I’m sure all of these career military people just loved being lectured to by a draft dodger (and of course convicted felon and rapist, etc.)

"You might think these career military men don't like listening to me because I was prevented from serving. I wanted to. I wanted to fight. I tried to join the fight, but they said you can't because of your feet. I told them I could fight, tremendous fight, but they wouldn't let me. We would've won the war if they would've let me do war stuff. People say 'oh he couldn't fight they won't like Trump', but after I spoke a lot of men, big, strong men....some say the strongest....they came up to me with their big, beautiful medals and saluted me. Long salutes. One with tears in his eyes said 'sir, that is the best speech I've ever heard and I respect you more than any man alive. Ever. You're saving America because you have more courage in your bone spurs than any liberal woke DEI trans lover could ever have.' He asked me if he could go to war torn Portland in the name of Trump. I don't know. I might send him to take back Portland for us. And, the farmers, I'm going to help them because Biden killed farmers. So, I'm going to save them. Barron showed me a farm on his computer."

We live in a world where there is no way to tell the difference between his actual words and satire like this.

It's fucking insane.

That snare drummer that Hegseth hit with the axe wasn't just any old schlub.  That was Jeff Prosperie, probably the greatest snare drummer in the last few decades if not longer.  He won the solo competitions at DCI, DCA, and PAS, and did his masters and doctoral work at University of North Texas, where he taught the drumline.  He also taught Phantom Regiment's drumline for years.  Nice choice of targets, Hegseth.  (By the way, Prosperie is suing FOX News over the incident.)

It's pretty fucking insane that a bunch of people collectively decided to burn down the most powerful empire the world has ever known basically because they were bored.

And so much this.

It's not just that we're absolutely taking a wrecking ball to this country in every possible way.  It's that we're doing so for no fucking good reason whatsoever.  It's goddamned collective insanity, and presuming that when it's all over, there is a world left in which books are written, the book on the self-immolation of the United States is going to be one where future readers put it down and say "that can't be true.  That can't be what really happened.  Not a single bit of it makes any sense."

In case anyone didn't know, all of those military band musicians are seriously talented and formally educated musicians.

We were spoiled, I think I am trying to say. As were those on the other side: willing to tear it all down because they had been so thoroughly nourished by the vacuous plenty in which we all lived, a bountiful condition that allowed people to thrive and opine and swagger around like kings and queens while remaining ignorant of their own history.

Yes, one of my HS friends did her masters on French horn at North Texas and made the Army band.  She said the quality of musicianship in those groups is off the charts.
