  1. It would be easier to just say that listening to a libertarian publication is stupid. The last place I'm looking for good critical thinking analysis is Reason. They'd be publishing piece after piece attacking the New Deal, Social Security, and Medicare if it existed at that time.
  2. Holy shit, I'm guessing she doesn't slap him upside his head?
  3. The zealotry that you claim he has is something that is shared among a lot of young people in this country, especially those who aren't white (millennials are the most diverse group and zoomers probably will exceed that). The idea that we should prevent anyone from earning a billion dollars in this country is not an extreme view of people I know who are around my age (mid-30s and younger). This board's average age is probably in the low 50s, there is a noticeable difference even among Democrats here in comparison to other boards I post on where the average age is closer to mine.
  4. Well past time that ICE and CBP be abolished
  5. Not really if you pay attention at all to the ideas and politicians that Millennials and Zoomers support.
  6. For everyone one of you who bitches about BT being too extreme, are you just dumb as hell or completely ignorant of how much wealth inequality there is in this country and how it's continually getting worse? Like this shit is going to lead to pitchforks at some point, it is not sustainable.
  7. Anyone who makes a billion dollars has not done so ethically, it's pretty simple. Gates was a ruthless piece of shit early in his career, he's just getting news and media idiots to help rehab his image now.
  8. Bernie has been railing against billionaires for the past 40 years? I don't think he cares what they think about Warren.
  9. I love that Bernie has outright contempt for these billionaires whereas Warren just says we need higher taxes.
  10. The ever increasing growth of wealth inequality is going to make opposing UHC a losing stance, whether in 2020 or in the near future. It's crazy to think you can address systemic issues that are leading to poverty in the US but somehow selling universal healthcare is going to just be too difficult.
  11. Yep, in the past 10 years they've very much tried to revitalize downtown and recently tried push it to become a tech hub specifically for cyber-security. Something like $100 million was spent funding this center that opened last year. We'll see if spending money really has much of an effect like Bates mentioned.
  12. So many of the people who hate the government hate that it doesn't work for them, these are generally minorities and very poor people who likely don't have great health insurance in the first place. I'm very skeptical that the fear mongering about "big government" is going to have a stronger effect than a very accurate portrayal of their current system which has already left them in dire straits.
  13. "America, do you think it's fair that only people over 65 get Medicare? Have you ever stuck with a job because you didn't want to lose your health insurance? Do you trust your health insurance company to always cover your procedures with no questions asked?" You're coming from a angle where people hate Medicare which is absolutely not reflected in actual polling, these are GOP talking points and not rooted in actual reality. https://www.asaging.org/blog/medicare-reflected-public-opinion https://www.healthcaredive.com/news/seniors-love-medicare-but-are-pessimistic-about-its-long-term-future/548721/
  14. Right, the messaging isn't hard or complicated. Just constantly run ads of "Do you actually like your insurance company? When was the last time you trusted them to actually cover you if you needed medical care?" Regular people don't trust insurance companies, they just are scared of not having insurance.
  15. Not sure when you were last down there, but compared to when I was a kid they've pumped money into trying to make downtown somewhat livable with a little bit of a scene, they've spent a ton of money on trying to build out cyber-security center that works with Augusta University. The problem is that people, especially young people, aren't really moving to the Augusta metro and instead going to Atlanta and other nearby areas.
  16. Pretty sure you're talking about Chattanooga. I was just up there for a small tech conference and was very impressed with the scene, it shocked me. Very old brick buildings being nicely repurposed for new shops, companies, and restaurants. This fits right in with what @Celery Man posted about mid-sized cities attracting millennials seeking home ownership that isn't grotesquely expensive for first-time home buyers. My hometown of Augusta, GA is desperately trying to do the same but isn't have as much success. http://www.chattanooga.gov/it/nooganet/nooga-net-guest-wifi-access
  17. GOP: All newborns will be immediately aborted!!!
  18. Yeah, waiting for Nate Cohn to tweet again, but Wasserman does this for a living and I'd be shocked if he got it wrong.
  19. GOP is hopefully fucked either way. If they continue to suck Trump's dick then they'll lose the suburbs, if they try to distance themselves and entertain ideas of removing him from office then they'll lose their inbred moron base.
  20. Kentucky has had several Democratic governors though so it's not too shocking to me, but the margins that Bevin won by in 2015 being completely flipped in the suburbs and even rural areas should hopefully give McConnell a fatal heart attack.
  21. Typed that wrong, it was called for the Democrat Beshear
  22. Race has been called for Beshear!
  23. You are completely overestimating this shit, people may be scared of change because they think everything is going to collapse but no one I know likes their insurance company. Almost everyone who has had any kind of extenuating circumstance beyond going to a PCP has an awful story about dealing with their provider. The sooner private health insurance companies lose virtually all of their power, the better, and so many of us aren't afraid of what will happen or how much private specialty groups will lose. https://www.modernhealthcare.com/article/20180625/NEWS/180629957/fragmented-markets-inflate-healthcare-spending
