  1. This thread is so off the fucking rails it doesn’t even make sense. We are a defensive collapse and a game Quinn played significantly injured through away from Quinn being a top 3 heisman candidate and you morons are in here arguing about running backs in different conferences. I’m glad Texas is back in the national conversation and all, but seriously can we focus this fucking thread on Quinn and what he’s done and what he needs to do better?
  2. Calmer than you are dude. It’s a bad argument if you can’t call a guy who finishes in the top 5 as a Heisman and goes high in the draft after going something like 30-6 in games he starts and finishes as a starter a longhorn legend. Because that’s where Quinn is going to finish up. go read my Sark thread from last year. Or my Milroe comment from Tuscaloosa. And know that my Ewers comment is going to be as prophetic as that. he played fine as a basically true freshman. He’s playing really good as a sophomore this year. Same progression and he’s going to be awesome next year. Anyone expecting more out of him at this stage in his career was doing it wrong. I posted- something like 50 pages ago, all the numbers for true freshman QB’s that won a Heisman and they were uniformly garbage. Quinns were better than them all. I guess you can argue he wasn’t a true freshman but I’d say starting in August after camp was 2 weeks old at Ohio state and transferring to Texas and playing in his first year in the program made him closer to a true freshman than a redshirt freshman, but it would probably be fair to split the difference. regardless, there’s nothing surprising about him getting a ton better between last year and this year and there will be nothing surprising about him making a big leap next year. A big leap for him means we go 10-2- he wins hardware and he goes top 5 in the draft. And that’s all longhorn legend territory.
  3. So you are already setting it up that he can be top 5 for Heisman, go super high in the nfl draft and yet your opinion is right? I love you man, but this is a horrifically stupid take and corner you’ve backed yourself into.
  4. absolutely i will. the heisman thing i can see happening because it’s a bullshit award and we should be very very good next year, not to mention that Sark is going to get every ounce of production that he can out of QE. do i think QE will be one of the 3-4 best players in the country next year? no i do not. i hope he’s top 4 on his own team. as of today do i project him to have a successful career in the nfl? again, no i do not. not even a little bit. nfl QB is the hardest job in sports, and QE is so, so far removed from having mastered his own college position and craft that i do not see him having any sort of successful nfl career, barring major improvemt in the offseason/next year.
  5. You are going to come on here and admit you were wrong and I’m right when he’s too 5 heisman and too 5 in the draft next year right? Right? seriously man, if you can’t see that as super likely trajectory right now it’s because you’ve dug in, made up your mind and aren’t ready to change it.
  6. the “he’s a longhorn legend” post got 8 positive reactions and nobody besides me has disagreed with that guy. beyond that there’s such a thing as tacit endorsement, and this thread is full of it. when people keep talking about the heisman and the nfl and nobody but me cares to disagree, i think it’s safe to say that the rest of this QE love fest thread is not in disagreement. but hey, keep being condescending about everything you say to me, it’s a really earnest way to approach people. 👌🏻
  7. I know this is gonna be hard for you to digest, but just because one or two posters say something doesn't mean the majority of us agree with it. Now commence with your typical parsing of verbiage and go off half-cocked, again, for another night of fun on surly. Here's one example: I don't consider him a legend, and I don't consider him a Heisman candidate, now or in the future. I can't predict NFL success. I suspect he will get drafted pretty high, though.
  8. another thing that people don’t want to admit is that quinn has a ton of teammates who have developed and gotten better at a much faster rate than he has. sark and co. have done a tremendous job of developing talent. if you come here, you get better, year over year. just like earlier when i pointed out that QE is arguably not one of the 10 best players on this team (his ceiling is probably no.9), but he’s also not one of the more quickly developing players either. look at how many guys from sark’s first team have developed into monsters who will be named to all conference and all america teams. we bring in 4 and 5* talent and we develop them into beasts. and then you have Quinn, the highest rated of them all, with the QB whisperer as his coach, and while he is no doubt improving, he still is an inconsistent player who makes the same mistakes/has the same issues as he’s always had, namely with footwork, pocket presence, and accuracy. i can’t count the number of teammates QE has who’ve lapped him in terms of growth. all of this is to say that we have one player on this team who in reality is not one of the team’s top players in terms of on field play as well as development and growth, and yet this thread and this fam base want to call him a legend, talk about the heisman, predict future nfl success, and claim that he’s just as good all those other QBs out there who are out performing both statistically and on tape. this QB hero worship at Texas is a tradition that for whatever reason our fan base loves to practice. i’m glad we have QE; he’s a good qb; but y’all make him out to be football jesus, and that’s wild.
