    RIP Dickey Betts

As much as I venture into modern music, I was raised on guitar-based blues-rock and always cycle back to it. Betts was one of the giants for me. I have an mp3 of a live version of In memory of Liz Reed that I don't even know where it came from, but it's probably one of my top 5 recordings all-time. Master musicians improvising at the highest level possible. RIP
  2. I felt like his talk show style just got old and tired (at least for me), but this looks like it could be worth watching.
  3. The $109 Tux from Macy's came in yesterday. My old expensive tux on the left and the new $109 Macy's slim-fit Tux on the right. Not tux shoes, and the new pants aren't altered yet, but yeah, that's worth a hundred bucks to me. I feel like MC Hammer in the old tux; there's probably 50% more fabric in those pants.. I'm sure in 30 years we'll look at the current slim-fit suits with the same dis-like, but live in the moment. hat tip to OP.
  4. Basically Jobs refused to have surgery when they found the cancer by chance very early on and it was still treatable. Alt medicine didn't do diddly and when he did go for the surgery like six or nine months later, it had spread and was no longer really treatable. Similar to the King or England who is treating his cancer with "herbs and potions". Good luck with that. As for Dr. Bynon, the transplant doctor in this thread, I have a gut feeling that it's not going to turn out to be just because he thought someone else had a better chance. I'm guessing that all the people he moved down are going to have something in common: They're going to be all blacks, or all women, or all liberals, or something like that that is going to make the good doctor look much worse.
  5. I bought my last tux in 1993. I wore it a year ago and I hate the style. It was fine in the '90s but loose fit legs and a full break just looks like an old man tux. (I may in fact be an old man, but I work my ass off to be in shape and if I want was dress like a dumb-ass 30-something, then Fuck you, I'm doing it.) There's a 50/50 chance it doesn't fit, but for $119 it's worth the shot.
  6. OMG, the NASA TV coverage is as bad as you indicated..."Let's take a look at how the people of Kerrville have been preparing." No, let's not. It's like when Olympic TV coverage cuts to human interest stories rather than covering, I don't know, maybe Olympic Events.
  7. Latest Satellite cloud layer from wunderground.com Folks out in Marble Falls might get lucky and catch part of the 50-mile-wide gap in the clouds that is near Fredericksburg right now, but everyone else in Cen Tex looks out of luck.
  8. Useful site that lets you click anywhere to see details: https://nso.edu/for-public/eclipse-map-2024/ For the Memorial Stadium: 1 minute 49 sec of darkness
  9. Every other normal person, would find another job and move on with their life. Your mental well being would be far better off if you did as well. Don't be this guy:
  10. To me this seemed so over-the-top that it seems like a piss-poor attempt at a fake Onion type article. So I Googled it... Not only is it real. The BBC broke this story last June. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-65951188 The 'new' part is that he was finally charged. Some people just suck.
  11. I've seen a million episodes of Rockford Files, but I couldn't I remember exactly when I watched them. I was just slightly too young for first-air primetime viewing. Wikipedia conveniently had the answer: The free-range children of the early '80s watched whatever we wanted on afternoon TV. (Of course since we didn't have cable, there was Gillian's Island, Hogan's Heroes, and the Rockford Files.) Also, my memory of Beth Davenport was that she was much hotter than what Google Images indicates.
  12. This should have ended with the Key and Peele skit. This is similar to "A Night at the Roxbury" in that there is no need to turn a skit into a full length movie.
  13. Spotify has been my go-to for the past couple years. I started out with the free version of Spotify, but it quickly proved it's worth to me. I have Spotify on my Garmin Watch for runs without the phone, on the phone, on the computer, and on the Google (Nest) Speakers. Other than a stray music video or two on YouTube, Spotify is now the source of 99% of my music and 100% of my podcasts. My latest podcast binge kick is science based exercise shows: RP Strength Barbell Medicine The Drive Stronger by Science More Plates More Dates
  14. My 'BS' meter started beeping with the video above showing the cops arresting an un-hurt man. No fucking way. If they had claimed one gunman was captured but has significant gun shot wounds, and is on the way to the hospitable, it would seem plausible.
  15. <fingers in ears> LA LA LA I'm not listening. There was an old Kingston Trio song called M.T.A about a guy who couldn't get off the subway. I feel like that guy. Over the last year and a half, my portfolio has morphed into all Tech stocks and Tech sector funds. The bottom line is amazing, but I have no exit strategy. How/When do you get off the Tech Rocketship? Long Term Hold is my current plan, but I know there's going to be a big-ass correction at some point. It makes me nervous to think that maybe we're at the peak of the mountain right now and that we're going to look back in a couple years and say "I wish I sold there". ...Or maybe NVDA is going to 2,000. Hell yeah, let's ride this pony!
  16. They've had: a Scottsman (Sean Connery), an Australian (Roger Lazenby), a Welshman (Timothy Dalton), an Irishman (Pierce Brosnan), so sure a Canadian (Simu Liu) seems to fit the bill.
  17. I have a kid who is a junior at TAMUCC and they have NOT heard a thing on the student rumor mill about this. There are only 12K students there, so if there was talk (drugs, girlfriend, grades, whatever) it seems like it would have gotten out. A friend of a friend of a friend did know him, but apparently, no possible motive. As far as walking without shoes down to the Bay, that seems really unlikely. It may be only 0.4 miles from his apartment, and there are sidewalks the whole way, but you have to cross a wide busy street, go under a dirty underpass, and the screenshot below this is the nearest bay access. Rocks, branches and mud. This isn't some nice clean beach access. You'd probably cut your feet multiple times just getting to the water's edge.
  18. The new sports betting sites don't bother me at all, I just don't have a need for them. I already get my gambling fix trading securities on the stock market. (NVDA FOREVER!!!)
  19. Hey AI: If all the MLB mascots fight, draw me a picture of the winner: Not exactly my mental image of an angel, but it hangs out in California, so who knows what fucked up shit it's seen.
  20. I think the Marlin vs Tiger matchup all comes down to home field advantage. Road team isn't wining any of those.
  21. I think everyone can agree that cops do good/great things at times. The problem is virtually all cops will lie to back their 'brothers'. That can take the form of filing a false report, turning a blind eye, staying silent, or even covering up mistakes. Until we have real police reform that includes lifetime LEO bans, losing pensions, and enforced criminal penalties for lying cops, they are simply untrustworthy. 'Bad apple' is a very fitting metaphor because the saying is 'one bad apple can spoil the barrel'.
  22. My distrust of Police is so high at this point, that my acceptance that the cops were actually shot by the civilian is waiting for body camera footage. Wouldn't be the first time the cops decided to go in guns blazing and ended up shooting their own or were responsible for the shootout ... and then blamed it on someone else. While it's possible it went down they way they are suggesting, it's more likely they left out some critical details. Quite literally, Cops lie.
