Rumors of our demise were premature. Back to back top 25 wins

Vic has never lost to ISU

68-53

Texas physicality and strong defense bothers the cyclones a lot -- they looked ready to throw in the towel after 3 1/2 quarters of Texas harassing them...

Joens got hers (21), but no other Cyclone was in double digits. Texas had 3 players with 10+ points (17 for Gaston and 11 for Morris and Gonzales)

50% shooting, won the rebounding game, turned them over 20 times. They were 4-15 from three. Vic loves to defend teams who rely heavily on the 3

That’s awesome. We only had 2600 for ISU last year. Vic is creating a monster, helped a lot by how great Moody is

Crowd was good for a Sunday on a holiday weekend and I'm sure Coach received some feedback that getting into Moody before the game was a shit-show. Can't believe I'm typing this but parking staff was on the ball and actually helpful yesterday. Gate staff needs someone in leadership who knows what they're doing on gameday.

Great team win.

#25 in AP

OU up to 15

ISU down to 18

Texas in at 25

Baylor knocked out

Baylor is unranked for the first time since 2004! And LSU is top 5. Baylor is so dumb they didn’t give KM everything she wanted to stay

If you can believe it, Muhammad is leading the team in total rebounds (105) despite not starting a single game. Faye is second with 104 and they’re tied at 5.8 rpg. And Jones is the block leader despite only playing in 9 games

Muhammad is going to be very good. She does everything that Vic wants her to do (rebounding and defense).

Hard to believe she was only the #63 recruit according to ESPN.

No. 25 Texas (13-5, 4-1 Big 12) at Texas Tech (14-4, 2-3 Big 12)

Wednesday, January 18, 2023 – 7:00 p.m. Central

United Supermarkets Arena – Lubbock, Texas

TELEVISION: The game will be streamed nationally on Big 12 Now/ESPN+ with Ron Thulin, Brandi Poole (Ex Texas Tech Assistant Coach) and Arielle Schafer on the call.

RADIO: The game will be carried on 105.3 FM in Austin. Craig Way (pxp) and Kathy Harston (analyst) will call the action. The broadcast will be streamed on TexasSports.Com.

RORI HARMON: Sophomore All-American Rori Harmon made history on Jan. 4 in the Longhorns win over TCU as she became the 4th player in program history to record a triple-double. Harmon scored 17 points and added 11 assists and 10 rebounds. After missing the first five games of the season due to injury, the Longhorns are 11-2 with Harmon in the lineup this season. In Big 12 play, Harmon is averaging 11.4 ppg, 9.2 apg, 7.0 rpg and 2.2 spg.

DEFENSE GETTING IT DONE: Last time out the Longhorns held an Iowa State team that was averaging 78.7 points per game to 53 points. Texas gave up six points in the fourth quarter to the Cyclones, marking the 14th time this season they have held an opponent to single digits for a quarter. Texas is 12-0 on the season when they hold an opponent to 59 points or less for a game. Texas leads the Big 12 and ranks 7th in the NCAA in blocked shots per game at 5.6.

FORCING TURNOVERS: The Longhorns are forcing 22.4 turnovers per game. In the last eight games they hold a 209-68 advantage over opponents in points off turnovers. Texas ranks 8th in the NCAA in turnovers forced per game and 11th in the NCAA in turnover margin.

FAYE/GASTON DUO: Khadija Faye and DeYona Gaston are stepping up in the absence of Aaliyah Moore, who is out with a season ending ACL injury. Faye, who transferred from Texas Tech, has four double-double on the season. In Big 12 play, Gaston is averaging 14.6 points per game and shooting 58.5 percent from the field.

GOING THE DISTANCE: Rori Harmon has played 40 minutes in three of the Longhorns five conference games and has only missed six minutes over the five games. Harmon has reached double-digit assists in four of her last six games and despite missing the first five games of the season, Harmon ranks 18th in the NCAA in total assists with 96 (7.4 per game).

It will be a war in Lubbock.  Vic and Gerlich do not like each other.  Chevalier and Faye switched rosters and Chevalier talked a lot of crap about Texas not supporting her mental health issues (that seemingly came from her losing the starting PG role to Rori).

It's a trash program in Lubbock.  Get in, get a win, get the fuck out.

Cool. Should be a great listen.

Yeah ESPN+ broadcasts are almost always someone associated with the school doing color.  Don’t forget Andrea Lloyd does color on LHN and she’s a Texas WBB alum (on the 86 title team).  They’re a beating to listen to outside of the national broadcasts on FS1/ESPN

Baylor being unranked is funny and all, but both of those games against Baylor become must wins now. We can’t afford any more bad losses if we still hope to climb to a 4 seed

From an eyeball test, they might be a "bad" loss because they aren't ranked, but the committee uses NET, not human polls, so here is everyone's NET ratings:

10 Texas
14 ISU
25 Baylor
34 Kansas
46 OU
50 OK State
65 West Virginia
68 KSU
73 Texas Tech
135 TCU

Right now, TCU is the only team that would be a disastrous loss in the conference.  You don't want to lose to Tech, KSU or WV either (I'd call those bad, but they won't kill your resume).

Baylor is still currently a Quad 1 game for the Big 12.

NET loves Texas, who is tied for the conference lead, but really dislikes OU, who is also tied for the conference lead.  Texas is obviously helped by having played #3 UConn, #29 Louisville, #33 South Florida, #43 Marquette and #55 Princeton in non-conference.  OU played #7 Utah, #32 Ole Miss, #85 Florida and not much else.

Shaylee named USBWA National POW

Quote

Gonzales, a 5-10 graduate guard transfer from BYU and native of Gilbert, Ariz., averaged 18.5 points per game, shooting 16-for-24 from the field, including 5-of-10 from deep, in helping the Longhorns upset two visiting ranked teams in Big 12 competition in the Longhorns’ new Moody Center. The wins have lead the Longhorns back into the latest Associated Press women’s poll at No. 25. In the 72-59 win over then-No. 23 Kansas, she scored a season-high 26 points, shooting 11-of-16, and launched a personal 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to secure the win. She also had three steals. Against then-No. 15 Iowa State, a 68-53 win, she scored 11 points, shooting 5-of-8. She’s leading the team with a 12.0 points per game.

Big12 saw things differently:

Oklahoma State’s Naomie Alnatas (co-player) plus Texas Tech’s Bre’Amber Scott (co-player) and Jasmine Shavers (freshman) were bestowed with Big 12 women’s basketball weekly awards for games ending January 15.

Here is the Big12's selection in action the week before:

BScott expresses herself

Nice way to reward a young lady for representing the conference with class. 👍🏽

After Mike White did the same last year, I’m not going to say much about Scott

Don’t know what the proper procedure is for end of clock stuff, but the referees hand went up for the foul call after zeroes on the clock. The actual foul may have happened with a tenth or two left.

dumb to even be near that rebound once you can’t get it.

You’re on the right track.

When the clock is nearing 0s, it’s when the foul occurs and not when the hand goes up.
