  1. Which would just be still more evidence for them being the frauds they have long been.
  2. Forgot about those two...I guess it went Blanda-Stenrud-Andersen-Vinatieri-Tucker. Here's something that makes me feel older not just than dirt, but God. I can remember opening a pack of football cards and getting a George Blanda....Decades later, I saw a Happy Days rerun where they were talking about football games that weekend, and one of them said something like "The Bears can't win with that old man Blanda at Qb."
  3. Jan Stenerud and Vinatieri were the GOATs for the previous two generations of kickers. Tucker will be hard to surpass. He has broken the mold.
  4. An aggy kicker who looks like R2-D2 at that... This...anything anybody does anywhere that makes the Houston notOilers look bad is alright by me, and if it's a Longhorn legend doing it, so much the better.
  5. There is a difference in looking ahead and a confident focusness on destruction.
  6. 52-24. I am usually not one to call out sandy vadges, but....there are lots of nervous Nellies with sandy vadges on this thread. This was a mediocre Frog bunch coming into the season and now they are banged up. Fat Pat's lost his fastball. SMU resurrected the Pony Express at their expense yesterday, and with talents far inferior to Eric Dickerson and CJK5H, and our running back room approaches that historic level of badassery. (Seriously, Bijan is that talented, and our backups collectively are equal to CJK5H). We've got a fucking gamer running the O and a coach who shows no inclination to turtle. We score at will in this game and the roaches won't be able to keep up. A couple of big turnovers or a special teams play early and the bloodletting will be on. Degüello. No fucking mercy.
  7. Yeah this will be your Dale Gribble "sheeple" crowd. Carlin is their Mark Twain, another king of misattribution.
  8. I still think Buechele got hurt in the Cal game. Some blitzer nailed him in the ribs / armpit area and his deep ball wasn't the same after that.
  9. Tiff Treats's Edible Arrangement sounds like a porno
  10. Looks about right to me. An unholy mudholing. SMU gashed them for 350 yards and two scores on 6.7 yards per carry -- I think Bijan, RoJo, Robinson, Thompson, and Brooks might be able to match or exceed that.
  11. You could never pencil in a W with Terrapin Tom, with us or at UH. But even if we won two of those, yeah, we probably don't move on. Who says Covid has been all bad?
  12. fuck, that is nightmare fuel i had not yet considered.
  13. I hope so, but the fire is lit now. I think they would burn money after the end of another 8-4 season next year if they thought they had the next sure thing. I would also hope Traylor would be too smart to take that gig. If I were him or his agent, I'd be saying wait for us, or go somewhere like Ms. State, and try to work your way up to Bama, Florida, etc.
  14. He will fail even harder the next time. He does not have the makings of a big-time D1 coach. Or even a small-time D1 coach. The dude has major, major personality flaws. Do we remember anything coachlike from his tenure? Mack had a few moments behind the podium. There are whole books of Coach Royal's wit and wisdom. Even Charlie had his moment, warning us about Twitter. With Herman, it's just him acting like a 15-year-old punk, mocking that asshole Mizzu QB and flipping off the camera on LHN. What other coach has done shit like that? Allowing that film of him trying and failing to smash that locker is another failure. His IQ might scrape above 140 but functionally he was highly regarded. One of my aunts is almost 70 and has the mind of an eight-year-old and she would know better than to do some of the shit he did. The dude is special. Yeah he might be in MENSA. That does not disqualify you from being "special."
  15. My worst fear. I had the same one about Briles when they went with Sherman, I think, for the same reasons UT has passed over Traylor. Unless aggy knew about the rape or the roids or both, like either would bother them.
  16. Yeah I knew it wasn't going to happen but really his resume wasn't all that different from Royal's aside from a couple of years as HC of what was then a middling Pac 10 program. I get that people don't roll the dice on $30m contracts without evidence most people see as more plausible than what he presented; I just question why we think the evidence guys like Traylor pile up isn't considered more plausible.
  17. If I was Traylor, I'd take a job like Ms. State, minimum. If Dan Mullen could make that work, he could too.
  18. I was hoping he would be the only survivor of the Strong firing...Fire err'body but the tight ends coach / special teams coordinator or whatever he was and make him the boss man then and there. i said so and was pissed on from every direction mainly because Traylor lacked the experience of fucking Tom Herman. What does experience even mean if it doesn't translate to simple maturity? Is winning a few big games with an elite small-college QB that you didn't recruit and a man among boys DT (that you also didn't really recruit) more impressive than building a juggernaut dynasty smack dab in the middle of our most fertile recruiting grounds, and doing so in such a way in which even your rival coaches don't have a bad thing to say about you? How many times did Jeff Traylor's Gilmer teams lose games equivalent to Herman's UConn, Navy, and SMU chokes? It would have been a very bold move but it would have paid off and justify our swagger. It would have told the world, "We don't make hires based on consultants and received wisdom. We hire great coaches when we see them."
  19. I am coming around to this idea that as long as certain people let you know that something is racist, and you should feel bad about it while they ride around the block in a victory lap on their high horse, they don't really care if the thing is done away with or not. Esp with something as broad-brush racist as the Eyes -- something that came out of a racist milieu but in itself is not actively racist by any understanding. So now they've had a chance to preen and educate us on what simpletons the rest of us are, they have moved on to other targets, some more worthy, many probably less. This is what young hotheads do. And in time they mature and many mellow and learn to save their ire for actual issues of the sort discussed in cr. And in truth the report it generated was fascinating, and the whole thing has served as a reminder, that yes, UT's past was very, very racist, but that does not mean you try to erase every aspect of it simply because it was born in those times.
  20. There are still people on this site who as of two weeks ago were seriously trying to say we'd have been better off with Mack vs Arkansas and in all the years in between. You could write a terrifying dystopian novel on that very subject. Strong sucked on the field but he reversed the slide in recruiting and got rid of the least talented potheads. Herman maintained the recruiting and brought a flash or two of misbegotten faith. If we were stuck with Mack through all that....man, some of the recruiting nerds tracked all the guys Charlie pulled offers from in his transition class, and the guys Mack had lined up for the next year or two, and it was a fucking nightmare parade of busts and head cases. He would have had us scraping Kansas levels of terrible if he'd somehow been magically granted the last decade to continue fucking shit up. Honestly I can't figure him out. He was never a great coach but he was damn good for a decade or so and he's spent the last decade destroying his legacy with assholery off the field and incompetence on it.
  21. If I am Traylor I am waiting for SEC.
  22. Herman on the headset: "Holy shit this Maryland pass rush is like the Red Army at Stalingrad!!!! None of us will make it back to Austin alive!!! Why did they send us out here?"
  23. I'll add in Jeff Traylor's big comeback win on the road in Memphis...my hope is we win three NCs with Sark who then goes to the NFL and Traylor takes over for a 12-year run featuring seven NCs. Read it here first. Pull this post back up in 2039.
