Texas Women’s Basketball 2022-2023: Get on board or get out the damn way

This offense is just nowhere where Vic needs it to be. And Rori just not being a scorer. This is a bad start to the 2nd half. Just like the 2nd Q

This is becoming OKST road game pt. 2

We might just be a bad road team.  This team looks like a Sweet 16 ceiling, if we’re lucky, playing away from home

18 free throws to 4

Tech is getting the ball inside and getting offensive rebounds. All the fouls are earned. Texas isn’t getting inside vs the zone, is taking lots of 3s. Not drawing fouls. It’s an honest differential tonight.

and Texas isn’t making enough of those 3s.

Yeah, the fouls were legit.

We have taken 54 shots to their 41, the difference is their 14 points at the line.

Both teams shooting about 41%

Three point shooting isn’t our game. Vic is going to rip them for not going inside. Faye, Gaston, Jones - no reason not to be pounding it

I continue to be amazed at how tech reacts when they beat us. Not the horns down, that’s expected. The hugging and emotion, that I’d expect from a team that just won a regional. Not a home (this time) conference game in January.

Bc they care more than we do. Even though they insist it’s a two sided rivalry

Vic got out-coached on this one. Gerlich's game plan worked from the get-go and Vic never changed anything. Not just a player effort thing. The game had the same flow and pattern from the beginning to end no matter who was on the floor.  Spent way too much time trying to get it into the bigs inside only to turn it over or miss, run down the court and foul someone going to the cup. Free throws and repeat.

22 points at the line to 2 is pathetic. We have way more talent than they do but were ineffective.

Vic should have tried a zone to shake it up – change the tenor of the game. Try something, because what we were doing wasn't working.

Have we ever seen Vic run zone for extended periods?

Our problem isn't simple, but our newbies (Jones, Faye, Morris, Gonzalez, Muhammad) have fouling problems.  Players take a long time to adjust to Vic's style, and that can cause growing pains as they learn to play defense without fouling.

Rori's constant 5-14, 3-12, etc. shooting nights aren't going to cut it.  Girl needs to find her shot.

We also haven't been a good road team.  We struggled to pull away in FW, we lost in Stillwater, we lost in Lubbock.

Vic:
“For whatever reason we didn’t have an answer and a lot of it had to do with what’s inside the breastplate. I think it’s real clear to me. We didn’t have it tonight and we got what we deserved.”
Gave credit multiple times to Texas Tech players – focused and played hard.

They asked about Harmon's assists and Vic said that’s great but she and Shaylee went 10 for 32 for the two guard spots.
Said he thought the stats might be a little off – especially in the turnovers. Thought Sonya was credited for some of Rori’s TOs which seems right.

“Not one of our kids can walk out of the room and say I played really well tonight.”
“We just made so many mental mistakes defensively we absolutely were not the same team we had been. We had this same game at Oklahoma State.”
“We had 6 new players out of ten and chemistry is always a challenge”
“We guarded our men’s practice team a lot better than we guarded Tech”
“We didn’t seem to have the focus tonight, De got in foul trouble early because she was having to bail out guards getting driven on. But to me it comes down to energy and effort, Tech had a lot more energy.
Tech played harder and tougher That’s nobody’s fault but my own.”
“I’m not pleased with our lack of toughness tonight”

Sonya did tweak her ankle.

“Tech defensively inside gave our players fits. We could really get anything done down there tonight.”
Said the 30 to 6 free throw disparity spoke volumes to tech aggressiveness and our lack of aggressiveness. Said he didn’t think I’ve ever been in a game before that was like that (30 to 6)  but it was their aggressiveness.

So, he thought it was all on the team’s effort and toughness. Nothing about X’s and O’s.

Nice to be able to hear the questions from the press. I guess Tech has more money for interview equipment. (sarcasm)

10% from three, 1 for 10.

Hit a decent amount of those and we'd be fine.

Not our game. We are too streaky, it’s basically if Morris hits them or Shaylee gets hot (she was a low % 3 PT shooter when we recruited her)
