  1. Not in the rural areas. The bulk of the youth is falling in line with their elders on this. And just like those situations, each beating is usually more severe than the last. It's like they need to test the limits of their power. Once the wife has endured several beatings without reporting him, he figures he has unlimited power, and every assault has to wound deeper than the last one to make an impression. It's the bully mentality. Not bright enough to solve any problems, but sufficiently powerful to block anyone else from solving anything. I think the Dems had to go for this commission to put a spotlight on the hypocrisy of the Trump enablers. They probably figured they wouldn't be interested in real investigation/justice, but had to give them enough rope to hang themselves. If they would have gone on with the investigations in whatever fashion without at least asking the Republicans for their input, they'd have been crucified as authoritarians, breaking democracy, etc. Now they can move on. They gave the right the chance to do the right thing, and they failed, as expected.
  2. I always figured that anyone can grow pot at home was a big part of the reluctance to legalize. If you can grow your own, then they can't collect taxes on it, can they? Lots easier to grow weed than brew beer or make wine, much less run a still. And I agree with Buck, I always told my first wife I'd rather the girl date a pot smoker than drinker. I never saw a mean toker, but I've seen lots of mean ass drunks.
  3. No way the title company or mortgage company or county clerk wouldn't have at least asked if they didn't have property homesteaded any where else. I'd guess either they expected the clerk in their original county to seal their records, or they filed one under her name and another under his. But there's no way they hadn't been apprised if not warned before they claimed the second one.
  4. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/14/us/politics/jessica-gonzalez-texas-voting-rights.html A good brief interview.
  5. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2021/05/heritage-foundation-dark-money-voter-suppression-laws/ Leaked Video: Dark Money Group Brags About Writing GOP Voter Suppression Bills Across the Country “We did it quickly and we did it quietly,” said the executive director of Heritage Action.
  6. Republicans are clearly struggling to blame anything on President Joe Biden, Jimmy Kimmel said on Thursday. Their newest complaint focuses on a shortage of dipping sauces at Chick-fil-A, which has limited sauce packets to one per customer as a result. That, Kimmel said, prompted a complaint from “Texas’ top Chick-fil-A-hole,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas): “Right, he’s killing us one zesty buffalo at a time,” Kimmel cracked. “Poor Ted Cruz, he’s still looking for something to distract us from fleeing to Cancun.”
  7. Triangular layers, no doubt. Well done.
  8. You must have been in the pointy cardboard closet when they announced it.
  9. Well, they have completed the room with no sound, surely they've gotten this technology down too, by now.
  10. Sorry man, but Whoosh....
  11. That's a double post that won't get much bitchin'.
  12. I would have thought DC instead of BC. But both could work. Bitchy cunt or dry cow.
  13. Stassney, those 2 women on the left behind Briscoe, they were behind Slawson earlier in the day. Are they reps? And the redhead on the far right is Slawson, right? Different outfit from before.
  14. Just so many shitty fucking bills on the floor, and all based on nothing substantial to improve Texas. All this time on voter suppression and nothing on the power grid. Time spent on anti-abortion and no expansion of Medicaid or planned parenthood. Open carry and nothing on mental health. Running homeless off the streets but nothing on helping them get back on their feet. So enraging. And people wonder why Christianity is losing its base. Because its focus has been bastardized to fit the needs of those greedy for wealth and power. Driven by revenge against others who actually have enjoyable lives. There are too many philistines in those churches now. They get the news coverage, they demand the news coverage, and those folks who still hold the real Christian values of tolerance and charity are stained by it.
  15. That cluster of unattractive Karens around Slawson with their smug smirks on their faces says it all. Their god is so much more powerful than the pathetic scientists. They can ignore science because of their moral crusade. I'd bet the house on them all suffering from dusty crotch. So did Briscoe get his wish to modify SB7 however he wishes behind closed doors or are all the amendments completed now? I was afraid he would take it behind those doors and stuff it with provisions sought in 1340, 530 and other crappy house bills.
  16. I can not imagine a family having to go through something like this. much less in the spotlight this particular family is in. I can only guess the amount of additional pressure with all the fans and admirers wanting to mourn as well. Something akin to Kobe and his daughter, I would think. I hope all give this family the space they need to grieve, and support them with respect and tenderness.
  17. Well in OK you can already drive over them, right? What's next? Gas vans?
  18. Amazon just cancelled New Tricks this past week (which pissed me off), so I moved on the Endeavour. Just finished season 3. I have to say they have some nice birds on this show. Of various ages.
  19. We watched the first episode of the Life in Color with David Attenborough. I realized after it was over that my son had made it this far without seeing much in quality nature docs. He was into it. It's like Mutual of Omaha with really good sharp photography.
  20. I finished this some time ago. A good series. All the cameos of known stars past and present in French film is pretty interesting.
  21. re: The Aggie/Tide brotherhood continues in the NFLPosted on 5/1/21 at 12:38 pm to Farmer1906 An Aggie opening up his holes for Bama is nothing new, baw
  22. You can be pretty book smart without having much common sense or a feel for the best course of action. I think this fits him pretty well.
  23. I think maybe he stalled the vote in order to try to take it behind closed doors and pump it full of other crap. If he lets it pass now, then some of the other voter suppression bills like 1340 would probably die. This is an attempt to round up all the strays into one bad ass bill. But I don't know shit, just trying to piece it all together too.
