The other issue against Florida was that we had a center and LG who were just physically out-matched, with the LG also just being a terrible football player in general. Brooks is at least not physically out-matched, even if he's still trying to get better at the mental part of the game. That's why it was so frustrating they just threw him out there in the middle of the swamp without any previous game time. I think if they make this change in the Sam Houston game, we probably win in the Swamp.

Ding ding ding. Throwing Brooks out there in the middle of the game without any install practice was crazy, but obviously still better than Stroh. There was always a chance that as long as Brooks has some capability to learn and apply himself, that he would look much better against OU. Aside from learning the plays and calls and such over game week, just talking to Hutson and Goosby and getting their help in preparing and knowing what to do was going to make a huge difference. He definitely wasn't perfect against OU, but I agree, if he started against Sam Houston, he probably looks much better against Florida and helps to give us a chance.

I still don't understand how the OL that looked like utter dogshit against Florida held up much better against OU's (better) front 7.

Brook got better as the game wore on...that first drive or so compared the 2nd half was night and day.

Obviously just a guess but I think when you look at the Florida game in total you have to put it on Sarkisian.

Coming off a 3 week stretch against lesser opponents, offense looks uninspired along with the Stroh decision, defense plays its worst game in years, etc. That game just screams terrible preparation and mental approach and that's on the head coach.

The Florida debacle was a team loss in every sense. Offense, defense, special teams mentally and physically unprepared. Total coaching staff failure with horrible game planning as well.

Hopefully that disaster was the wake up call and they stay locked in the rest of the year.

The 20 yd per pass attempt vs Florida was killer as well. Was only like 6 yds per pass attempt vs OU

Bad OL blocking (Stroh especially) + deep ball mania + D not getting off bus in 1st half led to that Florida L.

I believe Wisner finished with 94 yards after contact and 94 yards in total yards, so a lot of the yardage was on individual effort. The biggest difference was Sark stuck with the run vs OU. He didnt really get going until the 37 yarder on carry 8 or 9. Wisner only had 8 carries vs Florida.  Tip your cap to the defense for allowing that to happen. I think it has been mentioned by several that Brent's scheme is susceptible to OZ. The OL gave up 25 pressures also, which was on par with the Florida game if you adjust for drop backs. Pass pro was still very leaky. Sark adjusted the game plan vs OU. Much less max protect and shortened the routes. That helped get the ball out faster. He coached more Saban/Kirby like in this game. Very conservative early, especially when the offense was behind the chains. Felt like the 1st 2 drives the offense was practicing their screen plays. One positive was the lack of OL penalties after the fiorst 2 drives.

Reminded me of games earlier in Sarks tenure and at other stops where he’d inexplicably lose a game he shouldn’t.

Hutson is still not very good and Stroh was a disaster.  2 of 5 makes it pretty easy for a DC to attack, especially the run game, but I also think Florida DC did a bunch of of false pressure that confused even the other 3.  Brooks got a full week of work at LG and it was clear we learned some stuff on how to handle assignments.

We also as has been said didn't task the OL with protecting for 5 seconds on 70% of the pass plays so Arch could go deep.  It was a bad game plan which was multiplied by asking a couple of guys to do stuff they can't do. Stoops is in save the job mode so you can bet anything that hasn't been show on tape will be this week.

BV has always struggled against Stretch.  And Wisner is really good at finding and hitting the holes.

As JBJ here said, BV struggles against stretch/WZ/OZ. There are different types of fronts. Florida is a big, physical front that ties up your O-line and doesn't allow blockers to get to the second level. They are gap sound, so they just lean on you and no gaps are available for backs to dance around in. Meanwhile Oklahoma's front gets it done by being athletic and disruptive. Shooting gaps, and causing havoc is what they do. But that favors a backs like Wisner. Wisner will intentionally step into a gap to make defenders commit then bounce to another one. He understands how to sell his intentions and overly aggressive fronts like OUs pay for it.

In the passing game we just got the ball out quicker. Simple as that. We increased the amount of screens we ran and it looked like someone really got in Arch's ear about finding the checkdowns. Long developing routes were still there he just wasn't taking them. Everyone wants to credit Sark as if he really made some big changes when Arch should get the credit for coming into this game determined to not hold the ball. Dude completed  balls for 166 yards. Thats under 8 per catch. To put that in perspective, Quinn Ewers, Mr Dink-and-Dunk, averaged 11.89 per catch last year. Arch is still missing reads. He was just listening to his bio-clock this game.

The only player you can blame inexperience on with the 5 of those who played leading up to Florida is Baker. The issues with Hutson and Stroh have absolutely nothing to do with experience and everything to do with being dog shit.

Watching the Texas offense during the blOU game was eerily similar to watching a jawja offense...

Baker looked like ass at least in the 1st half vs OU as well.  I didn't notice it as much in the 2nd, so maybe he adjusted.  Hopefully, he is a quick learn overall because he's our Obi Wan at guard.

It depends on what you mean by get going. He had a couple of 5 yarders and a 15 yarder called back due to a hold, which was questionable. There were no holes at all against FL, NONE. Ricky coulda been back there and it woulda been like Ricky vs Kansas state in 1998.

While you're correct that's been reported, it's a highly dubious stat. His runs on our first drive of the 3rd quarter:

2nd and 8, Wisner gains 4 yards before being touched, play goes for 7 (first guy takes him down immediately on contact but he was moving and falling forward - ankle tackle)

3rd and 1, Wisner gains 2 yards all before contact

1st and 10 at the 50, Wisner first touched 8 yards downfield, gains 9

2nd and 1, contact after 6, gains 9

1st and 10, contacted at LOS, gains 3

Total: 30 yards, 10 after contact

I stopped there because the stat is obviously BS. The one long run where an OU DL got a hand on him but had no shot at actually making the tackle is doing a lot of lifting there.

I believe Wisner got 9 yards on his first 7 carries vs OU. The run game tends to get better as the game progresses. Sark completely abandoned the run vs Florida. Florida teed off on a 1-dimensional offense. That is a stark contrast to the OU game, where Sark kept running the football.   I did not think anyone would have a disagreement with that, but here we are.

That generally is how it works, but thanks.

Better yes, but maybe 10% better, but not 100%, which is what Texas needed. There were no holes. More running plays might have helped but it's not what Texas needed. There were some good holes in the first few carries vs ou. It was a stark contrast. You said ou was susceptible to the OZ. FL was not, there were no holes and there never would have been big holes if the game lasted all day.

What Texas needed to win that game was for the defense to get stops and they couldn't.
