  1. This one has become a bit more emotional to me over the years. I have distinct memories of being told my grandfather died when I was 12. He was battling cancer. I worshiped the man. Lord I cried the day he died. Since I have 3 boys, I can't help but think of the day my own father will pass, and how devastating that will be not just to me, but especially my sons. He truly walks on water in their eyes. Best granddad anyone could ask for. He's 75 years, and although he takes care of himself, he's at the age where anything can happen on any day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCVw8Qjeg84 Shit, looks like it won't embed automatically. But it's "He Walked on Water" by Randy Travis.
  2. Shit, go to Crested Butte. Every business in town has job openings. You may have to camp in order to afford lodging, but you'll be employed.
  3. This one has always done it to me. No particular reason other than I love my wife and kids so fucking much and the thought of leaving them alone just kills me. This one never really stirred much emotion (other than thinking it's a beautiful sing), until I attended a funeral of one of my wife's friends. Actually, the father of one of her friends who was killed in a car accident years earlier, and she became really good friends with the father after that. I had met him a few times, but I had no reason to really get emotional at the funeral. He had lymphoma and held on for 5 years, which means he had plenty of time to think about his own mortality--and to plan his funeral to a T. No one knew what the plan was except the people involved (his wife had no idea what was planned), and for part of it he had prepared a slide show of his favorite moments in life with "In My Life" as the backing music. Holy shit--not a dry eye in the house, and 15 years later whenever I hear this song, it sends me back to that day. I hug my wife extra hard whenever I hear it. Last one for me is this one. I can't imagine leaving my family, and it makes me hurt to think about a dad having this conversation with his son.
  4. On paper, we really should have a pretty good defense. There's some talent in that 2nd group. I assume Sark will eventually figure out how to fit the square peg through the round hole when it comes to running his offense (albeit I hope the season isn't lost when he does figure it out), but I'm cautiously optimistic about our defense.
  5. Exactly. Killing the pace of play because of stupid penalties makes the game difficult to watch.
  6. "And neither do the 3 after our wedding"
  7. My wife is a Derm PA, which means she knows enough to be dangerous in other specialties that she learned stuff in school, and she spent a couple of years in Family Practice. She starts pulling out all sorts of crazy rare diseases and cancers when the kids act even the slightest bit off.
  8. Similar. My wife congratulates herself for driving 5 miles out of the way to save 3 cents per gallon on gas, but has no problem spending $400 every month from fucking Athleta. Or going to Crate and Barrel, which is about a 30-40 minute drive from our house, and buying shit we don't need, with the intention of taking 3/4 of it back after getting my opinion, and then complaining that she has no time to do anything?
  9. Legit LOL from me. My now-wife tried to have that conversation with me fairly soon into dating. My reply was, "Do you really want to know? I mean REALLY? Because then I'm going to ask you, and I'm going to ask which ones I've met, and then you'll want to know the same thing, and then it will just get awkward. How about we just admit we're both not virgins, both have made some questionable decisions in that department, and we really enjoy sex together." To my surprise her answer was, "Yea, that's a better plan." Happy married for 16 years now.
  10. Psycho Rocks. Never in a million years will I do that one. Very familiar with the Taylor and that stretch below the dam. The fish have their PhDs in fly identification. I've had really good luck on the East River this trip. We're heading up Spring Creek to the reservoir today. Will stop and wet a line along the way. Also want to scout potential camp sites for future reference.
  11. Sorry I'm just now seeing this. I've been in CB for 7 weeks, with 1 more to go. I've biked the mountain just twice, but have done a ton of the trails in the area. And my 2 oldest boys (9 and 7) have been doing bike camp on the mountain twice a week. They are now officially better than me. Curious as to your comment "they don't have a ton of runs". What are the other mountain bike destinations in the US in terms of downhill runs? I've always thought the CB mountain had a good number of runs with a wide variety of difficulty, but I've never been anywhere else to purely mountain bike. So I don't have much to compare to. I'm extremely fortunate that my in-laws own a condo up here, so there's never really a debate as to where we go in CO each summer, but I'd still like to know for future reference, guys trip, etc. BTW, where did you camp and fly fish? Been doing quite a bit of that over the past 2 months as well. Well, the fly fishing at least. Too bad work gets in the way, but I've managed a few 3-4 day weekends.
  12. That's either a parody, or that dude is related to Bubb Rubb. He can tell a damn story.
  13. That scenario makes no sense. KU basketball is worth 10X KSt's entire athletic department. Why would KSt be included but not KU? And why would Tech not be included but TCU and Baylor would? Small private schools add nothing.
  14. Seriously never gets old. I sent this to my 65 year-old uncle in SC who is a big time USC supporter, donator, seating ticket holder, etc. He wrote back "that's the funniest thing I've ever seen."
  15. "While the SEC has not proactively sought new members..."
  16. Ted Lasso is a Van Halen fan. 5150 was the name of the first Van Halen album with Sammy.
  17. To be fair, below was his statement. The first sentence is far off, although TCU was 8-4 that year and started 8-1. In 1984, Kenneth Davis rush for 1600+ yards with 7.6 TPC average. So yea, he would probably be a Heisman front runner going into 1985. I have no idea to his fate or TCU paying players. I swear, some of you people are fucking autistic with the level of post scrutiny. Understand the point of the post. Don't be Rainman. That was a movie btw. Look it up while counting the toothpicks you dropped on the floor.
  18. I had forgotten that line. But now I remember I had to explain it to my wife.
  19. He's led an incredibly interesting and diverse life. His wikipedia page is fascinating.
  20. Wearing the hood? Maybe they don't feel like putting on sunscreen, but still don't want melanoma?
  21. Seriously, though, don't come to Crested Butte. Nothing to do here that 13-15 year old boys would love, unless they're into fishing, hiking, camping, mountain bike riding, hanging out at lakes, etc.
