  8. Belmond roof top tonight, a speakeasy actually. You go to the hotel ask for the roof top they act like they can’t help you then they walk you two blocks down and unlock a door on the street and through a hotel garden and to the roof. food was great, fried pork dumplings, tuna tartare, hot wings lol, mushrooms with potatoes, avocado puree, corn puree and chipotle mayo, Peruvian chocolate cake, and a to DIE FOR Mexican Can Franc.

    Tennis Thread

We’ve played clay in Colorado and now Mexico it’s great. There’s a def grind to it in competitive tennis and the ball can bounce funny for sure but I’d play clay exclusively if our club had it. Westwood has a handful of clay courts, Austin tennis academy too (Spanish oaks). Don’t know about Austin country club, but no public courts. We are going to check out the bougie courts just outside of town tomorrow.

So I still prefer singles but that might be changing. I’ve been devoting 15-20% of my practice to doubles skills and doubles theory/strategy. Recently I shifted from focusing on my shots to focusing on court positioning first even moreso than singles. Follow the ball is an easy thing to say but once it clicks and the spot to be becomes automatic all of a sudden the ball comes to you or they hit a great winning shot. I really feel like my doubles game is rapidly accelerating based on this change in focus and perspective. we are in San Miguel de Allende and playing lots of tennis for a few weeks. I’m all of a sudden 6-1 in doubles sets. Today I was the only player on the court undefeated. It’s an incredible feeling. Winning is pure happiness. I remember when I was winning at 3.5 and the last 2-3 years at 4.0 have been a total slog to gain traction and experience but man what a feeling. It’s strange but athletic competition brings real meaning a depth of purpose and it’s just rec league for fun. Amazing really. here are our courts. Purely Mexican in appearance and in hospitality. The court owners are amazing folks.
  11. Pretty sure new viruses breed in those campgrounds. But we’ve been before staying in airbnbs and loved the music.
  12. Rosewood view food was ok but the kids wanted to go back for a Fourth of July buffet and it was surprisingly good.
  13. Miscellaneous street pics mostly el centro at least one is San Antonio and one is Guadalupe hoods
  14. Pics from a street art walk in the Guadalupe neighborhood. The pistachio pastry roll at Bakery Sucre was so good!
  15. We also ended up finding our gym and tennis community. Courts are pure Mexico but so is the hospitality, we are already friends with the owners.
  16. Hanks New Orleans happy hour / taco Tuesday is a happening gringo spot. Food was meh but the atmosphere was hopping. zumo roof top was great, views great didn’t snap a pic of the Parroquia not sure why, no food pics either. The guac with pork belly was great, I had the short rib sopes very good.
  17. Best dinner so far, not even close… Smokey mezcals were so good, basil drink was fun too. Octopus, corn truffle, cauliflower and short rib tostadas wow.
  18. For those of you who wait for our cistern updates … July 4 after about an inch had fallen and as of yesterday….
  19. I always round up or down to the nearest whole number.
  20. Even if only 20% are your kinda people thats still a substantial number. You can find your people. Birds of a feather and all of that.
  21. not a place for a tranny to call home that I can assure you. kidding aside (or maybe that's not kidding, I dunno I digress), I love it there, and with a hospital and enough going on, it's a place I once had an eye on for retirement. loftier goals and now politics have me thinking out of state, but if you like the out doors (like I do), you love Texas (like I do), you can co-exist with sane conservatives (like I can) then with the exception of summer heat it's could be a great place to slow down. I'd rank it over Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay for sure, I might over Fredericksburg too but that's debatable based on what you want. It's wildly different than the communities close to town like Lake Travis. For me, whatever my love may have been for the hill country it's been replaced by a need to leave. So it's Colorado, California, or Mexico as the top three right now (no particular order).
  22. I‘m shocked sending unsolicited, long cat, fund raising text messages that start with a deceptively familiar greeting like “hi troph, how are you?” wasn’t on the list of things constituents want from Dems.
  23. Stalled out over the Llano. 3-4 inches in the bullseye.
