  1. This was driven home with the pandemic. When it was a threat to everyone, the money was found to create a vaccine for a novel virus within a year. You think there aren't multiple other diseases that couldn't be cured with the proper funding? But instead, we have to sit around and hope our benevolent overlords Gates, Zuckerberg, Bezos, Musk, etc. decide they want to throw some money at a problem so they can be considered a brilliant philanthropist. Good thing we let the rich continue to consolidate power by buying politicians! Fuck LaPierre. Fuck Fox News. Fuck Abbot and Cruz and all the others.
  2. I'm about to have my first kid, literally any day now. What a disaster of a country we are bringing him into. At least it gives me something to care about and a reason to fight for a less fucked up state/country, however futile that may be. Fuck.
  3. Are you not at all concerned about rising temperatures and more unpredictable weather patterns decreasing arable land and sea level rise displacing tens of millions of people? It seems like those could possibly be factors leading to global famine. And when it comes to freedom, what kind of freedom do the largely poor people who will become climate refugees have when they are forced to abandon their homes, despite not being significant contributors to the problem? Kind of seems like we are robbing them of their freedom, seeing as we, the US, are responsible for more emissions all-time than any other country, much of it well after we knew of the consequences.
  4. Wow, the US has a ranked men's player again? I haven't paid too close of attention outside of semis and finals the last few years, but has there been anyone besides Isner who had been ranked recently?
  5. Semi-related to the thread, Pachinko has been a good watch on Apple tv. Multi-generational story of a Korean family starting in Japan-occupied Korea. I believe the showrunner is actually Korean-American.
  6. Goddamn, when are you ethnic people going to get your shit together and vote 100% against Republicans so us white folk can absolve ourselves of any blame for consistently putting the worst people in office?
  7. I'm having a biracial kid in a few weeks. Who should I tell him he can be attracted to? Other boys will likely not be an option by the time he grows up. Does he get to affiliate with both Asian and white women, or is he limited to only other asian-white biracial women? Maybe he's just shit out of luck because he shouldn't have been created from such an unholy union to begin with.
  8. I hope you're armybrat old, because those places are all going to be underwater soon.
  9. These are fun to read. Would be more fun if there was a chance that any of these shitstains would suffer consequences for their actions.
  10. Dry here in 78752. In my 18 months back in Austin, I've learned to push back the predicted arrival of storms by 12 hours, if they occur at all.
  11. Get your binocs ready, fellas. The migrant songbirds are going to be dripping from the trees as abundantly as the rain drops come Tuesday morning.
  12. Who needs clean water, or breathable air, or bearable temperatures? Those are privileges nowhere specifically enumerated in the constitution!!!
  13. What a legacy to leave behind. A single senator with the cards falling in such a way that he can single-handedly significantly curb climate change, but he refuses to do it. In a body of enormous pieces of shit, (and, I assume, some good people!), he is truly one of the most grotesque.
  14. Or interesting to walk around there. I've only vacationed there once, but for a seemingly laid-back people, they are so aggressive behind the wheel. Pedestrian right-of-way? LOL!!! You better move your ass across the road, because they are hitting the accelerator when they see you.
  15. You're photos make me really wish that my wife got sent out to Alaska for a year in grad school. It nearly happened, but alas, the city pulled out of the hat was Decatur, TX. The LBJ Grasslands were cool and all, but millions of acres of wilderness to explore seems slightly cooler. Could have added some sick birds and mammals to the life list too.
  16. In order to contribute something relevant to the actual thread, here is sunset at Reimer's Ranch.
  17. Yea, I went out and got northern shrike and fork-tailed flycatcher, as well as mountain plover, but those seem to be annual. Travis Co was super slow this winter.
  18. FW nature center is a great place for birding and hiking in general. I'm sure you fan find a bunch of other critters there to photograph besides birds, but I've had barred owl, roadrunner and prothonotary warbler there (boardwalk in summer). One of the only spots in the area for pileated woodpecker too, although they're tough to find. Village creek drying beds in Arlington is the #1 spot in Tarrant County as far as # of species. Lots of waterfowl/wading birds depending on the water level, and in the summer you can see a ton of Mississippi kites that must breed there. It does not smell good, fyi. Other than those two, River Legacy Park (E. of Collins) is good for forest birds, particularly during migration, and North Holiday Park is good for waterfowl and wading birds.
  19. I moved to Austin 12/20 from FW. Was in Houston prior to that, so just checking off all the major Texas metroplexes.
  20. If y'all need a non-photographer birder to help you find some good birds, I humbly offer my services. Although you seem to have no trouble finding good stuff on your own, Doug.
  21. Negged for posting that of all possible NBA duos.
  22. The 7-day case average ever so slightly ticked up in Texas this week. Hopefully it's just a tick and not a trend upward again.
  23. It sure would be satisfying watching that arrogant fucking smirk disappear from his face as his armed forces shit the bed.
  24. Dude, you don't have to hear this shit from the fucking liberal MSM. Trump happily says this shit to anyone who listens. How fucking stupid are you?
  25. Hey, Leo has donated to lots of climate causes so that absolves him of any hypocritical behavior, right? It's straight out of the Sack playbook. I'm shocked you don't approve.
