be the best I've had in a long time. Whatcha' got?
  17. It's a pretty difficult balance to be both skeptical of everything you read/hear and yet open minded to anything being possible at the same time. Painting one's self into a corner by presupposing what individuals or groups on either side of any argument are capable of in these times is pretty easy.
  18. Bravo D.W.
  19. Broken pelvis as a child. I was afraid I wouldn’t be allowed to play ball so I didn’t say anything that day and limped to bed early. My Mother found me whimpering in my sleep the next morning. Hopped up on a dorm bed and had a forgotten #2 pencil point break off basically in my taint. Graphite point is still there I guess. Worst pain was being on the losing end of a collision with a base runner in college. I bit through the front 1/3 of my tongue to the point it was just holding on by the bottom flap and a few thin strips that weren’t severed. Caused a nice fight while I was out cold. Couldn’t talk for many days and had to have some speech therapy afterwards. Tongues heal remarkably fast but beyond the initial pain, the phantom pain as the nerve ending healed over the next few months was like having someone hit my tongue with a surprise 120v periodically throughout the day.
  20. "I'll pay you when you pay me. To whom should my attorney address future correspondence?" They'll go away.
  21. Yep - I keep 2 Ozarka Easy-Pour bottles in the fridge in my office for during the week and 2 at home for weekends. Each bottle is 3L (101.4oz). I keep one on the ground beside my desk and suck on it throughout the day, then replace it with the other when the first is empty. Usually I'm done with one by noon and the other by five. On Weekends, I keep a 44oz Styrofoam cup of ice in my truck or outside if I'm working in the yard and pull from it constantly. Keeps me full, never feel the need to snack (I only eat two meals a day really) and I don't ever feel lethargic in the afternoons.
  22. I love those guns. I bought a 1905 (.32) and a 1907 (.351) at auction last year and turned around and sold them with the hopes of reinvesting the gains into more pristine models. I haven't found ones to re-buy yet but I'm always looking. I tapped out of an auction a few months ago on a 1907 that was marked as "Property of Folsom Prison". It got too rich for my blood but I would have loved to have it. Those rifles were mainstays for prison guards and railroad security, among other LEO types of the era. Such a cool look and simple action. I need to get re-energized on my search.
  23. As was mentioned above - take a look at your water consumption as well. It varies, but many if not most people have settled into a state of semi-dehydration and don't know it because it just feels normal. Try upping your water intake and see if that helps as well. The good news is that there are no real downsides either. Several studies have shown that the average ideal water consumption for an adult male is 3.5 - 4 liters per day. Most people fall short of that and for many, especially if active a number above that amount is needed. I'm probably to the other extreme, but I found my sweet spot is over 6 liters of water each day. I keep two 3 liter jugs in the fridge and finish them both throughout the day. Then I also pick up some fluids through coffee and tea or water with meals. I started that several years ago and the effect has been dramatic. YMMV but give it a try.

  25. My FIL used to be a serious distance runner and he swore by tart cherry juice for recovery and cramp prevention. you might consider talking to your internist about metabolic workup based on your activity and symptoms . Could be something in your bloodwork that could be identified.
