Same thing here. Back in 2007 I saw a picture of someone camping in an Airstream directly on PINS. We were about to have our first kid, and we'd been tent-camping for years, but I figured there might be a better way. I've always loved vintagey stuff and mid-century-modern stuff and was fixated on vintage campers. There are lots of cool Shastas and other white-box canned hams, but my eye was always drawn to the Airstream. So I did a little research, convinced my wife using that picture of the Airstream, and in June of 2008, drove to Birmingham, AL to pick up my hard luck but survivor 1963 Airstream Overlander.
I restored it, then we outgrew it, but the idea is still alive and we still go as often as we can.
Anyway, that picture above is about 4.8 miles down the beach. It wasn't all that busy and we had probably close to a quarter mile all to ourselves. We hung out there for a few days, then we popped off the top and the doors of the Jeep and took it another 15 miles down one afternoon and let the kids look for shells. They drove most of it, the 15yo with a learner's permit was in heaven.
