Texas agreed to make him the only back in the class, to give him a chance to land wherever he deserves on the depth chart, and is matching any NIL offer, allegedly. I don't get why they all still act like this recruitment is anything but that. Texas sticks with its promises and everyone dealing with recruits knows this.

We have Max Wright committed too at OT.

And I was referencing more in regard to explosive skill players. WRs and RBs. For all the good Choice did here, he didn't exactly leave a stacked RB room with a bunch of diverse skill sets and guys who can turn 5-yard runs into 15-yard runs (although injuries played a role). That room will need a makeover in the offseason and Derek Cooper is a guy who can jump to the front of the line. I also didn't really understand Sark saying publicly a while back that they wanted to get more length and bigger bodies at receiver after he just coached Worthy/Bond/Golden and watched guys like Jaydon Blue and Keilan Robinson with the ball in their hands. Hopefully, we can course correct on that and guys like Bishop/Lott would be a good start.

You show up with some interesting stuff sometimes, and other times I am McNulty kicking his desk while reading your takes.

IT just put out an article saying Kohen Brown confirmed with them that he is going to play safety at Texas.

Guess that locks in Jermaine Bishop for offense and we will keep pushing for Jalen Lott.

Bobby just said this isnt true FWIW

"Kendall Guervil

Guervil has been committed to Florida since July 2. A little over a month later, he shut his recruitment down with the Gators.

Florida State and Texas have been in touch with him, especially after his knee surgery due to his season ending ACL and meniscus tears.

This isn't giving us pause?  Large dudes and bad knees can be a bad combo.

2027 TCU commit Snell is an awesome safety for Waxahachie. Brown looks like a WR imo

Kid is a fucking DAWG.  I didn't see him at Nationals for track this year, so assuming he the summer off to train football specifically.   I hate to say this man's name, but it's hard not to think of Sean Taylor when you see him.  I don't know anything about the kid's character, etc - he's got all the makings of an All-Pro safety.

Hard for me to imagine we wouldn't sign Snell if given the chance. He's a total beast. His epic game-saving 4th down tackle against Duncanville is still reverberating across the state.

Duncanville lost to Waxahachie?!?!  I have an old teammate from Duncanville who is insufferable.  Many thanks for this tidbit lmao

Dre Quinn ...
A new team is attempting to get in the race. Ohio State is making a push to get the recent 4-star+ Clemson de-commit out of Buford High on campus this weekend for the game vs. Minnesota. As it stands now, confidence remains on the Texas side. Tennessee believes they are right there with Texas in the fight.

The 6-foot-4, 228-pounder is not currently expected to take his decision to December, or even November.

Jalen Lott ...
The recruitment of 4-star++ Oregon wide receiver verbal continues to see positive returns for the Longhorns. Lott has been in communication with members of the Texas staff daily since the visit two weekends ago.

OnTexasFootball currently gives the Longhorns a 60% shot to eventually flip the Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek playmaker.

The Stampede: Latest Texas football recruiting intel
Horns247 Staff

While recruiting has gone somewhat stagnant since the conclusion of official visit season and summer commitment palooza, it's about to start really heating up as we approach the December Early Signing Period. Here is some of the notable Texas recruiting buzz entering the week.

Longhorns trending for Georgia EDGE
As reported last week, Texas is trending for Buford (Ga.) edge rusher Dre Quinn upon his de-commitment from Clemson.

"It was the bonding with the players. It felt like I've known the players for a long time and it felt like I'm already on the team, the way they're treating me. And just the relationship I have with the coaches and how honest and close coach (LaAllan) Clark is with me. He's very honest with me, he tells me what it is, he tells me what they expect out of me when I come in and that's what I really appreciate."

Tennessee and Ohio State are the other contenders, the Buckeyes working to get Quinn on campus this weekend for its game against Minnesota.

Texas EDGE coach LaAllan Clark visited Quinn last week during the Longhorns' bye-week.

There's no set timetable for a new decision but it's Texas' race to lose, per sources. (SOUTH)

Jermaine Bishop, resident record breaker
After Bishop broke the Houston area's all-time receiving record on Friday, he's now closing in on making the top 10 for the state in receiving yards, and he'll have a shot to crack the top 10 for receptions and reception touchdowns as well.

It has truly been a remarkable career for the Willis Wildkat who's only been playing wide receiver in a full-time availability since his sophomore year. In fact, the only Longhorns that have arrived at Texas with more receiving yards than Bishop are Jordan Shipley and Jake Oliver, who both played in lower classifications of Texas High School football while Bishop has played in 6A.

Records Bishop is closing in on:

Top 10 all-time receiving yards list: WIth 3,601 career yards, Bishop needs 731 more yards to crack the top 10.

