I think I’m one and done with 1792 Sweet Wheat. It just tastes like young 1792. Nothing special.

I probably won’t revisit the NBC Stella’s Stash either. It’s printed nowhere on the bottle, but it’s almost certainly double oaked. It was darker than a cup of coffee. Just not my jam.

So the new Old Fitz 7 BiB for $60 seems downright reasonable compared to plenty of new stuff out there.

Am I being too benevolent?

Hitting total wine today for a birthday tonight for a buddy. What would you snobs suggest in the 80-100 range that's not the obvious Blanton's or Garrison Bros type of stuff.

Bonus points if it's slightly more obscure. He likes Bourbon, but he's not a snob about it.

Jack Daniels Barrel Proof Single Barrel Rye.  Hands down.  and it's under $80 but tastes like it isn't.

All of this. All of it.

I might grab that for myself, but I was thinking more along the lines of something he likely doesn't have. And I think he prefers Bourbon to Rye The ones near me had some Stellum and Chestnut farms that seemed like decent deals. Any thoughts on those?

Pass.
The Bardstown Single Barrels are really good.
They will run you around $70
If you can find it and willing to spend a little more, Bardstown Discovery is even better.

Innkeeper is the best in my opinion. Nice root beer note. Sneakerhead was good, but a step below.

Innkeeper is on sale at Spec’s for $75 right now.

Just got this one in the mail. I hadn’t heard of Ironroot before I found this bottle, but happy to see them well regarded here.

Lost lantern is an independent bottler that buys individual barrels from small distillers. Their flagship products are blends of these barrels and then they also have a single cask series.

I keep an eye on breaking bourbon’s reviews to see if any of the seasonal releases are unusually good in their eyes. Obviously whiskey reviews are highly subjective, but I’ve yet to be disappointed by something that rated very highly. Of the 2000+ reviews they’ve done only ~60 have gotten 4.5 / 5. Since value is one of their ratings, things that are solid and cheap get a boost while really good but overpriced limited releases get dinged so there a TON of bottles that get 3-3.5 and a decent amount that get 4. So when I saw this come in at 4.5 I was very happy to see that it was still in stock. It was sold out by the next morning.
