  1. Damn, La Mexicana had some absolutely killer flour tortillas. Used to go by there all the time when I lived closer to town.
  2. That would imply to me that for the 20-30 schools that you suggest, there is basically a level playing field moving forward. Right now you have some schools that are earlier to market with plans, and others that are continuing to pay under the table, but in 2-3 years, most schools should have their shit together and NIL dollars looking pretty simliar between schools. Then it gets back to more traditional recruiting pitches--the school itself, resources, location, development, etc, etc. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking by me because we should do fairly well when NIL is normalized.
  3. That seems like an important detail to remember before you start a shark attack story
  4. I've thought that many times. They just introduce a chokepoint by making people order at the counter. There has to be a reason they did it that way, though. Maybe it's another level of complexity or cost to have the Alamo model? Or worried they wouldn't have the waitstaff to handle ordering, running food, closing tabs, etc. My wife has met several people that were managers at various restaurants in the Dripping area, and they said it's REALLY hard to get good cooks to want to work out in Drip, because they want to live in Austin. The commute is too big of a hassle. The consistency of food in the area suffers because of it.
  5. This article could also be posted in Cloak Room for a different conversation, but I decided to post it here. Just another data point on why I will force all 3 of my sons to hold a job in the service industry. Learn how to treat people as well as how to react when being mistreated. Also, good to learn the lesson of "people generally suck" as early in life as possible. I can think of a few good candidates I've met from my time coaching and volunteering at DSYSA that could be the culprits mentioned in the article. perspective from Dripping Springs EVO bartender
  6. Why? He inherited the worst team in the NFL, which went 3-13 the year before he arrived. 1st year: 5-10-1 2nd year: 8-8 3rd year: 11-6 Why would that warrant a firing?
  7. Great news--I haven't lost money in the market today!
  8. I seem to remember they did a REALLY good carbonara. Not the garbage most places try to pass as carbonara which is spaghetti sitting in a bowl of cream sauce. But the type where the sauce barely coats the noodles and you hardly notice it's there.
  9. Not from my childhood, but when I was first out of college I lived off 2222 close to Mopac. Just south of Northland on either Balcones Dr. or Parkcrest was a really good Italian place. Nothing fancy. Just a neighborhood place without a lot of fuss that reminded me of the place where Michael Corleone shot Sollozzo and McClusky. they did the basics really well. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it. This would have been late 90s-early 2000s. Anyone know what I'm talking about.
  10. Ethan, do I have a mark on my face? No, I thought I hit you in the shoulder.
  11. Felt pretty good about this. Fun game. Thanks for sharing Wordle 201 4/6 ⬜🟨⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜⬜🟨⬜ ⬜⬜🟨🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  12. "Live, local, direct, coming to you free of charge from..." At one point he was a master story teller. I used to think he made stuff up because it seemed unreal that any one person could have so much random shit happen to them. But then I realized his stories weren't THAT crazy...he was just really good and telling them and pulling out the humor.
  13. Dale was an institution, but I found him really difficult to listen to over the past few years. He always had a habit of beating a dead horse or whining, but it became unbearable. Days without him were a breath of fresh air. He always liked to say he didn't care if he got fired and would act like he may not sign a new contract. Maybe it's best that decision was made for him. I do worry about his mental health. The show was a form of therapy for him. Taking that away cold turkey can't be good.
  14. They had 39 scholarship players for the game. This isn't an issue of not being as "deep" as previous years. This. Pretty amazing they kept it as close as it was.
  15. It was a foolproof plan
  16. RCA Commercial Electronics. From what I can tell mainly commercial TVs and LED Lighting. And probably more importantly a 70k sq ft manufacturing facility. Can find any recent revenue numbers, but ones from a few years ago were pretty healthy due to a large UPS lighting contract. Saw reference to that one contract being worth $50M. I'm not sure how this fits the rest of their portfolio, other than simply adding revenue and hopefully profit.
  17. Summary of this weekend
  18. Eyeing the day game against Rice on Dec. 22 as one to take my family to. Me, wife, 3 boys aged 10 and under. Sure, I could go through the UT Ticket office and pay a nice $20 service charge, but my assumption is this won't be a well attended game and there will be tickets available outside the arena before the game. I'll be looking for Mezzanine seats. Think there's any risk of not finding 5 tickets for face value or less before the game, or should I just suck it up and go through the ticket office?
  19. I have a bunch of family in SC, and they LOVE Beamer. They will be devastated whenever he leaves. My uncle swears they found their own Dabo, and I always remind him that if that's the case, he won't be around long enough for it to happen at USC.
  20. Pretty sure we use the already ground stuff.