Top 10 all-time receptions list: With 199 career receptions, Bishop needs 48 more to break into the top 15 and 59 more to break into the top 10.

Top 10 all-time touchdown reception list: With 43 career touchdown catches, Bishop is 10 touchdown receptions away from breaking into the top 15 and 15 scores away from breaking into the top 10.

Horns247 will be tracking Bishop's performances week to week as he gets closer and closer to finishing towards the top of the Texas High School football record book. (SCRUGGS)

Longhorns pledge flirting with SEC foe
The Texas defensive line commit returned to Oxford for the second time in three weeks to see the Rebels' huge win over LSU on Saturday afternoon. In between the two visits to Ole Miss, Berymon was in Austin for the Sam Houston game. Ole Miss is pulling out all the stops to try and flip the talented Bayou State product and has Berymon listening. It's too early to call this one way or the other but I'm not going to sit here and report he's completely solid with the Longhorns. This is one to watch throughout the next few weeks. (SOUTH)

Latest on 2027 RB target
Speaking of breaking records, Richmond Randle 2027 five-star RB Landen Williams-Callis is getting closer and closer to putting his name atop the rushing records in Texas High School football. Though Jonathan Gray's career touchdown record of 205 will likely never be broken Williams-Callis is currently on pace to finish second all-time in career rushing scores.

The 5-foot-7.5, 190 pounder recently eclipsed the 5,000 career rushing yards mark on Friday and at the pace he's on he should finish top 10 in career rushing yards as well. Williams-Callis' latest performance included 28 carries for 342 yards and six touchdowns on an average of 12.2 yards per carry in a huge 49-42 rivalry win over Iowa Colony. Williams-Callis lost two fumbles on Randle's first two possessions of the game, but the five-star bounced back and was able to lead Randle to a comeback victory after being down 21-0 in the first quarter.

As far as the recruitment goes, at one point in the process, former Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice had the Longhorns at the front of the race for Landen Williams-Callis. Then Detroit came calling and Choice left, and the recruitment opened up a lot more.

Williams-Callis has taken trips to Texas A&M and Oklahoma this fall, and he also has visits coming up to Ohio State, Oregon, SMU, and Texas A&M again. He looked into the Texas-Oklahoma game in Dallas, but since the recruits are only allowed in the stands and can't talk to coaches before or after the game, he's now looking at visiting Austin in November.

However, the trip is yet to be scheduled to Horns247's knowledge.

The highest ranked running back to come out of the Lone Star State in several cycles, Texas will need to land two at the position in 2027 and there wouldn't be a bigger running back class headliner than Williams-Callis. However, there's work to be done as far as getting Texas back to pole position in the recruitment. The Longhorns staff made it out to Randle this past week to visit and chat with Williams-Callis in person, but again, there's work to be done in this recruitment for Texas. (SCRUGGS)

Texas still likes elite Oregon commit a-Lott
Oregon pledge and Texas legacy Jalen Lott was in Austin with his parents for the Texas-Sam Houston game earlier this month. Lott hasn't spoken on the visit considering his pledge to the Ducks, but it's noteworthy nonetheless. Texas hasn't stopped recruiting the Frisco Panther Creek product since his pledge to Oregon in July. The Longhorns would absolutely take a commitment from Lott if he decides to make the change. And while Oregon is firing on all cylinders on the football field, sources feel as though Texas is still a team to keep tabs on in this recruitment throughout the fall. (SOUTH)

All is well with Derrek Cooper
I reported last week that after speaking with several sources that there is little — if any — concern about where Texas running back commit Derrek Cooper's pledge to the Longhorns stand. That remains the same coming out of the weekend. The staff hit it out of the park on the South Florida standout's official visit to Austin for the Sam Houston game. Terry Black's BBQ did its part, too. Miami is going to keep trying, though, so we still abide by the never say never mantra when it comes to recruiting. But we feel confident Cooper sticks with Texas. (SOUTH)

Texas communicating with Ole Miss commit
Another edge rusher Texas is interested in, a source tells Horns247 the Longhorns would like to get the Ole Miss pledge Landon Barnes on campus for a visit. However, if Quinn joins the fold, that could be it for the edge position. We'll still keep tabs on the Duncanville standout. (SOUTH)

Texas A&M commit attending Texas-OU
While the Longhorns stand on solid ground with the aforementioned Cooper, we reported prior to the season that Texas A&M running back commit KJ Edwards wanted to get back to Austin for a game this fall (as well as LSU). Edwards' father tells Horns247 their plan is to attend the Texas-OU game in Dallas as of now. So it won't be a campus visit, but there are still three home slots the Carthage product could make it in later in the fall. For now, Edwards is solid with the Aggies. (SOUTH)