  9. he’s pat mahomes, he’s cj stroud, he’s a longhorn legend, he’s a heisman candidate. the worshipping of a guy who’s done nothing of import at Texas is wild.
  10. I think there’s a bit of misunderstanding about sark’s offense. If you look back at history of Sark as an OC and HC he always makes the rb’s look really good but not all the qb’s he’s had put up impressive numbers. He’s had a 1k yard rusher every year he’s been a head coach. Jake locker, Keith Price, Casey Thompson and Hudson card did not set the world on fire. Bishop sankey, Chris Polk, javorius Allen, and now Jonathan brooks put up great numbers because sark’s offense attacks the run. That history still has people running that 3-3-5 against Quinn, even with all the guys on here saying he’s inaccurate, he can’t read defenses, his pocket presence is awful, etc. If defenses decided to give Quinn the looks that Maalik got he would put up “video game” numbers and win a heisman. Shit if we had a wr like Burton, Luther from Missouri, that kid from Florida state, Harrison jr or nabers then Quinn would have better numbers. Mitchell is good but he’s soft, worthy is not a 50/50 guy, and Whittington isn’t blowing the top off a defense. All our so called threats are dangerous as long as our qb gets the ball in a good spot, if not then they kind of disappear. Those other guys I watch go make play for their qb routinely. McCord is a shitty qb but Harrison bails his ass out A LOT. I have no idea who the Missouri qb is lol.
  11. Ewers had an all-world rating coming into college, which was 3 years ago. This WR class and offensive starters was considered the best UT had in decades. Ewers was rated by all the press in pre- and early season as a Heisman shortlist candidate. People need to begrudgingly acknowledge that by all those standards he's well behind.
  12. Yep. His last 3 quarters against Iowa state were pretty good too. Those 4 quarters in a row were Heisman finalists and 1/1 in 25 nfl draft territory. I would suspect as an experienced upper class man he will look like that way more often than not.
  13. he’s a talented but inconsistent QB who has pretty good stats thanks in large part to his outstanding supporting cast of players and coaches. he’s probably not one of the 10 best players on his own team, his accuracy, footwork, and pocket presence have all been issues for two seasons now, and yet this thread is full of people talking about the heisman and calling him a Longhorn legend. whenever people push back on these takes people like you bombasticize their responses and allude to them being stupid haters who just want to be miserable. im sorry, but it is not overly critical to push back on the idea that QE is some legendary, future heisman contending, “very good” QB. it’s just a differing opinion.
  14. There are a lot of posters who have become overly critical of Ewers. It really is ridiculous. When you see what happened with Maalik at QB, and what other programs like Tennessee roll out at QB, it becomes pretty obvious that Ewers is a very good QB. The throws he’s able to make open up the offense in ways that would otherwise be impossible. No QB plays mistake free. Is he Heisman quality right now? No. But, the overly negative opinions simply identify the posters who don’t really know much about the game. Thanks for making it so easy to ID the football idiots.
  15. Colt threw more INT’s as sophomore than Quinn may throw his entire career. Colt couldn’t beat Aggy or k-state consistently to save his fucking life. His deep ball was awful. He was just a gamer tho, will to win like no other but he was not some transcendent qb that college football drools over. He’s a legend at Texas but most of college football has forgotten him already. If Quinn played all 4 years here under Sark he would leave with every record possible and a couple heisman visits. I say all that to agree with you and disagree with Derka lol.
