  1. Can y’all recommend any guitar shops in Seattle? I’m heading there on a trip soon and figured I would take a look around while there. Any recommendations for stuff to see or places to eat are also welcome. The Jimi Hendrix gravesite is probably further than I want to go. I would consider the Bruce Lee gravesite though.
  2. $20 copay is a $20 copay.
  3. Just found this thread. Been on the Music board since I joined. I’ve survived Stage IV colorectal, metastatic to the lymph and liver, with two recurrences. If anybody gets into that world, I’m more than happy to share my experiences. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy.
  4. Dave Bryan on the left there looks like the chick from the refinery that helps Mad Max drive the oil tanker full of sand down the road in “Road Warrior”.
  5. Seeing Ratt live also helped clear up who the shredder was between DeMartini and Crosby.
  6. Yeah, they opened for Bon Jovi in ‘87, and I saw them open for David Lee Roth in ‘86 the night before Thanksgiving.
  7. I was at both of those shows. Ratt was underwhelming. I had high hopes because I liked their music back in the day but Pearcy just didn’t have good stage presence and doesn’t sing great live.
  8. If I had been one to email Jim Rome back in the day to try to win “Huge Email of the Day”, my email account would be: davebryansmanperm at EarthLink dot net earthlink shreds out

That’s the same All-Star Game where James Earl Jones recited the lyrics to The Star Spangled Banner while a band played it and he screwed it up a tiny bit.
  10. Saw Styx a few weeks back. The Shriners were doing a fundraiser for their hospital where you got a raffle ticket to win a signed guitar and you got a new Styx cd for $20. The Shriners do great work and I’m pretty bad about buying new music so I gave them a $20. Didn’t win a guitar. I had seen this AI-heavy video for the first single off this new album. It’s a trip, and the song is pretty good. it’s taken a few listens but the album has grown on me. If you want Grand Illusion or Pieces of Eight, this ain’t it. Bands evolve, change members, age, etc. This disc has some good songs. And they don’t hide their influences. I hear Pink Floyd, The Who, and a couple of tracks that remind of stuff from The White Album all mixed into this album. Probably more if I think about it a little longer. I am glad I bought it.
  11. That’s fantastic that you took your dad. Good son!

That was excellent! Thanks for sharing! I’m a big fan of YYNOT. They are really good. The bassist and guitarist both nail the tones of Geddy and Alex so well.
  13. Stevie might have been trying to match Taylor so there would be some semblance of harmony, or was thrown off by Taylor not staying on pitch. The age of the performer is irrelevant at that point. By 21, you either have it or you don’t. You can either sing the notes correctly every time or not. There are numerous examples of younger entertainers who just killed it before 21. Writing the hook is a talent. I don’t know if she does all of that herself but if so then good for her being able to come up with those ideas. That’s the toughest part. I do have an acquaintance that went to school for sound engineering and producing in Nashville. He worked some with Taylor back in this era. He was not complimentary of her musical abilities at the time. The Eras Tour is the most impressive tour of all time. And her starting from scratch and recording her earlier albums again and owning the rights was a baller move. Her success is undeniable. I just don’t think it’s as organic as most people think.
  14. Not sure why my link didn’t post. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x75can1
  15. She has talent. It’s just not in the solar system as other talented performers. I watched this live and recalled some of the glances Stevie gave Taylor (Stevie comes out around the 1:45 mark). Taylor is not on pitch a number of times in just a couple of minutes of this song. And it’s not a difficult song to sing.
  16. The white body with the black binding Nita Strauss guitar is really sharp. Nita is aight as well.
  17. Phil does a deep dive on it. I expected him to have some negatives in here somewhere. He usually does. Not this time. Very favorable review, and knowing that the design is due to Herman Lee from Dragonforce, I understand why it looks so different.
  18. Chleo? More like “designed by Miss Cleo”
  19. Gotta tell ya, I’m pretty impressed with those choices. How old was your grandmother? edit: nevermind, I see she was born in ‘46.
  20. Also appreciate your input. I had not considered Mojotone or Monoprice but will look into those.
  21. Thanks for the input. All good to consider. My son is an electrical engineer and worked on robotics teams in high school and college so he’s got some skills. I last soldered when I worked a semester at IBM up on Burnet Road prior to the PS2 rollout. To be fair, I did solder a LOT, but that was a long time ago. But it’s not difficult. I would just need a refresher.
  22. My dad had that one and a couple others and I loved it when he put on some Herb Albert. My brother and me were enthralled by that album cover. All these years later, I’m still enthralled by that album cover.
  23. My son suggested we get a kit from StewMac and build an amp together. Y’all have any opinions on their amps? It wouldn’t save any money. Those kits are not cheap compared to just buying a similar amp that is already built. Could be a fun project though.
  24. I saw Julio at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in ‘85 or ‘86. He had a backup singer that joined him for a duet. She had the most impressive range I have seen to this day. And that old dude worked the crowd and had thousands of middle aged and above women eating out of his hand. The Dome smelled like esteogen that night. Or estrogen replacement therapy drugs anyway.
  25. I want to get an amp that takes pedals and is a little more traditional than what I currently use, which is a Spark Mini. The Spark is fine for practice, but I would like to take the training wheels off and get on a big kid bike. At some point, I could see an ENGL Steve Morse head and some brand of cabinet being the answer. It sounds really good. I don’t need to be spend $1600 on a head right now and however much a good cabinet would run. The Line 6 or whatever the new Fender modeling board is called get some good reviews and can do a lot. I’m not as familiar with what all I need to make that work. At this stage, a 50w Gen 3 Boss Katana looks like it would do everything I want and more. It’s just me playing at home right now. I’ve had a couple of invites to come jam with some other guys but that hasn’t happened yet and I would like to get a looper so I can practice improvising. What do you more experienced players recommend?
