  1. French Quarter Grille is good. I have a vendor that likes to take us there once or twice per year. I was introduced to Louisiana Longhorn by a bona fide cajun who says he liked it, so that's good enough for me. I haven't been in several years though. As for making it better than a restaurant, well, yeah. That's true pretty much across the board for any type of food that you care about making. My brisket is better than every commercial place I've ever had, which includes all of them in Austin and Central Texas. It doesn't mean I want to do it myself every time I want BBQ.
  2. Look, Texas A&M has a QB rated above Texas, ya stoopid sip!
  3. Despite any culinary upgrades in Austin, I don't really see any other restaurants that have replaced it for its style/value, which I think was the point of the discussion. There are more expensive and more upscale places but there still aren't a lot of NY/NJ style American-Italian checkered tablecloth-style places in Austin. And carb coma is the standard reaction for any of those kinds of places. And yeah, I've seen fitlump there.
  4. Andiamo is good Italy-Italian but I wouldn't call it "cheap" or "affordable." Despite its humble strip mall location, it can get pricey. But I do like it quite a bit. Reale's is the American-Italian style and is relatively affordable and overall pretty good. My New Jersey next-door neighbors approve of it. When did that happen? I haven't been in a couple of years but it was still good then. If it's declined, I'm sorry to hear that.
  5. Something already going around my kids' high school, #2 kid is home with it right now. So are a few of their friends. Didn't take long.
  6. Conan's Savage, IMO
  7. But, like, not at the same time, right? Be careful with that shingles vaccine, it has absolutely wiped out several of my friends for days at a time. Plan some extra recovery time just in case.
  8. My freshman year was Fall 1990 so I thought we had "turned the corner." That was a special year. January 1, 1991, on the other hand...
  9. Yup I lived in Moore-Hill my freshman year, football games were so easy.
  10. As I recall, this was a set for some sort of outdoor theatrical production. The people in the crowd are the audience. Ah found a reference, it was a production of Anton Chekhov's play Ivanov, in Amsterdam, several years back. https://camperrevamper.wordpress.com/2011/04/03/repurposed-caravans-and-russians-tragedy/
  11. Oh I have my own RV. I party like that NOW.

  14. Here in the US, the general public won't touch the stuff after October 31st. So brewers have started releasing it earlier and earlier to expand the sales window. I used to feel the same way as you, but now I'm just delighted we can get more great beer, earlier in the summer, than before.
  15. Well there are salads, and then there are salads.
  16. Salad is what food eats.
  17. Wish that asshole had been caught in the middle of the ensuing dogfights, and mangled.
  18. Ha, just noticed Bee Cave. I mean, of course!
  19. Nothing at my house. Zero inches since the second week of July. A few lucky souls but in general, the Austin FF is doing work now. Past 2 weeks:
  20. No thanks, I insist on buying all my yachts new, and I'd certainly never settle for anything under 150m.

  23. Man I think you're underestimating what demand has driven prices to, even for the shittiest of old Broncos. Here's the closest shitty one I could find, that's anywhere near your price range. $7,900 from a private seller in Houston. He says it "runs good" but does not mention A/C. The odometer is broken. https://houston.craigslist.org/ctd/d/houston-1995-ford-bronco/7872314004.html