  16. What horse shit mental gymnastics. Can’t compare colts sophomore year because he was hurt the year before, but Ewers playing through an injury in the year he is hurt and he is who he is. Colt lost his NFL line but Ewers has one? (I disagree with the amount of bitching about or OL, but that’s an another thread. People were calling for colt to be replaced his sophomore year. Probably the same morons like you shiting on Ewers now. Ewers had made tremendous improvement. He has injury issues. If he comes back a third year and stays healthy he’ll be a heisman candidate. He was already being discussed before his injury. ewers colt
  17. just because the QB gets assigned the win and the loss doesn’t mean he won or lost the game. i’m struggling to remember a single Texas game ever where QE was the most consequential player in leading us to victory, something VY and Colt did regularly. VY and Colt were the best and most impactful players on their teams. as i’ve just said, QE is a borderline top 10 player on this team. he is not the one leading us to victory week in and week out. with what? are you saying he deserves to be a heisman candidate simply because the QB of a good team, even though he’s nowhere near the best or most impactful player on his own team?
  18. if he’s a heisman candidate at the beginning of next year it’s because he’s the QB at Texas, because he’s hyped up his whole life, and because his coach and his teammates make his stats look a lot better than his actual performance. does he actually deserve to be a heisman candidate? in a word, no. where does he rank among his own team’s best players? maybe top 10? maybe outside the top 10? point is, any heisman talk is fan and media BS. quinn ewers has not been leading his team to victory week and week out, he’s mostly been an inconsistent piece of a puzzle that has some truly all american/award worth badasses and a QB genius HC and play caller who has tailored an offense to QE’s strengths and weaknesses. i can name a dozen games off the top of my head where VY or Colt led us to victory and were the difference in winning and losing. that’s not what Quinn does for this team. never has been.
  19. I don’t think he’s better than VY. That’s silly. But he’s an upper echelon sophomore and will be a heisman candidate when the season starts. Not sure how the roster stacks up next year but Texas has to be a top 5 team preseason. Basically he’s good enough to knock off the heavy criticism (acknowledging he can get better at several aspects of his game) and enjoy the stellar season he’s having … as a sophomore.
  20. I agree but I also think Jr year is when that stuff starts to click. The game has to slow down even more for that to emerge - that just takes time. It’s the same in every sport. We’ve been so fucked on QB play we’ve forgotten how long it can take to really develop an elite heisman level QB. Right now we have a superb QB that with this offense, play calling and personnel is already CFP elite. That’s nuts.
  21. He’s gutting it out hurt and making some very very good throws and missing some guys. He missed half his junior year, skipped his senior year and got hurt two times in his two years starting. He’s started something like 30 games since his sophomore year of high school. he’s gonna be fucking awesome if he comes back next year. He’s currently a very good quarter back that will likely be a Heisman finalist next year. Some of yall need to eat less paint chips.
  22. Also, while its fun to make fun of the “mental midget” from Allen….he was the most decorated high school player of all time, won the heisman in his first year as a starter, took NFL rookie of the year the following year, and then stacked 2 consecutive Pro Bowls afterwards — 1 year in which he accounted for 37 touchdowns.
  23. I'm still doubtful he comes back . yes I know the scuttlebutt , but if he grades out he's gone. If he comes back it will probably blow people's minds because we haven't had a qb with all the surrounding pieces this good since McCoy Would be the best thing for Texas for an experienced Ewers to lead us through year 1 of SEC , seems like striking gold Most of the Heisman contenders are multi year starters and historically QBs tend to get better the more time in a system. Expectations for a Ewers return would be sky fucking high and I'm here for it if it happens
  24. Tommy DeVito would be a heisman finalist for this team. Prove me wrong!
  25. You are a trip, Winston and manziel are the only redshirt freshman to ever win the heisman. They both sucked shit through a straw as “nfl qb’s”. Your entire argument is all over the fucking place. Winning a heisman as a redshirt freshman means you’ll be a starter in the nfl then the two guys that did were so shitty they never became full time starters. I’m feeding the troll here damn it.
